Limitless - The Legend of Marcos Ramos - Review: "Joyous and Tearful"

It's a shame not more people are watching this show. The writing is so witty and light-hearted. It's bordering on a dramedy, which is amazing or a show where the main character periodically takes a drug. I cannot recommend this show enough. I cannot wait to watch it, and review it, week after week. But this can only happen if you watch it!

My favourite part of last week's episode opens this week's. Brian Finch's father's new doctor is the same doctor who has been giving Brian the shots that allow him to take unlimited amounts of NZT. The FBI is now letting Brian go into the field, and thank you for giving us shirtless scenes of Brian. Props to Jake McDorman for that. Anyway, another one of my favourite parts about this show is the annotations and animations they show on screen whenever Brian is on NZT. For example, when Brian is going on the Subway, he passes by someone playing a cello. A bunch of math equations appear on screen, and it just looks really cool to me. I would honestly love to be inside of Brian's head. While he's down there, he runs into an ex-girlfriend named Shauna. He impresses her by speaking mandarin to passengers on the bus. That was great. And now, I'm going to use another review to talk about how much I like the theme song of this show yet again. It's so vibrant, and the electro tune is catchy.

The case of the week was really solid too. It dealt with a former FBI agent, which tied into the show nicely. Once again, the procedural format of this show does not bother me. The writing is always witty and fun, and the cases continue to be interesting for me. This was no different. There was a really funny montage where Brian is sorting through shredded paper with Mike and Ike (the people in charge of him), and he almost lost his phone among the piles of paper. On screen animations of texting with his ex appear, and Brian apparently likes using emojis. Brian sets up a date with his ex, and Mike and Ike are there to remind him about how NZT only lasts 12 hours. They bring up a good point - if he is so quick to impress everyone new in his life with his abilities while on the drug, and they are only temporary, will these people enjoy him as much when he's just a "regular guy" again? I hope the show delves into these questions more.

The guest stars on this show are also really good. They each bring something new to the table, and they don't even have to be there for long. I imagine everyone is looking forward to seeing Bradley Cooper revise his role as Eddie Morra again soon. For now, I'm not missing him too much though. I will say that the scene where Brian is trying to swat a fly on the table gave me "war flashbacks" to an episode of Breaking Bad. Also, the fact that the oil company of the episode is nicknamed the "IDK Company" just made me laugh. Mike telling Brian that, "They warned me you'd try to get in my head", was also very funny. "You think this is a good detail? Babysitting you? You think that's why I went to Quantico?" I think it would be so amazing if people actually went to Quantico for babysitting people who have to take performance-enhancing drugs. I'd like to see a show about that.

Anyway, I could go on and on about the specific jokes and references in this episode, and every episode for the rest of the season. But honestly, it would just benefit you more to watch the episode for yourselves. Each episode has been different than the last, and each with its own unique writing and case. This was yet another great episode of a great show. Brian's moments with Shauna were really sweet, and his moments with Mike, as well as his field work, were funny. And both of these types of scenes contrasted well with each other. Moreover, his friendship with Rebecca continues to grow even stronger. I love these two characters together, as well as by themselves. That's when you know you've written a great show.
