I’ve learned that True Blood alum Riley Smith has landed the last series regular role in Fox’s drama pilot Urban Cowboy, a modern reimagining of the 1980 country music-fueled Paramount feature starring John Travolta and Debra Winger.

Smith will play bad boy Wes, the handsome head of Gilley’s security who is helping run drugs through the honky tonk while looking to become a rodeo star. He convinces Kyle to train him and makes a move on Gaby.

  • 00:00 - Eva Longoria Producing Texas Ranger Comedy For NBC
Eva Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment has sold its first series project under the rich three-year TV and filmproduction deal the company inked in January in conjunction with NBC’s straight-to-series order to UnbeliEVAble’s comedy Hot and Bothered starring Longoria. The new project — a comedy penned by Hot and Botheredwriter-producer Rob Sudduth — has landed at NBC where UnbelEVAble has multiple pilot commitments as well as a series penalty on the TV side.

Set against the world of Texas Rangers, the comedy follows train wreck Texas Ranger “Cathy Cruz,” who after inadvertently catching a serial killer, is recruited by the rough-and-tumble Texas Rangers. Cruz butts heads with her straight-laced macho partner at work as well as her judgmental Mexican family at home, and the biggest question that remains is: which world does she fit into less? Longoria is executive producing with her UnbelEVAble partner Ben Spector.

The comedy, which has landed a script commitment, will be written and exec produced by Kat Coiro (And While We Were Here) with Julie Anne Robinson also attached to exec produce. • 00:00 - Warrior - Martial Arts Drama To Be Redeveloped By Fox
Warrior is back in the ring. The martial arts drama from Traveler creator David DiGilio and Parkes/MacDonald is returning to pilot contention, this time at Fox. The network has ordered a new script for the project, originally developed and piloted by NBC last season. It centers on a broken woman who works undercover – with physical and spiritual guidance from a mysterious martial arts master – to bring down an international crime lord.

Warrior, produced by Universal TV, was the first project to receive a pilot order this past broadcast pilot season. The pilot, directed by Phillip Noyce was in contention for a series pickup at NBC but missed the cut. However, it remained a favorite of Universal TV brass who made it a priority after the upfronts to try and find a new home for the show. The pilot was shopped and garnered serious interest from Fox but the network ultimately decided to start anew with a wholly original script.

  • 00:00 - Code Black - Shiri Appleby to Guest
Shiri Appleby is set to appear in “Code Black,” Variety has learned exclusively. Though she is expected to have an arc in the CBS medical drama this season, she is currently signed on to guest star in one episode.

Appleby, who also stars in Lifetime’s “UnReal,” will play Dr. Carla Niven, the ex-girlfriend of first-year resident Dr. Malaya Pineda (Melanie Chandra), who comes back into her life unexpectedly when she shows up to the hospital, this time, as a patient.

Dr. Niven is described as a hard charging, type-A ER doctor from another area hospital who trained at Code Black’s Angels Memorial, which is where her romance began with Dr. Pineda who was then a medical student. Now an ER resident at Angels, Dr. Pineda treats Dr. Niven, who is pregnant and shows up to the hospital for treatment for muscle pain that turns out to be a form of cancer. (In real life, Appleby is expecting her second child.)

  • 00:00 - MOVIES: Pacific Rim 2 - Rumor - Production Delayed
Fans looking forward to returning to the world of Kaijus and giant robots will have to wait. Multiple sources are telling me that Guillermo del Toro's sequel to "Pacific Rim" is getting a delay.

Originally slated to shoot in Toronto in November of this year, we're now being told that the production for "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" has been delayed until 2016--what month specifically, we don't know. The reason for the delay is also unknown at this time, but there's a good chance this will negatively affect the release date, which is currently set for August 4, 2017.

I have reached out to Legendary Pictures for a comment and they were not allowed to speak about it at the moment.

  • 00:00 - The 100 - Behind The Scenes Interview with Aaron Ginsburg
Thanks to miracle2012 for the heads up.

Have you changed scripts and premises based on fan reaction?

No. We never change scripts based on fan reaction. We love our fans — they are the most passionate and dedicated group I’ve ever encountered. That said, we are often writing so far in advance, the story is already figured out before any of the episodes air. We hope that our fans trust us to give them the most powerful and emotional and exciting season each year.

Main character Clarke is bisexual and it isn’t a big deal. At what point was this discussed with actress Eliza Taylor or did she find out the same time everyone else did when she read the script?

It was discussed beforehand. Eliza is amazing. In The 100, we are really striving to create a brave new world where sexual orientation and nationality (skin color, ethnic background, et al) are no longer hot-button issues. The nuclear holocaust changed the world and the survivors are all just humans trying to make it through another day. You are who you are, you love who you love. No judgements. It’s too dangerous of a world out there to worry about things like this.

What about Lexa, played by Alycia Debnam-Carey? Was her sexuality already defined when the casting call went out? Did Alycia go into this already knowing her character liked women?

We had discussed Lexa’s sexuality early — though it wasn’t listed as part of her audition/character breakdown… because, again, it is not really important. Her sexuality does not define her — she is far more than that. In our minds, Lexa is this epic leader, this forward thinker, and this passionate (but calculating) warrior.

Do you aim to please the fans or the fans have no affect on the storyline? Example: How are you going to please both the Clexa fans and Bellarke fans?

Again, we love our fans. We do. And we absolutely feel the same chemistry between certain pairs of actors. That’s real — if you feel it, we feel it, too. But that said, we have a story we want to tell with these characters. And we spend hours and hours and hours every week debating and discussing and brainstorming to find the most incredible way to tell our story. We don’t make decisions based on what fans might want (or don’t want) (or think they want). We make decisions on what is best for the story… On what the characters would really do when faced with these situations. It should be noted, that we love our characters (and the actors who bring these roles to life), and if our fans go along for the ride, I assure you, they will not be disappointed.
