Timeless - Space Race - Preview

Timeless “Space Race” was written by Anslem Richardson and was directed by John Terlesky. Richardson may be better known as an actor than a writer, but this is another exciting look at history. This time – as the title tells us – the team travels to infiltrate NASA during the Apollo 11 moon landing – July 20, 1969.

Flynn (Goran Visnjic) doesn’t completely rely on Lucy’s (Abigail Spencer) journal; he also does research. And Anthony (Max Frewer) isn’t happy. In fact, we see a lot more of Flynn in this episode. He is particularly interested in a doodling secretary.

The episode also fills us in on Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) and Anthony’s history. Although Anthony does leave Rufus holding the bag in this episode.

The time period once again hampers Lucy and Rufus. Lucy, however, makes a stand for women’s liberation! Both Rufus and Lucy are completely underwhelmed by a computer. Rufus is overwhelmed by seeing so many of his personal heroes in the flesh. Once again, the show is able to highlight an important historical figure who may not be known by everyone, even those who think they are familiar with NASA history. Rufus is able to tell on of his heroes – Katherine Johnson – just how important she is to him as an inspiration. As an American physicist, space scientist and mathematician, she broke barriers for both women and black Americans.

Wyatt (Matt Lanter) has a slightly different mission than the other two – and more freedom to move around. Kripke fans will really enjoy The X-Files shout out as Wyatt uses Agent Mulder as his cover! Meanwhile, Flynn enjoys some ice cream, and also has an ulterior motive or secondary target for being in 1969. Look for Denise (Sakina Jaffrey) to become more of a team player.

Finally, in no particular order – and no names please! – here are some dialogue teasers:

Man we live weird lives.
You didn’t have a choice. It was self-defense.
Don’t look at me! I’m just the messenger.
What am I becoming?
Surprised to see me?
Greetings? We come in peace.
I like your sketch. You’re very talented.
The eagle has landed.
It means everything. It’s like all my heroes in one room.
The smartest person in the building works in the basement.

Don’t forget to tune in on NBC on Monday at 10/9c!
