  1. I am usually all for personal drama in shows like this (Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels), but what they did to Pope this late in the game is just wrong. To me Pope has always been the one character that was the outsider he usually was the counter-point to what Mason and Weaver were trying to accomplish. If Weaver represented the military and Mason the everyman Pope represented the rogue/outlaw; someone who took a different approach to any given situation. Pope needs the 2nd mass and the 2nd mass needs him. If nothing more then the fact that most of the time he was objective while other were subjective.

Not since Juliette from Grimm has there been a character i really liked reduced to nothing more then a villain for the sake of the show needing a villain outside of the aliens. What could have been really interesting in Pope losing it and going crazy is just once again a rehash of Mason vs Pope but this time times 1000. And to make matters worse Anthony is blindly following this because they told him take it easy for a couple of day to get his mind back in order. I could go on, but i think i'll stop here.

Sorry for the rant, but going from True Detective to this is jarring on the mind.

  2. Not the best ep but the best of the season so far for me. The weak part was obviously the reversion of Pope from any progress he has made in the series to this, all to set up the played out "Pope vs Tom" conflict. I guess they can always spin it out that during the confrontation that there will be a situation that Tom will save Pope or that they will have to band together to survive (even though they did that theme before as well in an earlier season).
I didn't care for the writers all of a sudden taking one of the most stalwart in Anthony and flipping the character into a "Mason-hater", I can believe that he might have anger issues due to ptsd, but this feels a bit too unbelievable. The best parts for me was the not often seen paring with Anne/Ben, and of course finally getting some extended Volm and Cochise time and seeing a bit of their culture which we haven't gotten anything at all, and even though that it was sad that he lost his father, that cochise and Anne were able to get some closure from their lost loved ones. got a kick out of Dan finding that sweet Camaro on the raid, and poor unknown Ryan, as soon as Tom asked him to go on the raid, I said that guy might as well be wearing a red shirt, because he's a goner.... lol

  3. For a final season of a show about killing aliens and trying to save the population from extinct, this final season hasn't had a whole lot of alien fighting. This stuff just seems more like a rehash of what has happened before. At least Pope may finally die, still haven't cared about him since his introduction.

  4. Agreed about Anthony. No matter what has happened he's been true. A sudden switch to the dark side is a bit much. If he was to have ptsd, the symptoms shouldves been showing at least a season or two ago.

As for Pope........ this too is a bit of a stretch. Yes, he lost Sarah. But to blame ALL and EVERYTHING on Tom is just too easy, they've been doing that since Pope's first episode.

I have to wonder if this is all due to the "end of the show." Is it supposed to make the finale season more tense ? If so, I'd say they are falling short on these two characters.

And just where was Maggie during all of this? She was absent the entire episode.
