Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rachel Bloom Co-Wrote a Song for the Crossover

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom has co-written a song for The CW’s upcoming musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl, BuzzFeed News can exclusively reveal!

“As soon as I heard that they were doing a musical crossover, I e-mailed Mark Pedowitz who connected me to Greg and Andrew. I immediately offered them my services,” Bloom told BuzzFeed News in a statement. “As soon as they picked one of my song ideas, I hopped on the phone with my old Robot Chicken boss Tom Root and we brainstormed and, based on that brainstorm, I wrote up the song ‘Superfriends.’ I am so excited to contribute more to the upward trend that is musicals in television and film. Music can be one of the most amazing and efficient forms of storytelling and character development. Also, it was really fun to write a comedy song for two superheroes.”

“Superfriends” will be performed by Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist in “Duet,” The Flash portion of the two-episode crossover, airing March 21 (the musical action kicks off at the end of Supergirl’s March 20 episode).

Darren Criss cast as the Music Meister
Thanks to tsukikomew for the heads up.

Music makes the Glee kids come together again!

In a pitch-perfect piece of casting, Darren Criss will reunite with his former Glee cohorts Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist when he guest-stars in the two-part The Flash/Supergirl musical episode as the Big Bad Music Meister, TVLine has learned exclusively.

“With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss?” exec producer Andrew Kreisberg tells TVLine. “We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”

Crossover Coming in March + Find Out Who's Singing

The vast majority of the action will take place during The Flash‘s March 21 episode, with the musical kicking off at the end of Supergirl‘s March 20 hour, similar to the Invasion crossover.

The Flash hour of the crossover, titled “Duet,” will be directed by Dermott Downs, and will feature musical performances from Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist, Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber (who currently stars on Legends of Tomorrow), Carlos Valdes, Jeremy Jordan, and John Barrowman (the Arrow alum also stars on Legends). Supergirl‘s David Harewood and Chris Wood will also have non-singing guest star appearances.
