Proof - Tsunami: Part One - Review

With this being the second to last episode of season 1 and the uncertainty of season 2, I had big expectations. Did this episode, titled Tsunami Part One exceed those expectations or fall flat? Well, to me it was a decent episode. There were a few concepts that I liked about it but there was some character development that was flat-out disappointing.
First off, I loved this idea that Carolyn could be living in both worlds, the afterlife and the real world. It’s a great plot twist and it’s certainly not one I expected. I’m actually tempted to go back and re-watch the previous episodes to see if there’s any foreshadowing of this. I do recall there being moments that seemed like Carolyn was either dreaming or hallucinating but it never led me to think she was stuck in both worlds. I’m hoping that with the title of this episode being tsunami that that means we will get to see what really happened when Carolyn experienced her NDE. I’ve mentioned before this show has always given me the feeling that I’ve started watching the series a season in already. It would be great if the writers would fill in the blanks and give us some more back story.

I really enjoy watching the scenes with Zed but in this episode his character development was less then desirable. I always got the impression that he had only agreed to marry that woman in order for her father to pay for medical school. When she came to see him I didn’t expect him get back together with her. Hopefully, that will be resolved soon as I find that storyline not overly interesting and would prefer to watch the dynamic between him and Janel unfold. As much as I didn’t care for that aspect of the episode I was disappointed even more that Carolyn and Len slept together. I don’t mind Len as a supporting character but as soon as we got the back story of him being the cheating ex-hubby I wrote him off. No body roots for that guy! Not to mention the fact that I don't see any chemistry between Len and Carolyn. I’m hoping that was a one time thing and won't go any further. I have my doubts about that as there was some teasing of their relationship in many of the previous episodes. I was just hoping that if I ignored it, it wouldn’t happen.

One of my favourite characters in the show might be in trouble. We see Ivan’s health take a turn for the worse and he’s going to require emergency surgery. With the next episode being the season finale it wouldn’t be a shock if Ivan didn’t make it though I really hope that doesn’t happen. His humour and charismatic charm would be missed. With Ivan pushing the limits and wanting to know what’s waiting for him when he dies, do you think he will get any answers before his surgery?

Tsunami Part one was a solid episode. It certainly led me to believe there was going to be a dramatic ending but they left it as a cliffhanger. With Ivan’s life on the line and Carolyn possibly living in both the real world and the afterlife, I’m hoping that this build up means we won’t be disappointed in the finale. What did you think about this episode?
