Speechless - C-H-O-CHOIR - Review: Best Christmas Ever

Speechless finished its 2016 run with a Christmas themed episode which featured Minnie Driver's Maya in overdrive mode while Ray and JJ competed for a lead singer position in their school choir. Speechless once again tackled some unlikely issues but delivered with a lot of heart in the process.

This week Minnie Driver was taking center stage and delivered an outstanding performance. The situations Maya found herself in, combined with her overreacting and British accent kept me laughing throughout the outing. The set up with Maya in Xmas mode, then losing her van and trying to compensate the lost van and gifts, served as a perfect set up and as said earlier Minnie Driver killed it. Her fight to maintain the Christmas spirit against all odds was truly hilarious as each scene throw another gut punch towards her. The glass finally tipped over when Maya was too late for Dylan's track race and she gave up on Best Christmas ever. We finally enjoyed some good Maya-Dylan scenes the show was missing and which lead to Maya finally cutting herself some slack. The reaction of pure joy on her face when they got the help of the community to buy a new van was just heartwarming.

John Ross Bowie's Jimmy delivered some hilarious moments as well, as he was a great support to Maya's craziness. He is a tremendous comedic actor and has tremendous comedic timing, so all his scenes are so on point and hilarious.

Meanwhile, the boys DiMeos were competing over a Choir lead and JJ had no mercy in taking down a condescending Ray who was caroling of key Christmas tunes all over the half hour. I have to give it to Micah Fowler, his facial expressions were hilarious this week and so on point as he was intentionally working against Ray. Poor Kenneth found himself off in the middle of the brotherly spat but couldn't resist to let his awesome voice free. Eventually, JJ reacted to the kindness the people showed towards their family and decided to let Ray take the lead. It was funny to see Ray crumble to Miss Bloom's handsomeness after all, the boy ain't made of stones.

A special round of applause for special guest star Julianne Hough who played the extremely attractive new choir head Miss Bloom. Her screen presence was captivating and she delivered her scenes like a pro.

Favorite Quote:
Seriously, if a stranger pulled over and asked me to get into the van. I would, he wouldn't have to offer me candy.

Speechless said goodbye to 2016 with the family pining over their new and old van, the family all together as it should be. The show goes on another short break but returns with all new episodes the first week of January. In the meantime feel free to sound off in the comment section and share your thought on this weeks episode.
