  1. Jensen comforting a crying fan has already made this day great. It's a great picture. Bless her heart, I'd cry too.

  2. They have a ridiculous amount of fun together. It's so fun to watch.

  3. @TheGeekiary

Carver says they will go back to being "about the brothers." #SDCC #Supernatural

Doesn't he always say that? When he was promoting season 10, he said the brothers were in a good place.

They have cheapened the whole "Supernatural is about the two brothers" thing. It feels like "the brothers are back to being brothers" is just a line they re-use because it's the easiest way to keep stringing fans along.

  4. I'm already in love with this panel but then they said the brothers would be united again against the "big bad" next season. Don't f' it up Carver. I hope someone asks what the theme of episode 4 is going to be.

  5. Man, I like these guys for being so humorous and goofy.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This entire cast & crew is awesome.Only if the same thing could be said about their writing.Sigh!

    ReplyDelete
  7. GOD I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!They are amazing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ya,her death was truly horrible and i say this as someone who hated her.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Claire will be back again? Damnit!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm hoping for all of them too and for Henriksen. I'd actually love both versions of Meg back.
I know I hated Crowley being neutered for that witch.

    ReplyDelete
  11. SPN -TVD crossover-Hell yes.I would love to see that!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hiding in a bathroom was kinda natural at that point, more of a instinct move.

Yes, I think you are right. Yet the audience would have felt better if she had gone down swinging. Maybe Charlie getting killed off hit the audience so hard because of the way her body was discarded and left to be found by Sam and Dean. Like she had been helpless, defenseless and scared at the moment of her death.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yep.Whatever happened,happened off-screen.That sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I want brunette Meg, not blonde Meg, i liked her better. But i didn't hate blonde Meg. I don't want Henriksen back at all. lol But that would be cool, i won't lie.

Crowley was embarrassing!!! It was pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I want that picture!! Stephen should be in there too! That would've been perfection!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Is Andrew Dabb going to have a bigger role on the show now that Adam Glass, who was the most senior writer, is gone?

I have really liked some of Dabb's episodes but unfortunately he is a hit or miss as a writer.

    @TheGeekiary
Dabb says "ask me something about Angels" #SDCC #Supernatural

No thanks. Do they keep the angels around only because of Castiel? They made the angels so boring in recent seasons. Castiel is supposed to be the "rebel angel". That says a lot about the rest of them. *Yawn* Who thought making all of angels bureaucrats was a good idea? The only standout angel character in recent times was Gadreel and even he didn't get much good material except at the beginning and at the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I didn't even know Adam Glass was gone. Why couldn't it have been all of the comic book writing fanboys and Jeremy? Ugh/

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hasnt Samuel Campbell been seen on set recently? The only other character we are likely to see is Bobby as his fate at the end of last season was still up in the air.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Honestly I can take or leave her but I think the way she was killed off, so predictably and cheaply just to further Dean's arc and pile more crap on Sam was imo a real pathetic move.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hasnt Samuel Campbell been seen on set recently?

Yes, but maybe the actor is shooting The X-Files so he just wanted to say hello to the boys?

  21. I didn't see any pics, so idk.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Dabb has been writing for SPN since season 4. Glass started writing in season 6.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Completely agree, terrible storyline. But understandably, most fans here would cheer about everything. If I had a chance to go to sdcc I'd probably cheer for that crap too lol.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, but Adam Glass was Executive Producer on the show and Andrew Dabb was Co-Executive Producer.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lmao. You have a point, but I wouldn't! They like brutal honesty from the fans. I'd be myself 100% and tell them that they made Crowley into a pansy ass mama's boy then when the crowd cheers ME on, I'll yell...I LOVE YOU ALL! Then the panel will laugh. = p

    ReplyDelete
  26. What's the difference between the two ?

I've always felt like Dabb had more of an influence considering the material he was given.

He always writes several pivotal episodes in the season, whereas Glass wrote mostly standalones episodes. He was given the task to write the spin-off too. Even if it was a failure, it was a big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They actually got another writer her name

    Nancy Won.

    ReplyDelete
  28. What's the difference between the two ?

I don't think they have divulged that information regarding this show but the first page of a scrip gives you an idea of the hierarchy:

  29. SUPERNATURAL's CAST is always SUPER, ....... but JENSEN is the best man, actor, director ever !!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. ah thanks for clearing that up. I still think that Bobby will be back this season, he at least makes sense. Grampa Campbell would have been a real stretch. I dont think I really want anyone else back, I'd rather they concentrate on writing the current characters better than using cheap gimmicks like bringing back long dead ones.

    ReplyDelete
  31. SUPERNATURAL's CAST is always SUPER,..... but JARED is the best man, actor, friend and awesomest awesome person ever!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. SUPERNATURAL'S CAST is always SUPER...but the Winchesters together are always the foundation, heart, and awesomest awesome reason to watch the show period. Happy to hear they will be fighting evil together this season instead of fighting each other.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I know!!! the two brothers are both awesome, spectacular, amazing and magnificent... and also Misha is so but .......JENSEN is JENSEN!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Signing on to the booting Jeremy plan, although I wouldn't mind if they took most of the writers with him. Let's start anew.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes, I wonder what she is going to be like... In my opinion, even before Glass' departure they needed to hire someone new who connects with Sam. I don't think there was a single writer who felt that way about Sam in the writer's room. They all preferred to write for Dean or side characters. Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner seem to be relatively neutral because they tend to be more focused on carrying the mytharc forward but they aren't exactly praised for their writing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah,i agree. This show really needs a new set of writers & Someone other than Jeremy carver as the showrunner.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I totally agree !!! I love this show, most of all when Dean, Sam and Castiel work together!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I like Jared more as a person and Jesen more as an actor.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yep,i'm really tired of all these angst & constant fighting.Enough is enough.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hah, that could be an explosive statement in some circles :D

    ReplyDelete
  41. Me too and it seems like they're as happy about it as we are.
SN- How awesome is Mark Shepard? I honestly think he's having the time of his life on this set and with these guys. I love to hear him laugh so much.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just read he's on CM:Beyond Borders. I wish he had taken Jeremy with him.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Have you seen these fun videos of the Js ribbing on Mitch? :D

  44. Well,i've always felt this way from the very beginning and that never changed.Although my favorite is and always will be Misha(Both the person & actor is just awesome to say the least).

    ReplyDelete
  45. absolutely predictably, pathetic and unnecessary, they should have left her in Oz... then she would have been forgotten by the fans like they had forgotten, Ellen, Jo, Ash etc.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He's just amazing.Such a fantastic actor!

    ReplyDelete
  47. That would be my solution for her character too. There was no need to bring her back in the first place only to kill her for good brutally. That's just cruel.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I’m sorry!!! This is not a fight !!! Each of us could write a poem about this show, these characters and these actors and all the cast, because we all love them. They are a good start for ours days and I’m sure they make us very, very happy!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I meant fighting between the brothers.LOL!@ Of course we all love them :D

    ReplyDelete
  50. Guess that means CM:BB is out for me. Ditto on Jeremy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm so done with contrived drama so I love the idea of going back to a brothers on a mission plan like in season 1.

Mark Sheppard is my celebrity crush. I just adore the man in everything he does. I am so happy that he became Crowley because I cannot imagine anyone else playing that character. MS is such a part of the team too. He's a perfect fit. I need more Crowley in my life, a lot more, but at some point someone needs to give this man his own show.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Carver IS the big bad! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree. I think Sam character been a victim over the years so much of letting things happen to him, but they don't know how to write him when it's not. At times he kinda just there floating around.

I just hope the new writer is good at characterization and pacing her episodes. I don't expect her to be perfect cause this is 10 years worth of history, but I hope she is a improvement for the staff.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Don't read any spoilers on here. Shame.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I hope someone asks what the theme of episode 4 is going to be.

Jared says episode 4 is called "Baby" and it's all about the Impala! The concept sounds super cool to me because I think it takes some extra creativity to have an TV episode, a play or whatever that takes place in just one "room".

    https://youtu.be/dR6Oebo1E00?t=265

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sam's visions are going to come back in some way?!?

    https://youtu.be/dR6Oebo1E00?t=100

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like that they seem to be going back to basics by having Sam as someone who has a mysterious connection to the supernatural like in season 1 when he had premonitions. I like to think that Sam is "sensitive" i.e. inclined to draw supernatural activity to himself unwittingly (even without the demon blood's influence).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Imo it wasn't cruel, it was very dumb and poor writing. I mean she was portrait as an awesome smart fighter. She was a hacker, larper, fought the Witch-Wars(!) in Oz, was Laura Craft for the poor etc. and then she gets fussy about plain ol' witch? Further 'ignores' that a necromancer-bad ass troop is after her that wants to kill her... and then she hides in the bathtub? No wonder Carver couldn't answer... but he did the same with Sam. During the Kripke era, Sam was portrait as a brilliant tactician, fighter, computer wizard, a smart ass, and now... he misses every fight 'cause thrown around, choked and unconscious, now too stupid that Kevin & Charlie had to jump in to do the 'intelligent' work, a depressing wall paper to make Dean appear like Rambo, Hulk and Terminator in one. Carver has a lot to explain, too bad that imo all those present at the Con didn't aske the right questions.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Compared to season 9, the brothers were in a better place in season 10.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Not necessarily; 1. Charlie had been of on her own for however long between "The Prisoner" and "Book of the Damned" without incident. 2. We learned that the Styne that was supposed to look for her was shirking his duties. 3. She went out of the way to use an assumed name at the motel when checking in. 4. She knew the Styne's were previously tracking the BotD and not her.

So really she had no reason to think she was in any danger going to a motel to be alone.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think it's assumed she did go down swinging, I mean she was standing ready with the knife. And if I recall right, the choice no to show the fight was from the director wanting the reaction from Sam and Dean, or some such.

    ReplyDelete
  62. All those characters died though. Ash off screen even.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You just listed everything that was wrong with the character. She was a Mary Sue, for the one writer that always wrote her. So when other writers wrote her, and wrote her like a normal person not "everyone loves me and tells me how special I am/great at everything" it comes off as kinda OOC.

Also to reiterate. 1.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I don't feel that way at all, sorry. No one else is at fault here other than her as far as i'm concerned. She could've stayed where Sam was keeping her for the moment. That "Me" time cost her life.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Actually Dabb has about 2 seasons on Glass, he started writing with Daniel Loflin in season 4.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ross-Leming and Buckner are actually pretty great at writing Crowley, I think they nail that character's voice the best.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I mean yeah, it was her choice and she paid the price for it. But what I'm saying is that, for the character, given the facts her choice wasn't dumb as people are saying. She had no reason to think she was in any real danger.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think that's how some of the "fan favorites" will be returning. Helping Sam through his visions.

    ReplyDelete
  69. All i can say here is-She should've known better. In my eyes,it will always a dumb & hasty move without any thought. So we'll agree to disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Now I would have worded my comments differently because initially I had only seen little flashbacks of the situation in episode 22 The Prisoner. However, if Charlie had died because of the Wicked Witch in 9.04 Slumber Party, I don't think the outcry over her death would have been nearly as bad. She would have gone in the middle of a fight. I think people feel so bad about her death because she was alone and pretty helpless/defenseless at that point as the unceremonious way her body was disposed indicates as well as her numerous wounds.

    ReplyDelete
  71. But when he was promoting season 9, Carver went with "the brother chose each other" angle and everyone knows how that season turned out for the brothers. His talk has been cheap. That's why the actors are talking about the brothers being finally united.

    ReplyDelete
  72. hmmm then tell me why she was running away from the Styns when she stole the book from them, I mean she travelled to Russia or Europe to get that book, and since then was chased, further the Stynes then not only chased her but also the bothers... so now tell me by your logic why should she have thought that the danger is over and let her guard down, when translating the 'book'. The book the Styns were looking for... ya see makes no sense. She knew as long as the book existed the Styns would be searching for it, and she found out that book was still there...and not burned... further just because she had the context in her i-pad doesn't change the facts... she knew to much and had to be eliminated... did you forget that the Styns just killed a man just because he 'saw' something he wasn't supposed to see.
Further do you really think that when she was travelling over Europe to the USA she wasn't using any false names? And they still managed to follow her... further her false name 'Carrie Asimov' seriously? Never heard of Isaak Asimov? Yeah what a great disguise...
Sorry to say at 10x22 'The Prisoner' she was already dead.... you mean 10x21 'Dark Dynasty'... well if you had listened very carefully then you would have heard that the Styns not only harvest bodies but also gather information, therefor can be seen as high occult 'intelligence agency'... hence she was being searched by the Stynes, therefor she was never safe, remember "I know where she is..." this tells us viewers that the Styns were always after here. If there would have been no interest in her, then why should they look for her... she knew from the moment she meet the Winchester her life wouldn't be the lollypop, larpy gaga world, she knew with what she was dealing with... All in all BAD WRITING... she was a nerd, but not stupid... btw I didn't like Charlie, but worse then Charlie was the bad writing...

    ReplyDelete
  73. If this is what it sounds like - a character story that is emotional/intellectual in nature, revisits his history, and doesn't involve him being knocked unconscious - then I would be thrilled.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I was thinking this year's CC seemed a little spoiler-lite too.

    ReplyDelete
  75. yeah and?? What are you trying to say? When Ellen and Jo died their death in a way was heroic, and it made sense. And Ash uhmmm... collateral damage...but Charlie's death was pathetic and made no sense. Even Carver couldn't explain why she had to die the way she died... or lets put it this way, if they needed her death as a turning point for Dean to get furious and deeper into the MoC, they still could have killed her, but in a heroic manner, not like her being a moron.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think that Comic-Con happening so early contributed to it. Last year they were able to show footage of demon Dean from episode 10.03 because Jensen had already finished directing the episode that was shot first.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yes! Sam needs to have more going on than just worrying and scrambling around (season 10). Everyone should have known already that Sam loves his brother very much and would try everything to save him.

Having visions could lead Sam to interact more with other characters out of necessity, which I think would only be good for Sam as a character.

And most importantly, having visions or other strange experiences is organic to the character as Sam was always shown to be more connected to the supernatural world than most. Yet the show pretty much put it on the back burner in recent seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  78. That makes sense. I was expecting a few hints though on what form the darkness would take.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I maybe shouldn't be answering this because her death wasn't a big deal to me, but I'm going to take a shot anyway. From what I've seen it's a combination of a few factors among different groups of fans:

    - Those who strongly identified with her or who just really liked her.
    - Those who think the show has a misogynist history and want the pattern of treating of women like objects to be brutally killed to further men's storylines to stop.

    - Those who are just really sick of the constant despair in the show and popular characters getting killed off.
    - Those who are a little confused about why she was killed off, since Dean shouldn't have needed her death as an incentive to go off. It was suggested early on that it was inevitable that whoever holds the mark would eventually succumb to it.

I'm the last two groups, although it wasn't a huge deal to me and not the worst sin of the season, imo. On the second group, in other circumstances I might be in that camp, but I think with this show it's more complicated than that. The two main characters are men, and supporting characters of a lot of shows are sacrificed to further the stories of the leads, so there's a natural unbalance there based on this being a show about brothers.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I think there was a lot of bad writing in the season as a whole, but I think Charlie going back to her hotel room alone was consistent with her past behavior. She's always lived alone and more recently made a lot of very reckless choices that could be considered "stupid" if they had ended badly. Among them were going off to Oz, taking on the Wizard in Oz (I forget the details of that episode, but she ended up splitting herself in two), going off alone after the book in the first place, continuing to travel alone after she learned that the Stynes were after her.

She had no way of knowing that the Stynes had finally caught up with her (or even that they were still interested in her) and that she was suddenly in imminent danger. Remember that Charlie was traveling alone, and had booked her own hotel room, when Sam contacted her. Had Sam never asked for her help in translating that book, she would have still been alone in that hotel room, and the Stynes would have still found her.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think that could be interesting a crossover between SUPERNATURAL and GRIMM!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. They should have teased it more because the way it has been talked about so far doesn't sound exciting. It leads me to think that the darkness is not going to be "epic" from the get-go. It seems like the brothers don't know what the hell happened and they have no idea what the true consequences will be.

However, Jared revealing that Sam will have visions of sorts got me excited so I'm curious to see how they will handle that. Plus episode 4 sounds great! So I think I will tune in for season 11 although I haven't seen all of season 10 as of now.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Because Jacob straight up told her he was tracking the BotD and not her, she didn't have the book anymore and layed low under the radar. Add on that we also learned that the one Styne who was responsible in finding her was slacking off.

    ReplyDelete
  84. You left out the group of people that did not care for her and welcomed her death.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I left it out because I was answering the question why it was a big deal to people, but no argument that that group exists.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hmm... Funny though, the Styns killed an ordinary guy who just showed the Winchesters survaillance footage... and he wasn't even in contac with the book. Now ask yourself why would the director show us this scene, if there wasn't a reason behind it, namely to show us that these Styns are psychopaths, they don't need a reason to kill, they just do it. And Charlie messed with them, stole their precious relict, humiliated this über-necromancer-occult wanna be family ....she was never off the radar. Like I said absolutely bad and poor writing. The Styns storyline was hastily shoved in, they suddenly poped up and out... according to the motto, psychopaths don't need reason & logic. Hence to search for logic in their mo then makes no sense. Imo the only reason for the short existance of the Styns was to push Deans MoC aggression towards Sam and others. Which could be seen in 10x22 'The Prisoner' at Charlies burial scene. Further the psychopathic nature of the Styns could be seen in the intro of 10x22 'The Prisoner' when the little Styns was bullied by this wanna be punk, I mean this punk got killed just because he was an a-hole.
Now what truly bothers me is the IGNORANCE of the viewers that make a fuss about Charlie, but have absolutely no problem with Dean killing an innocent boy, ...coldblooded! Can you see the mismatch? I mean this whole MoC story was for the drain when in the end every one remembers Charlies stupid death, but the brutal, aggressive and coldblooded transformation of Dean through the MoC, that changed his whole nature and turned it up side down, isn't even bothered with.

HAHA THIS IS THE BEST CAST EVER!!! :D SUPERNATURAL, JENSEN & JARED FOREVER!! ♥

    ReplyDelete
  88. Personally to me, it was very revealing that Carver could not find the words to justify Charlie's death (not that I was too fond of her). I thought the question was very put and not at all disrespectful. There are a large number of people who liked Charlie and its a "to each his/her own". My issue wih t her was not that she was a girl (I liked that she was smart and not a love interest) but how she was elevated to the hunter status equaling the Winchesters so quickly, having been in the "business" for maybe a few months and complaining to Sam (who along with Dean has lost the most and gone through the most as any hunter could) about it.
Coming back to Carver's answer, he should have had a better answer prepared. Did they not anticipate any hard questions to the panel? Seems to me, Jared and Jensen understand their characters and what the fans of the show want a lot more than some of the writers/producers.
I would have liked to see someone ask Carver: "Why does Sam always get knocked out? Is he not as good a hunter anymore?"; "Why did you think Crowley and his mom deserved so much screen space? It didn't feel as important to the story line and it seemed at the expense of the brothers."
It seemed evident Jared and Jensen's opinions are not taken into account as much. Also, I want to say that I really have great appreciation for Jensen's directing. All of his directed episodes have been pretty good (Weekend at Bobby's, 3rd episode with the Shining-like chase). Wish he could do more.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I thought the way they handled the Claire episodes that they may be designing the next spinoff around her. Considering her bad ass new Angel SWORD.

    ReplyDelete
  90. No, not all of it. Please Sam, head injuries and Supernatural go hand in hand. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  91. This picture shows what kind of amazing person Jensen is !!! We are truly lucky!!! All our guys are spectacular both in the show and realty !!!

  92. Jared was cute with her, too! ^^

  93. ya see that bothers me, that some ignore the 'Witch-Wars' at Oz where she played presumably a prominent role at the side with Dorothy. Now we can assume being at war with supernatural beings will change ones habbits. Especially when one knows how the occult functions. Further she knew the problematic and the urgency that her doing was a team work and not some solo nerdy larp or convention stuff, so she knew the danger, further she was a pc gamer, therefor she would have known to leave the group ends in death, furthermore as a larper playing a 'high' functioning role, she knew the importance of tactics, strategy and intelligence, lastly she agreed by her own will to rescue Dean and to help with the angel, Sam. Therefor to say well she was a loner and Sam asked her, doesn't fit anymore. She was a loner befor she met the brothers but after that I would say she knew what was at stake. Sam gave her ALL information he had at that time. She was absolutely informed, she could have said simply NO, but she didn't further she knew how persistance and deadly the Stynes were, I mean they chased her over Europe to the US, further she was a witness about information that NOBODY should have known, don't forget the Styn's were an occult operating group, and occult comes from the Latin word occultus "clandestine, hidden, secret" further is "knowledge of the hidden" therefor she should have known, that no matter what happens or even giving the book away won't save her. Because she knew who the Styn's were, she knew their secret and what they were doing. That alone was her death sentance. Therefor this has nothing to do with Sam asking her to help with the translation, the moment she by her own will and conscious stole the book, to save Dean, she was in deadly danger. Saying the Styn's would have killed her anyway.
That is why imo the writing is aweful because they ignored the 'new' experiences that influences ones behavior. Saying they deliberately dumbed her down, portraing her as a ignorant, freaky, selfish person, which from the beginning we all know she wasn't. Like I said, I was no fan of Charlie, but that doesn't change the fact that the writers have done an aweful and ignorant job.

    ReplyDelete
  94. AAAH! Sam had an imaginary friend as a child! Carver says that we are going to learn that imaginary friends are actually a thing.

I love that because like I said earlier, I like to think that Sam is naturally "sensitive" so the supernatural is drawn to Sam. I think that would be especially the case when Sam was a child.

It sounds a little creepy that Sam's imaginary friend was a real entity. However, I think it must have been friendly in general. But maybe John figured out what was going on and got rid of it? I could see John and Dean indulging Sam at first because he was sort of the baby of the family but then Sam's insistence that they have to accommodate for the imaginary friend must have started to wear thin.

I wonder if they are going to cast someone new as young Sam!

  95. Hmm. Not quite sure what to think of that. I'll have to see where that goes. It would be funny if this is the origin story behind Sam telling John there was a monster under his bed, from the pilot.

Are you thinking back on Paley Fest? From Supernatural Wiki:

Viewer: I’m from Texas too. *The boys whoop* What urban legend or folklore really does scare you guys?

Jared: How about those bees? I’ll say something, my Daddy used to make me watch a show called Shadow Man, about a shadow that lived under a kid’s bed. He was not very popular at school and Shadow Man started getting all those bullies for him and then, one day, came another kid Shadow Man... yes, plain out scary. *embarrassed*

    ReplyDelete
  97. I was mixing up 2 and 3. Thinking of the quote from the pilot, but had substituted bed for closet. I just think it would be cool if they built up a backstory around such a classic line from the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  98. My first reaction was that they'll show a more straightforward "One day Sam started to talk about his imaginary friend who wasn't actually imaginary" scenario. But it would probably be more dramatic if Sam's imaginary friend was at first a thing in Sam's closet/under Sam's bed and Sam was scared of it before befriending it.

In addition, the writers like re-visiting past events etc. that have been mentioned on the show. However, I don't really like the idea of them turning something that Sam referred to in the Pilot into an actual thing because it weakens Sam's argument ( the Pilot is an episode that should not be messed with).

Dean: Don't be afraid of the dark? Are you kidding me? Of course you should be afraid of the dark. You know what's out there.
Sam: Yeah, I know, but still. The way we grew up, after Mom was killed, and Dad's obsession to find the thing that killed her.

I think that the brothers' argument in the Pilot works largely because both of them have a point. Sam is saying that he had a common fear as a child but John overreacted based on his obsession with hunting and killing evil. Dean has a valid point too because John was aware of supernatural evil existing so he dealt with Sam's fear of monsters accordingly i.e. you have to be armed so you can protect yourself against evil things.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I don't know. I don't think introducing the supernatural into these stories weakens Sam's very sane point of view that dads shouldn't give children guns. Besides, I think at this point it's accepted that Sam's dream to live a normal life had a bit of denial in it. Even he would say that now.

You brought up the point where there were two instances where Sam and was complaining of monsters. I think it would be great if they built more of a story from that. I'm envisioning it as.the monsters being monsters, and the supernatural friend helping him when his dad's gun failed. And then Sam later writing it off as childhood fantasy.

    ReplyDelete
  100. When I first heard the news, I thought that the writers must have been inspired by Jared. At the 2014 Nerd HQ panel, he told that he always loved the Shadow Man, a kid's shadow that played with him and protected him till it turned on him. Jared said that he loved the dynamic of something that's your friend or a part of you turning on you.

However, I think it would be better if imaginary friends were basically good/neutral i.e. they might do things that could be characterized as destructive but they aren't malicious. I wouldn't like the message to be similar to "pet dogs can be monsters too". But I guess imaginary friends have to be potentially dangerous because of the nature of the show. I just think that it would be pretty depressing if even Sam's imaginary friend tried to hurt him since a lot of people who were part of Sam's life were actually demons.

In 2.11 Playthings, the little girl had an "imaginary friend" who turned out to be a ghost of a little girl. Maybe it was just a goof but when the girls ran past Sam and Dean as the boys were checking in, Sam moved out of the way like he could see/sense the other girl too. So maybe Sam has always been attuned to spirits and the like – even more so as a child.

I'm envisioning it as.the monsters being monsters, and the supernatural friend helping him when his dad's gun failed.

I like that idea! After all, it was supposed to be Sam's imaginary friend. The show could still make it creepy because children/animals seeing something that you can't see is always a bit unnerving. Then there's the fear of what kind of influence the entity had on Sam especially if Sam started to interact more and more with just his imaginary friend.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Okay, I found this old interview:

iF: Any critters that you want to see on the series?

PADALECKI: I want to see the shadow man! It was a TWILIGHT ZONE character that got developed into a TV movie that my Dad and I would always watch and it’s about a shadow man that’s loyal to a kid and takes care of him. If bullies pick on the kid all of a sudden the bully is gone forever and you don’t know what happened to him. Then one-day shadow man turns on him for no apparent reason. So I loved that idea. Of course, then there’s the monster under the bed that I’d love to see. There are tons of classics that I hope we get around to.

If the writers got the idea for the episode from Jared... Perhaps imaginary friends can go rogue or become more and more unpredictable as time goes on. Or they can become overprotective to the point that they cause real harm to people who might not deserve to be punished so harshly.

So maybe all those years ago John realized that his youngest son was interacting with an actual entity (maybe you have to be a child or have a connection with the entity to see it) and then John got rid of it before it could have a chance to do something to Sam or do something bad to "protect" Sam. (The show could bring back the actor who played young John Winchester. He is popular at conventions. They could even bring back the actor who played young Dean in seasons 9 and 10.)

However, it would be nice if the story had more of a wistful tone to it like Sam would remember that he had an imaginary friend and all the fun he had. Maybe imaginary friends leave when you stop believing in them.

But if young Sam knew that his father "killed" his friend, I could see that causing Sam to feel more resentment towards his father. John seems to have taught Dean a very black and white view on supernatural beings so it's likely that John assumed straight away that the entity was harmful to Sam.

I've gotten the impression that despite Sam and Dean being together a lot growing up, Sam was a lonely child. So maybe imaginary friends help children who need a friend! And maybe they come from another realm through a closet or something like that. Or they live in a different plane of existence but some children can form a connection with them.

Your idea "I'm envisioning it as.the monsters being monsters, and the supernatural friend helping him when his dad's gun failed" got me thinking that Sam's imaginary friend might've sacrificed itself for Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It is true that the different way Sam talked about the two instances of having been afraid of something in the dark means that it would make more sense if the upcoming episode referred to the Pilot instead of the Christmas episode.
"Yeah? When I told Dad I was scared of the thing in my closet, he gave me a .45." (1.01 Pilot) vs. "But Dad said the monsters under my bed weren’t real." (3.08 A Very Supernatural Christmas)

The former leaves an opening for young Sam having had a very good reason for having been convinced that "the thing in his closet" was real whereas the latter indicates that Sam had been mollified by his father telling him that the monsters under his bed weren't real. (I think that originally the difference between the two situations was due to Sam already knowing about the supernatural at age nine.)

Maybe an imaginary friend could be dangerous not because it would want to harm he child but because interacting with something that is not human and doesn't exist in the same way can lead to all sorts of trouble. A child could get into real danger if imaginary friends tend to be impish or it's not in their nature to think practically like "We shouldn't be playing like this, this could be dangerous," like an older sibling would. Imaginary friends just wanna have fun!

But maybe an imaginary friend could turn against the child because of an argument. Imaginary friends most likely don't think or feel quite like humans do but they are close enough to human for a child to want to be friends with them even at the risk of annoying his or her parents and siblings. If imaginary friends possess special powers, things could get ugly. Just being "invisible" is already a huge advantage. They say that children can be cruel so the same could apply to imaginary friends...

Maybe imaginary friends need attention, otherwise they die or go away when the child stops the interacting with them.

  103. I thought her death was just stupid and pointless, and I wasn't even a fan of Charlie.

They brought her on as some super, ninja hunter in one episode, and two episodes later she's cowering in the corner of the bathroom like she has no skills at all. Huh? Plus, the idea that she needed to die so Dean could go off and kill the Stynes was just stupid.

She should have been left in Oz where we never had to see her again! Why bring her back just to kill her? And in such a stupid, contrived episode?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Why are they bringing her back? What more is there to see w/her? Argh . . . . I guess it doesn't matter since I don't plan to watch next year anyway!

  105. San, did you read Jared's comments about the AKF tribute and what it meant to him? I thought of our disagreement w/those on WFB after reading what Jared had to say about it

  106. Hi, lala2! It's great to hear from you. I had been wondering where you were and whether you had been following the news from Comic-Con.

Do you mean that you also think that Jared has been alluding to having to deal with something more serious than "exhaustion" and "missing his family"? Do you remember where you read the comments that you are referring to?

I believe we will be vindicated one day when Jared feels that he can talk about what he went through this hiatus more openly. I think we were treated unfairly just because we were not willing to toe the party line. Already back then there were different things that pointed to Jared struggling with something he had struggled with in the past, too. The messages he posted on his Facebook and Twitter, a couple of fans sharing what Jared had said to them when they talked to him/were in contact with him (can't be verified of course but seem believable) and how he looked at the Gilmore Girls reunion.

"It's been a struggle, but I've kept on fighting. My only birthday ask is that you guys Always Keep Fighting too." – JP

  107. Why are they bringing her back?

It seems like they need her for Castiel to have more of a storyline. I also think that Claire will be used as a vehicle for more interaction between Dean and Cas. Some fans have also been wanting a spin-off called "Wayward Daughters". So maybe the writers will bring back Jody, Donna, Claire and Alex.

I guess it doesn't matter since I don't plan to watch next year anyway!

Aww :( Does that mean you are not excited about what was revealed at Comic-Con? I love that it seems like Sam will have a story! In this video, Jared tells that Sam starts to have visions or dreams and memories that maybe weren't memories. Sam believes that there is a higher power trying to contact him to tell him how to solve the problem. And we are going to see a few characters via visions that we haven't seen in Supernatural in a long time.

What do you make of Dean telling Sam, "You want to know what I think? I think it should be you up there -- not her," in front of Charlie's funeral pyre in episode 10.22 The Prisoner?

Was Charlie's death meant to cause Dean to feel such rage that some viewers would wonder whether Dean could do something bad to his little brother Sam?

  109. It's good to hear from you as well, San!

Yes, I thought we (and you especially) were treated horribly (no surprise on that site) simply for stating the obvious. Maybe if we were being malicious about his depression, I could understand the outrage but we weren't. We only said we believed he was more than "just tired" and hoped that he got better soon. I'm not sure why they freaked out so much about that.

I don't care for posting on that forum anyway. You can't freely express yourself IMO. Most ppl who pos there aren't rude or cruel

  112. And was it presumptuous of fans to hold a candlelight vigil in support of "Always Keep Fighting" at Comic-Con? No. Jared loved it. I don't think that all those fans would have done that if Jared hadn't sent out a cry for help that got everyone really worried about him earlier this summer. Clearly, there are a lot of people who didn't think that Jared just needed a bit of rest at home with his family. They saw that it was more serious than that. And Jared himself has been consistent in saying that he keeps fighting. That phrase holds a lot of meaning in the context of AKF.

    simply for stating the obvious.

That's what's so maddening about it. They got on their high horse even though I'm sure that even their logic and instinct told them that Jared was suffering from more than just exhaustion and homesickness. I mean, during his "Always Keep Fighting" campaign, Jared had been candid about how he was fighting and when he posted those messages asking for support, he used the AKF hashtag etc.

I'm not sure why they freaked out so much about that.

I suspect that the one who runs the site feared that she could fall out of favor with those who are connected to the show in some way. So she cracked down hard on those who dared to speak their mind. The rest seem to take being a "good fan" to a completely ridiculous level i.e. you have to believe everything you are told by the people who are involved in the show or otherwise you are a bad fan.

You can't freely express yourself IMO.

I agree. It seems that only being Pollyanna, burying one's head in the sand or fake relief was allowed. When someone expressed something that diverged from the official story, suddenly it was "off-topic" and needed to be hidden away or shouted down.

Yes, I thought we (and you especially) were treated horribly (no surprise on that site)

Thank you, lala2. It means a lot that you saw that as well. Perhaps I could have handled things better towards the end but I saw that she had a personal problem with me. And when I saw that she was basically baiting me, there was no reason for me to hold back.

And weren't you made to feel unwelcome there before, too?

I will have to find you the link but there was an EOnline interview with him where he spoke about how the campaign addresses stuff he's dealt with and STILL dealing with so the tribute was very touching to him. He also spoke about fighting back tears when he read the letter and saw the light. I think he was very touched by the fans and really felt the love the fans have for him.

Thank you for the info! I did notice that Jared seemed to get very emotional on stage and he had to visibly compose himself. At one point, it looked like he wiped a tear from his eye. <3

  113. Yes, I think that is exactly what Carver intended. Charlie's death was supposed to push Dean over the edge when, IMO, he should have been "on edge" the entire season instead of being "normal" Dean. As others mentioned, kidnapping Charlie could have achieved the same result.
Now, don't get me wrong. I don't care that Charlie is dead, and I'm not one who believes she shouldn't have been killed. I just didn't care for the dumb way in which she died. That's all. The entire scenario was stupid to me.
Charlie leaves the safety Castiel provided b/c Rowena was getting on her nerves instead of moving to another section of the huge warehouse/abandoned factory. Are we really supposed to believe that the there were no other rooms where Charlie could work? Castiel couldn't have moved Rowena to another room or touched her forehead and knocked her out so Charlie could work? Castiel couldn't have gone w/Charlie to her new location to protect her while she worked? It's not like Rowena hadn't been left alone before. Castiel couldn't have revived Charlie? Charlie couldn't take down an injured, one-armed Styne when she took down a perfectly healthy, two-armed one a few episodes earlier and had apparently been fighting and avoiding them for weeks?!?!!?
It was stupid. I am in the minority in that I didn't care when Ellen and Jo died, but at least their deaths weren't stupid. The entire setup for Charlie dying was dumb and horribly contrived IMO. I don't even like Charlie and feel she deserved a better exit than that!
W/r/t Dean's statement to Sam at the funeral - I guess we were supposed to think Dean would be willing to kill Sam. I wish he had killed him b/c I think the story would have been more interesting, but I also saw the statement as a way to make Sam feel guilty and to fulfill Carver's whole "whose the bigger monster" arc.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Some fans have also been wanting a spin-off called "Wayward Daughters". So maybe the writers will bring back Jody, Donna, Claire and Alex.

Ugh . . . . just no! I have no interest in seeing that since I hate Alex and don't care too much about Claire.

Aww :( Does that mean you are not excited about what was revealed at Comic-Con?
I actually didn't watch the individual interviews. I just watched the panel, and nothing much was said on the panel that I can recall. The idea of Sam's visions returning is slightly intriguing to me b/c I always wanted EK to do more w/them and the TK Sam once displayed, but I have ZERO faith in Jeremy Carver. It may sound interesting (i.e., the Year of the Deanmon), but it rarely plays out that way on screen IMO.
I would be shocked if this season was good b/c each season has been worse than the last IMO. That said, if you and others are raving about the show this year, I will definitely tune in again b/c I always wanted to see how the Winchester story ended, and I do still enjoy the actors and characters.

I've been meaning to watch the Nerd HQ panel. I've heard that Jared opened up about what the church scene in Sacrifice means to him on a personal level and that Jensen looked at Jared intently when Jared was talking.

And hasn't Jensen said something like he thought that Jared might've gone too far when they were shooting the season eight finale?

In this video from Comic-Con, Jared says, "I haven't been shy about my own struggles with depression and anxiety."

  117. I did notice that Jared seemed to get very emotional on stage and he had to visibly compose himself. At one point, it looked like he wiped a tear from his eye.

Yeah . . . I think he was truly shocked by the tribute. He learns about it in two steps. They hold up the lights, and no one knows what they are about. Someone shouts "Always Keep Fighting" so he and Mark stand up and applaud them. That's where you see him blow a kiss to the audience and wipe his eye. I think he was truly touched in that moment. The panel continues, and then later on, Richard gives him the letter, which contains one of the candles and explains what it was about. The letter had a really nice inspirational message too, which you can read on Jared's FB I think. You can see that he was really moved by it, so when he says he was fighting back tears, I believe him. He seemed truly touched. He told one interviewer that he was still holding onto the candle and hadn't let it go.

Thank you, lala2. It means a lot that you saw that as well.

No problem! You handled yourself very well IMO against a slew of baseless accusations. None of your comments were out of line or rude. The entire thing was blown out of proportion by the site owner and some of the posters, IMO. You were not inappropriate, rude, or spreading gossip. The site owner's attitude about the entire matter was ridiculous. But as you said, maybe she was afraid to lose her "in" w/the show. Who knows? I know she wasn't pleased when I told her she couldn't compare her "exhausted" moment to Jared since she's not him and doesn't know what he's feeling. Haha!

And weren't you made to feel unwelcome there before, too?

Most definitely! That's why I don't post there often. You can really only post there if you are in complete agreement w/the site owner. If you disagree w/her and state your opinion, that's fine until she feels you've stated it enough and then she bashes you for continuing to complain about an arc. If I want to complain until the end of time that it was OOC for Sam to NOT look for his brother in S8, then that's my prerogative. Skip my posts if they are repetitive to you, but don't try to dictate to me what I can and cannot write about. That's why I quit posting there and found this forum where I can post what I want. What's also funny is how she calls out others on being too sensitive but then turns around and displays the same weird sensitivity over a different subject. I'm sure she doesn't even realize she's quite hypocritical in that way.

It seems that only being Pollyanna, burying one's head in the sand or fake relief was allowed. When someone expressed something that diverged from the official story, suddenly it was "off-topic" and needed to be hidden away or shouted down.

Yup! It's like no one could say that didn't believe the "exhausted" story or felt there was more to it than simple exhaustion w/o being shouted down. As we all saw, his tweets did not scream "exhaustion" to anyone so what was wrong w/saying he was probably depressed or something?

The rest seem to take being a "good fan" to a completely ridiculous level i.e. you have to believe everything you are told by the people who are involved in the show or otherwise you are a bad fan.

I know, right? And how our discussion of the use "exhaustion" in Hollywood was twisted into us saying Jared had a drug addiction was beyond ridiculous! We never said that!

  118. I felt lackluster about season 11 until I watched some of those roundtable interviews. I think that Sam having psychic powers is a storyline that got pretty much dropped. So I'm excited that they'll go there again.

I would also like to know whether or not Sam still has demon blood in him. At the latest, it should have been addressed when an angel possessed Sam!

Hopefully, you'll still be around to talk about the show even if it's just about the past seasons or what has been going on in the fandom!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I've heard that Jared opened up about what the church scene in Sacrifice means to him on a personal level and that Jensen looked at Jared intently when Jared was talking.
Yes, he did. It's kind of sad b/c it brought home to me how upset he must have been w/himself for missing the May conventions, which likely just exacerbated the depression.

The audience member asked for a moment that solidified their characters for them and where they felt they truly understood the characters. Jared may have mentioned Fresh Blood at first, but then changed his answer to Sacrifice. He basically said he's always had a complex about feeling like he's not good enough and that he's letting people down so when Sam expressed that his greatest sin was how much he had let down Dean, Jared felt like they were writing his own "f*cking" life story. He said he just looks at the ppl he loves and hopes that he hasn't let them down. He then looks over at Jensen who is giving him a serious, concerned look so he just touches Jensen's shoulder to let him know he's okay. It's a cute, brotherly moment btw them actually.

His comments were interesting to me b/c I remember Jared talking about how emotional those scenes were for him, and I thought he was just feeling Sam's emotions in that moment but now know Jared related to Sam on a personal level.
Thanks for the video, by the way! I had not seen it :-)

    ReplyDelete
  120. I should watch more of those roundtable interviews then. Haha :-)
I am very interested in whether Sam has demon blood in him b/c I never knew if we were supposed to take him at his word that the trials were cleansing his blood or if that was just something Sam felt was happened to him. It was never clear to me, esp since he made that statement when he was practically passed out and unconscious. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  121. And Dean still told Sam that Sam should have died instead of Charlie?? Wow. I wonder how they are going to take that back. It seems that it wasn't just the mark talking.

I doubt it will be addressed at all. I'm pretty sure it has been forgotten. Plus, I love Dean, but he's the one who holds grudges. Sam doesn't. I would be surprised if Sam raised it as an issue b/c I'm sure that statement has been long forgotten by him.

Ha, I didn't care for them much either! :D That's why I don't understand why so many complain over Ellen and Jo's deaths.

Hahaha :-) Yet another thing we agree about! Woo-hoo! I'm glad I'm not alone in not caring about them being dead! LOL! Frankly, I cared more about Ash and Rufus than Ellen and Jo.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I doubt it will be addressed at all. I'm pretty sure it has been forgotten.

Yes, the writers do like to "re-set" the brothers after a finale. And it seems like the demon Dean issue was never really dealt with?

I would be surprised if Sam raised it as an issue b/c I'm sure that statement has been long forgotten by him.

I hope that Dean will address it now that the brothers are supposed to be united again. Otherwise Sam will carry that wound inside of him because he did feel guilty for Charlie's death. I could see him trying to rationalize it away i.e. Dean was under the influence of the mark but that wouldn't really be a fix because emotions are more complicated than that.

Hahaha :-) Yet another thing we agree about! Woo-hoo! I'm glad I'm not alone in not caring about them being dead!

Yes! :D I loved Ash. He is the one who deserved a better death. It was very sad to imagine how his last moments had been. In addition, I thought that it was a bit weird that Dean could ID the charred body based on a watch and that that was the end of Ash.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I need to watch more of them too! There might be little gems that I'm missing!

I wonder what the significance of Sam choosing not to use his own blood to cure demon Dean was.

In addition, I'd like to know whether the trials changed Sam permanently. Or was he fully healed by Gadreel and Castiel so it's like nothing had happened?

It was never clear to me, esp since he made that statement when he was practically passed out and unconscious. LOL!

And Sam did not finish the trials so wouldn't that mean that Sam wasn't fully "purified" if the trials were in fact purifying him from the demon blood?

And the grace that Gadreel left in Sam! I still wonder whether there's some of it left. :D

I love the concept of episode four "Baby." Are you planning on tuning in for that?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Yeah . . . the "Baby" episode sounds the most interesting to me.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I hope that Dean will address it now that the brothers are supposed to be united again. Otherwise Sam will carry that wound inside of him because he did feel guilty for Charlie's death.

I honestly don't think this will happen b/c I don't think the writers will address Dean's words to Sam again. I think the brothers will be all about fighting the "Darkness" this year.

I thought that it was a bit weird that Dean could ID the charred body based on a watch and that that was the end of Ash.

Agreed! I really liked Ash and didn't feel he needed to die.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yeah, I think that what Dean said to Sam will fall into the category of things that are silently understood between the brothers i.e. Dean didn't really mean it because he wasn't fully himself at the time.

However, I think that Dean will tell Sam that he is sorry for what Sam underwent because of the mark of Cain.

Was the actor who played Ash unavailable? It just seemed like a very weird way to write a character, who had become a friend and an ally to the Winchesters, off the show.

  127. When was the last comedic episode that you can recall?

Maybe About a Boy was supposed to be one of those? But it didn't turn out to be all that comedic at least to me.

I guess Fan Fiction is lighthearted. Robbie Thompson came up with "Baby", which worries me... I'd like that episode to be more serious in tone. But of course I want there to be fun brotherly moments in the Impala.

  128. It's kind of sad b/c it brought home to me how upset he must have been w/himself for missing the May conventions, which likely just exacerbated the depression.

I think that Jared reaching out to fans was partly due to Jared feeling like he was letting everyone down by having to cancel his appearances. I hope that the outpouring of support helped to alleviate some of that.

Jared would probably benefit from some happier moments for Sam and Dean instead of always relating to Sam's suicidal, depressed state of mind.

Yes. In season 8, Sam was willing to die so he could complete the trials and not let his brother down anymore. In season 9, he felt that there was no upside to being alive. And in season 10, Sam accepted his fate to be killed by his own brother...

Jensen has certainly talked about how Dean's state of mind affected him really badly during season nine.

  129. RE: the candle moment

Yes! It also seemed like he wanted Jensen to answer a fan's question first because reading the letter had made him feel so emotional.

He told one interviewer that he was still holding onto the candle and hadn't let it go.

And that seems to be the case even now! :')

I know she wasn't pleased when I told her she couldn't compare her "exhausted" moment to Jared since she's not him and doesn't know what he's feeling. Haha!

Hah! And you were correct. By her own admission, she had a serious health problem. That's completely different from Jared's situation. And even her own problem hadn't been just about struggling with exhaustion!

The site owner's attitude about the entire matter was ridiculous.

Especially the way she would edit out comments only to leave her own abrasive remarks was absolutely ridiculous! It was also done in manner that gave a false impression of the original comment.

And how our discussion of the use "exhaustion" in Hollywood was twisted into us saying Jared had a drug addiction was beyond ridiculous! We never said that!

Yes, their overreaction was just a way for them to try to discredit us.

It really is amazing how Jared not being simply exhausted and missing his family became such a taboo despite what Jared had revealed about himself during the first "Always Keep Fighting" campaign and what he posted on his Twitter and Facebook before and after he cancelled his appearances at the conventions.

  130. That's what I never understood either. It would have been different if Jared had never disclosed his own diagnosis, and we were "putting depression" on him but Jared told everyone about his depression. As he mentioned in that interview, he hasn't been shy about his issues so I'm not sure why us saying he may be depressed was such a huge issue for them. It is certainly what the majority of the fandom believed given the tweets and FB msgs he rec'd.

Honestly, I thought the whole thing was weird. But given the way the posters there have fits about certain comments and the site owner's inconsistent moderation, I can't say I was too shocked it went down the way it did.

But back to Jared - I'm happy the fans gave him that candle and the inspirational words. If he's feeling low again, hopefully, he can look to them for some strength.

  131. Yes, something was definitely not right with the way it went down. Like you said, it's not like we just made stuff up. Our posts were based on what Jared had shared about himself. And the reaction in the whole fandom shows that most did not believe the official statement in any case.

They tried to act like they didn't think that mental illness and depression are stigmatizing. Yet others expressing that Jared was probably suffering from some form of depression was so hush-hush and offensive to them!

and the site owner's inconsistent moderation

Yes, I noticed that she reacts a lot stronger to people criticizing her than she does when it happens to other people on the site. And she decides whether something is "off-topic" or "out of line" based on how she personally feels about the poster or the topic and what is convenient for her. There are some things she reacts to viscerally while others she lets slide.

I felt that the site owner started to target me. And when I noticed that she as the moderator was baiting me to "break the rules", I didn't care about sticking around after that. She also tried to pretend to be "magnanimous" and "more mature" for a second only to go back to using her abrasive tone. And she would make sure to have the last word by abusing her power as the moderator.

the way the posters there have fits about certain comments

That's the tough thing about it. A subpar site owner is one thing. But when the other posters start scapegoating, too, it's hard for the forum to recover from that since it's basically the same five or so people commenting...

But back to Jared - I'm happy the fans gave him that candle and the inspirational words. If he's feeling low again, hopefully, he can look to them for some strength.

Yes! I think it's really special how he cherishes that tealight. It seems like he has been keeping it close to him ever since he got it at the panel.

I know, right? Almost no one believed the "official" story as evidenced by the tweets and msgs he rec'd. As I told someone over on Supernatural.tv, if he had just been "tired," I don't think he would have tweeted what he did. I don't know. And again, if we had been making rude or mean comments about him or depression, then I could have understood the outrage, but we didn't do that at all. The whole thing was so strange.

There are some things she reacts to viscerally while others she lets slide.

That's what I don't get about her and why I don't post there any longer. There is no rhyme or reason to her way of moderation. Plus, as an adult, I don't want to be moderated. If people are rude to me, I will ignore them. I want to be free to say what I want w/o being scolded b/c my comments are different from the group's.

  133. I agree. I definitely think he was likely worried that the fans would be very disappointed in him for not attending. I'm sure some were, but his mental health is much more important than a convention. At the end of the day, he is a father and husband first. He has to be present for his family so if he needed time to himself to get back on track, I'm glad he took it!
I remember Jensen's comments about S9. It reminds me of this soap actor I liked who played a character that was constantly trashed by the other characters. The writing was ridiculously biased against this one character so every day, other characters were trashing him and talking down to him. He once said that the constant trashing he endured on the show was starting to take its toll on him in his real life. He said it was hard getting up every day, going to work, and knowing your character won't catch a break. I had never thought of that before, but it makes sense. And Jensen has always said he's hated playing the brother conflict. At one time, Jared enjoyed it (don't think he still does) but Jensen has always hated it.

  134. You're probably right about Fan Fiction. I, personally, didn't care for that episode but it was probably the only lighthearted one we've seen in a while. What was the episode where Sam was playing some card game w/some women? That was a light episode, right?
AAB is the only episode I enjoyed this year, and the only one I would gladly re-watch despite Sam getting knocked around at the end of the episode!

Ah, that's right! 10.06 Ask Jeeves. I did find some of it fun. Poor Sam getting a bit of attention :D

Also Jensen tweeting this later was fun:

One of the women called Sam a "young buck" in the episode.

  136. if he had just been "tired," I don't think he would have tweeted what he did.

Exactly. It's just common sense. And the people around him would have reacted differently if Jared had been simply burnt out from work and in need of an actual vacation.

And again, if we had been making rude or mean comments about him or depression, then I could have understood the outrage, but we didn't do that at all. The whole thing was so strange.

What was so baffling about that is that it's not like commenting on Jared's situation was off-limits, just expressing opinions that didn't fit the party line that the site defended vehemently for some reason.

I want to be free to say what I want w/o being scolded b/c my comments are different from the group's.

Yes, she has a habit of leaving chastising comments when she edits or unpublishes other people's comments. It just conveys that she doesn't act as an impartial moderator. She is censoring comments that she doesn't like based on her own opinions and how strongly she feels about a certain subject matter personally.

  137. The writing was ridiculously biased against this one character so every day, other characters were trashing him and talking down to him. He once said that the constant trashing he endured on the show was starting to take its toll on him in his real life. He said it was hard getting up every day, going to work, and knowing your character won't catch a break.

That sounds really extreme! :O But I can see how that could happen. You are channeling the character for most of the day every day and feel protective over the character yet have to hear constant abuse.

I think that Jensen definitely enjoys playing the lighter side of Dean. At Comic-Con, he made comments like he is tired of playing guilty Dean and Dean having a pity party so he hopes that that's now behind Dean.

It makes perfect sense that getting to play Sam who would feel better about himself, have a few laughs etc. for a change could really help Jared.

Jared enjoyed it (don't think he still does)

I agree. He definitely wants the show to go back to the brothers being united. He expressed similar thoughts before season ten as well.
