Hawaii Five-O - Kanaka Hahai - Review : Danny takes the bus

Hawaii Five-O is back after a month long hiatus I actual almost missed its return.
There is nothing new in this episode except will Chin and Abby’s romance survive her deception. It’s the usual formal get the bad guys with some laughs along the way. Something this shows seems to do so well. The chemistry of the cast and the beautiful settings make it easy to watch television.

Its starts with the usual previously on Five O and then straight into the action where Danny (Scott Caan) seems to be taking up archery to put down the bad guys, other than his usual gun. We are left with a gun versus bow and arrow as we cut back to 6 hours earlier when Danny is spending time with his family. I had to laugh at the dialogue between Grace and Danny. It's true put the phones away and you might actually enjoy the company around you. We are all guilty of it though aren’t we?
Unfortunately, for Danny leaving the phones in the car wasn’t a good idea as seems someone has stolen his car … he really doesn’t have much luck does he.

Elsewhere Abby (Julie Benz), I do love her addition to the show and have been a fan for years, does the symbolic thing of tossing her S.F PD badge in the Ocean. She really didn’t like what she was supposed to do. Her packing to leave is interrupted by McGarret (Alex O’Loughlin) who as we could all guess offers her a job. Seems Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) wants her to stay as well.

Lou (Chi Mcbride) and Kono( Grace Park) investigate two guys washed up on shore but it seems only one is alive and clutching a gun however it isn’t a match to the bullet in the other who died from being in the water too long. Seems the victim was killed by a firing squad in 2009 in prison. The question is how he ended up floating off shore off Hawaii and very much alive until recently.

Danny is waiting for a bus his pride won’t let him call Steve to pick them up. The bus trip will be fun right??

At headquarters, they learn Interpol has him as missing but no criminal record. The other one is supposed to have been executed in a Thai prison. I smell and conspiracy theory and no surprise they get a Jerry Alert.

The floatation device the two guys were hanging on to has come from a ship that was decommissioned in 2005. A ship that doesn’t exist and a victim who has been dead for six years.
Ghost ships well, Jerry seems to think so of course Lou tells him there is no such thing.

We all knew Danny’s Bus ride would not be boring as they drive past an armed robbery who speed off past the bus in you guessed it… Danny’s car! I think Danny thinks he is Keanu Reeves in speed as he commandeers the bus to chase the car. No phone service to call anyone.

McGarrett is trying to frighten Lou with ghost stories while Kono brings up the two guys blood work. Both have mercury poisoning, evidence of diesel fumes and vitamin D deficiency meaning they haven’t been out in the sun. Below decks on a ship fed only fish, McGarret thinks they were slaves.

They get the story from the survivor they were there for 3 years not seeing day light, beaten, worked from dusk till dawn on the fishing ship, which he describes as a floating prison. The other guy was his friend, they figured out ways to escape and that’s how they ended up in the water.
Seems there were 14 others on board so McGarrett and his team aim to track them down.

Meanwhile Danny is still in pursuit of his car and the robbers on a bus. Unfortunately the bus driver follows them down a dirt track and Danny has to evacuate the bus. Danny is on the bus versus the bad guys. He chases them then notices the car abandoned. He waves down a hunter (I guess now we know where he got the bow from) and continues his pursuit with a little help.

Chin has convinced Abby to stay and meets McGarrett at a fish market who is buying it cheaply from the slave ship. Soon they find another lead and convince him to call the ship in as he needs more.

Danny and his hunter tracker have located the robbers and we soon come to the showdown from the beginning and even though Danny hits the target he takes a shot to the arm. The hunter finds landline and called back up and wraps Danny’s arm.

Five-O brings down the captain and the ship in a bit of a navy seal style.

They meet up at their usual spot, Kamekona’s were the bus driver, who I failed to mention earlier is also a friend, has been keeping an eye on Danny’s children. Obviously Steve is giving Danny some grief about what happened.

They bring the family of the survivor to see him in hospital for an emotional reunion. Chin and Abby talk and she is going to stay, telling Chin the reason is him. Yes, they makeup and I for one am glad Chin finally has a little happiness.

So this episode was standard Hawaii Five-O get the bad guys do the right thing at all costs. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before. Danny, as usual, can’t seem to have some down time without getting attacked or shot at which would make you wonder if you would want to go anywhere with him. Bringing Abby into the fold has helped the dynamic of the team and now she has no hidden agenda she can continue on as part of the crew.
