  • 03:20 - Bastards - HBO Developing Drama Based on the Israeli Series Nevelot
HBO has put in development Bastards, a drama based on the Israeli series Nevelot. The project, from Sony TV, studio-based Happy Madison and Alan Poul’s Boku Films, is being written by playwright Branden Jacobs Jenkins (Appropriate), with Poul attached to direct under his overall deal at HBO.

Described as a thriller with dark comedic overtones, Bastards follows two elderly Vietnam vets in contemporary Miami, whose resentment of today’s entitled youth causes a small act of self-defense to snowball into something much bigger. Jenkins, Poul and Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson executive produce, along with Mirit Toovi, Yoran Mokady and Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein.

  • 03:20 - Soul Patrol - CBS Developing Police Drama
CBS is developing “Soul Patrol,” a police drama hailing from mega-producer Aaron Kaplan, Alexandra Lydon and Niels Mueller who will pen the script, Variety has learned exclusively.

Kaplan, Lydon and Mueller will all exec produce the potential series from CBS Television Studios.

“Soul Patrol” revolves around a unique, highly effective task force comprised entirely of African-American police officers, which was assembled in the early 1970s by the Boston Police Commissioner to more effectively prevent and solve crimes in previously neglected areas of the city.

Before “Soul Patrol” landed at CBS this development cycle, Kaplan and Lydon had worked together on another Boston-based police project, “Broad Squad,” which ABC ordered to pilot last cycle, in contention for the 2015-16 television season. Though both are inspired by true stories and strike similarities, “Soul Patrol” is a new project with different auspices attached. Lydon had brought “Broad Squad” to Kaplan last pilot season, and this year, she came back to the “Secrets & Lies” exec producer with “Soul Patrol,” which goes back to Boston in the ’70s.
