ABC Developing 2 Comedies with Script Commitments about a Divorced Gay Couple & A Mother with Terminal Cancer

Kenny Schwartz and Rick Wiener are developing two comedy series for ABC, both of which landed script commitments plus penalties, Variety has learned exclusively.

One of the series, inspired by Schwartz’s real-life story, revolves around a gay couple that gets divorced with both men remarrying and raising their budding teenage daughters together, despite the pitfalls of their different families.

The other is about a woman who burns all of her bridges when she finds out she has terminal cancer, only to learn that she’s actually in remission, forcing her to turn to her family and move in with her estranged sister and kids.

The developments mark a reunion of sorts between the network and the writer/producers, as they were co-exec producers on the first season of ABC’s musical parody series “Galavant,” which scored a second season renewal.
