The Royals - In the Same Figure, Like the King That's Dead - Review

Our episode starts off with Liam running to a montage of everything that has happened to him since Robert’s been back. After his run he goes to apologize to Robert and explains to him that he finally felt like he had found his place in the world, now it’s all been taken away from him.

Rosie has got her official royal hazing from Len this week. Len goes off to meet Sebastian at a Tiger march and in true Eleanor fashion she sneaks off with him (but just as friends). She’s still holding out hope for Jasper and she has good intuitions, because Jasper is making his way back.

Jasper decides to blackmail the reporter into letting him give her another story on the Royal family. He decides to bring in Roberts “killer” into the fold, who explains the story to the reporter, all seems well until he teases that there is something we still don’t know. Maybe like Robert ordered the kill on himself? I wouldn’t put it past him at this point.

Cyrus is up to his old tricks. I’m going to be honest here. Cyrus was a favorite character of mine, besides from Len. He was mischievous, funny, and purely entertaining to watch. At this point they haven’t redeemed him and keep reusing the same old gimmicks. So I wouldn’t mind seeing his character go, he just doesn’t add much to the story anymore. His revelation about committing suicide at the end did break my heart. I just don’t think Cyrus has it in him anymore or at least the writers don’t.

Helena is continuing her romantic affair with Mr. Parker. They even travel to Paris. It seems too good to be true, if you ask me. I really liked her with Spencer, so hopefully they’ll end up together and soon too! Not only did she disappoint me with Spencer, but also with Liam.

After spending the afternoon going public with Kathryn, Robert seems to have a change of heart about being King. He approaches Liam and lets him know that if it’s okay with Helena, then he will step aside and allow Liam to go up against Cyrus at the Privy Council. The boys go to their mother and she says what us viewers were all dreading, “It’s Robert’s time”.

Now I’ve found Liam quite boring and he’s hasn’t been my favorite character, but that was just awful to watch. There were so many ways to approach that, like letting all three men go to the Privy Council. Helena handled this situation so poorly, that it basically diminishes all the progress that she has made as a person in the recent episodes. She will always put being Queen first, over being a mother. Unfortunately in this case she needed to be Liam’s mother first.

Now to Robert, oh don’t think I didn’t forget about him. I could tell from a mile away that this was his way of getting back at Liam for the fight. Realistically if Robert didn’t want to be King, he would let Cyrus keep the crown before allowing Liam to be the Ruling Monnarch. He manipulated the situation in order to finally crush Liam once and for all. He wanted his brother to know his place and he succeeded. It pains me to say this, but the sick and twisted part of me also gets what Robert was doing. Liam was going to keep fighting, whether that be for the crown or for Kathryn, who knows? If Robert told him to stop it would only push him to keep fighting harder. He needed to hear it from someone else, someone like Helena. Was it awful and wrong? YES. Were Robert’s intentions good? NO. Did he really do this so the family would look united? NO! However I do think that this will help Liam to move forward and become even more mature. I don’t think that Robert is going to be King. I don’t think he’s really Simon’s biological son and if he is, I just don’t think he has the mental capacity to do it. He is literally a ticking time bomb, so Liam should take this time to focus on what’s right in front of him, like Willow.

I thought Willow was annoying and a waste of screen time, but she’s really grown on me. She obviously cares so much for Liam and he needs someone to look after him. I hope her words stuck with him this week, because I’m hoping to see these two together by the season finale.

Side Notes:
-Loving Rosie
-Spencer is so cute.
-Hopefully we get some Jaspenor scenes next week.
-Kathryn and her annoying sister can go.
