Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea – notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Benton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifull small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.

  • 25th March 2016 - Paul McCartney Joins Cast
EXCLUSIVE: After wrapping Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have gone back to add an extra big set-piece scene. I’ve heard that it is built around Paul McCartney, who quietly has joined the cast of the film. The picture, the fifth installment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Javier Bardem as the villainous Captain Salazar, and Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario play new characters and Orlando Bloom returns as Will Turner. No one was telling me what role McCartney plays. All I was told is that this is not a re-shoot, but rather an extra scene, and that there is plenty of time to add it because the film isn’t being released until May 26, 2017.

  1. Thanks for the round up! I'm probably one of the few people looking forward to this film..

    Just some food for thought/musings:

The Trident (The mythological object presented in this film) was first introduced in one of the young Jack Sparrow junior novels for kids, "Jack Sparrow: Poseidon's Peak" -So there is a little tie back.

    Synopsis.
Having been recently betrayed by his last crew member, Jack finds himself all alone on perhaps the most dangerous quest of his young life. Jack is on a mission to find something he isn't even sure exists - the mythical Trident of Poseidon. But there's a band of pirates who are also looking for the treasure. Will they, or Jack, find it first?"

I have felt ever since the end of POTC: At World's End that Disney would relaunch the series to get more into Jack's back story/redemption arc and work back towards Will Turner reuniting with Elizabeth Swann (and their son). In the fourth film we get clergy boy who is in love with a mermaid, which if one thinks about it, is ideal, as Philip would be perfect in the role that is fulfilled by any captain of Flying Dutchman, whose job is" ferry the souls of the dead". This film happens to be titled, *Dead Man* Tell No Tales, which suggest we may be getting some kind of ghost story or living-dead story like the first film, as it was said "no monsters" in this one. It is rumored that at least Orlando Bloom will be reprising his role--Keira Knightley however, continues to say she will never return to the Franchise and also Philip is not set appear in this one either. So perhaps later, if they can ever give Knightly the right price...

Also On Stranger Tides novel by Tim Powers was originally optioned for the first film, but Disney passed, but after reading it a couple of times, there are a lot of similarities that don't just match the forth film, but things from many of the films, There are however a couple of plots not used and I wonder if they will be sprinkled through out whatever films are left.

I'm looking forward to learning who Kaya Scodelario is playing. I heard early rumor when Rebecca Hall was looking at a role, that Barbossa's daughter might be featured, but I can't really imagine her the daughter of Barbossa, where I could of with Rebecca Hall. It would be interesting if they would introduce characters from the junior novels, like Constance or Arabella Smith.

It i also rumored that Jack Davenport may reprise his role (ghost??), but I guess we will have to wait and see.

  3. I loved the first two or three but really is necessary to keep making these. I want to continue to love the character of Jack Sparrow because he is wacky, fun and all around entertaining. Don't make me come to dislike the character because you are overplaying him and dragging this movie series out more then it needs to be. Didn't care for that last one with Penelope Cruz. Basically once the other characters disappeared including Elizabeth and Will it was very meh. Having them around kind of balanced out Jack's wackiness and goofy, self centered quality. I find a movie of all Jack Sparrow almost to much which I know sounds crazy but he needs characters and storylines for those characters that tone him down or play well with his character. There is such a thing as to much of a character on screen some times.

  4. I'm just glad Orlando Bloom is returning...but still holding hope that Keira would just make a small appearance.
Wonder if they will go through with the reboot where it will focus on Will (Orlando Bloom) and his son.
