MacGyver - Chisel - Review

The time has finally came where Bozer has joined The Phoenix Foundation (after a day of interrogation).

Chisel is probably my least favorite episode so far. I just couldn’t concentrate on the plot because the writing was as good as previous episodes. I liked certain parts such as Mac using physics and Jack calling the terrorist everything but his actual name. The main thing that stood out in this episode was Bozer.

Thornton has to interrogate Bozer as he is now a security threat. The team talk and Riley bring's up the subject that she was a civilian once but Jack tells her she had a specific skill set they needed. It was a nice little foreshadowing of Bozer joining the team. It cuts to later in the day and Thornton gives them their new job; to go pick Janis who is a terrorist, from a Latvian bank. Mac ends up finding Janis who is shooting at him. He makes some sort of explosive out of a spray can. The over talks tells people not to do this at home. I would have thought that they would have said this in an earlier episode, maybe 1 or 2.

They capture Janis however he sent an SOS message to everyone in his phone contact. Mac and team have to think fast before they are swarmed by terrorists so they make a satellite out of Jacks cellphone. I’m still not a fan of the split screen and text when Mac is making his gadgets and hacks.
They end up running to the Embassy. One thing that I loved when they were inside was the continuous shot starting with Riley and ending in another room with Mac and Jack. The also mentioned Cairo again, I wonder if we’ll ever find out what happened?

While all of Janis’ friends are outside shooting at the building, Mac is using his knowledge of physics to estimate how many pieces of paper will stop a bullet, and Riley is looking over Janis who is trying to get into her head to let him free. However, it doesn’t work and she tells him that his friends will kill him because they will think he is a nark.

The marines that are outside are starting to run out of ammo so Mac comes up with an idea to get them back inside without harming them. He asks all the workers (who are civilians) to give him their bulletproof vests, the only thing that might keep them safe. Jack and Mac start taping the vests to a metal door so they can go fetch the marines that are outside.

With the marines safely indoors, Janis voices that he doesn’t want to die and he’ll help. Everyone grabs all the cleaning supplies they can find so Mac can make explosives to throw out of the window. The terrorists back down, however, the team find out that they are waiting for reinforcements to show up. MacGyver is moving from room to room when he stumbles on the embassy lady making a phone call to her loved ones. This makes Mac more determined to keep everyone safe. He makes a plan to move everyone up to 2nd floor and let the terrorists come in. He starts using sugar and other things to make explosive putty. Riley and Jack give Janis a phone to call his friends to tell them to come inside however he goes off script but Riley put him on a delay and cut the call before he could say anything that wasn’t on the script. Mac’s explosion doesn't work and the terrorists are inside. He uses jack’s last bullet to make it work. The floor caves in and the terrorists are trapped on the bottom floor so it is safe for everyone to jump out the 2nd-floor window.

The first two out the window are mac and jack and they let everyone else know to come down after them. They run into 3 terrorists waiting behind a van but Jack comes around the side and knocks them out. All the workers and Phoenix Foundation are out and are safe.

It cuts to Bozer sat playing with paperclips in the office after knowing what was happening. Mac walks in and lets Bozer know the mistake he regrets the most is not telling Bozer what he really was. Bozer is proud because he knew mac could do more than work at a think tank. Mac had a talked with Thornton and they decided to let Bozer come home but he has to work with the foundation in the lab.
It's going to be so interesting next episode to see how Bozer fits in with everyone at The Phoenix Foundation and how his art and science will help them. Are you looking forward to seeing Bozer working with the team?
