  • 01:10 - Paramount And Nickelodeon Are Developing A Massive Animated Film Crossover For All Their '90s Nicktoons Series
Paramount is developing a live-action/animation hybrid based on the classic cartoons

Now more than ever, the intense wave of 1990s nostalgia is at its height, with a slew of upcoming TV shows and movies planned to capitalize on the collective desire for a return of these cherished properties. Just this week even, Nickelodeon announced a plan to reboot ’90s favorites in a fresh new way.

Well, it’s time for millennials to rejoice, because the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon series of the ’90s are making a return in the biggest way possible. Sources exclusively confirm to The Tracking Board that Paramount Pictures is in the early stages of developing a massive live-action/animated crossover film featuring characters from hit ’90s Nick cartoons. Rugrats, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, and more are coming together for what’s being pitched as a Justice League or Avenger’s-esque team-up film called NICKTOONS.

  • 00:00 - Family Guy - Season 14 - Ashton Kutcher, John Mellencamp, Ed O’Neill and More to Guest
Family Guy will continue to add to its list of impressive guest stars in season 14. EW can exclusively reveal that Ashton Kutcher, John Mellencamp, and Ed O’Neill will all appear on the next installment of the animated series.

Kutcher — who is married to Mila Kunis, a.k.a. Meg Griffin — will guest-star as himself in a live-action short. “We wrote him some of the most ridiculous dialogue,” executive producer Steve Callaghan tells EW. “He just couldn’t have been a nicer guy or a better sport about it.”

Mellencamp will also play an animated version of himself and perform an original song in the season premiere. As for Modern Family’s O’Neill, he’ll voice Joe Swanson’s dad who comes to Quahog for an episode. “[O’Neill]’s a lot of fun to work with and that turned out to be a great episode,” Callaghan says. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we come back to him, too.”

Margaret Cho, Kyle Chandler, Kathryn Hahn, Jeff Garlin and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will also voice characters on the next season of Seth MacFarlane’s hit animated series.

Family Guy premieres Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

TVLINE | The Season 2 renewal took a while. Were you nervous? Did you think the show might not come back?

Yeah, I was a little nervous just because our ratings weren’t spectacular. But at the same time, I knew they believed in the show, and I, certainly, was incredibly proud. And there was a weird part of me that, if we had not done another season, would have been OK with it because I think we made a really, really strong season. If it only existed as a little 10-episode miniseries in history, I would have been not fine with it, but somehow a little bit OK with it.

  • 00:00 - Nickelodeon Mulls Return of Classic Shows Like Rugrats And Hey Arnold
Before SpongeBob SquarePants, before Dora the Explorer, before “iCarly,” there was still Nickelodeon.

“We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way,” Russell Hicks, president of content and development at Nickelodeon, told Variety.

Under the plan, the network might seek to experiment with retooled versions of classics that could include “Rugrats,” “Hey Arnold!” “You Can’t Do That on Television” or “Victorious.” The shows might not come back as series, but could appear in other formats, like a movie or special. And they likely would not constitute the bulk of the network’s development efforts.
