New Girl - Episode 5.12 - Review: "D-Day"

On this week's New Girl, Jess offers Schmidt a helping hand with wedding planning duties "aka Decision-Day" while Cece is entertaining a job offer. The problem is Schmidt is overworked from all of the planning and can't manage to stay awake. "Please do not reach for it like you are Winston reaching for someone's breast." Tux fittings, cake tastings, it's all a little much, but Jess was thrilled to help because she likes to be in charge of these big time events. Meanwhile, Nick and Winston argue over who has the more interesting/difficult job. "I'm a cop, I run a bar."

Jess singing "Genie in a Bottle" was awesome and a great way to get Schmidt to fall asleep so that she could spring into action. You knew from the outset Jess was going to over manage this endeavor, but in the end, she always has the gang's best interest at heart. Little did she know, Schmidt's dad, guest star Peter Gallagher, would show up to help with the wedding planning. Schmidt's reaction was priceless! Meanwhile, Winston tries to juggle the bar duties Nick is responsible for and Nick gets his first taste of what it's like to be a cop. "Welcome to hell, Miller." I also find it ironic given Jake Johnson's "Let's Be Cops."

Jess invites Schmidt's dad, Gavin, out on a date and the group must determine what to do. Schmidt decides to outfit Jess with the GoPro camera to face-time with his father. He is bitter over the way his father left his mother and wasn't around for his childhood. Schmidt recognized Cece as the reason he is such a great man while Gavin apologized for his behavior and wished the two the best of luck. In return, Schmidt decided to invite his father to the wedding. Winston and Nick mutually agree that their feud was idiotic and that each others' jobs are difficult in their own right. Overall, a solid episode if only for a few laughs here and there. I would honestly re-watch that scene of Schmidt overreacting as much as I enjoy him saying "youths!" Reading ahead, new outlets are reporting that Megan Fox will be back as Reagan in the future so that drama with Nick is bound to spring up again.Comment below with your thoughts on the episode and tune into New GirlTuesday's at 8/7 central.
