A.D. - Canceled by NBC

Thanks to Omabin, IsaacS and Daniel Walsh for the heads up

NBC has canceled “A.D.: The Bible Continues” after one season, but producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey plan to return to the greatest story ever told on their nascent digital channel.

“A.D” averaged about 6.5 million viewers and a 1.o in adults 18-49 in live-plus-7 Nielsen ratings across its 12-episode run, which ended June 21. The series was designed to pick up where Burnett and Downey’s blockbuster 2013 miniseries “The Bible” left off and chronicle stories from the formative years of Christianity.

The numbers were too soft for a renewal on NBC. But now that the “A.D.” moniker is established with a devoted cadre of viewers, Burnett and Downey see it as a perfect tentpole for the launch of the OTT channel they have been working on since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall.

NBC: Nothing But Cancellation. The carnage continues. Is Siberia still alive?

  5. but,but,isn't this just miniseries?
anywhere i go it always stated as that, when exactly it changed to regular series?

  6. Sibera was canceled a long time ago lol

  7. Sounds like they want to create a Christian channel. We already have a few options, I'm not sure why there needs to be another one. It just seems like a vanity project that they are trying with their own capital more than any actual need or ability to sustain the concept.

  8. they already said that celebrity apprentice will return without trump

  9. True, they did, but I think once NBC gets going, they are going to "delay" the casting like they did last cycle. It's too much of a hassle to actually divorce the concept from Trump and make viewers forget about him. A few industry trades also brought up that casting will likely be delayed for "production" reasons.

  10. Basically, if you aren't Dateline, Dick Wolf and Reality TV, NBC don't want you! 😂

  11. Exactly. That's how NBC rolls. It doesn't matter what ratings Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris brings in, as long as it's not a complete disaster, I'm expecting an early renewal. It fits what NBC wants for their brand.

Thank you! The last time I heard about that show was December last year, it was still in limbo back then.

  13. Exactly. As for a midseason two hour medical block, it is unrealistic
due to the number of limited series and unscripted options still to be
scheduled. But then again, I think it was, characteristically true to nature, more fan
scheduling/hope without actual facts or evidence. Which maybe this
board needs to add... a fantasy schedule section, as this is the AD show cancellation thread.

  14. And the only two new shows NBC has renewed will be cancelled next year.

  15. The Mysteries Of Laura's fate rests on Blindspot/Undateable. If one or more does well, WB will package it again.

With I Can Do That!, I Can Do That!, Little Big Shots, and First Dates will likely all be used as bridge series when The Voice is on break. The best performer of the three has a chance to be that half season show in between The Voice and America's Got Talent and the other two filler/summer options unless they tank hard.

  16. I know lol

  17. Oh, boohoo. No more fairy tales on NBC :-(

  18. BTW i watched GOT "the dance of the dragons" and "Mother's mercy" . My thoughts are in the Open discussion thread

  19. That's what you get when you aren't faithful to scripture and yet claim you are. Well deserved for promoting this new age bullshit.

  20. They could move it to CBN or EWTN.

    ReplyDelete
  21. lol
you know what budget CBN is dealing with? A fairly micro-one compared to NBC. They couldn't do the show on there

and is EWTN airing anything but recordings of ceremonies?

Expected. Hope NBC does better this coming season. I think I'm done praying for them to fail as a network, after they cancelled my show a year ago. I'm over it finally.

  23. dude, the bible can (and has been) interpreted differently so often that there's no definite way to stay "faithful".

  24. wich one did they can?

Revolution. I know it went downhill, and quality was scarce on the show, but I just loved it. Lol

  26. Hehehe. I don't get CBN although they have a local version of The 700 Club in Asia, which is cringey to watch at best.

As for ETWN which I do get, apart from rosary novenas and live masses from the Vatican, they have a lot of other shows catering to different age groups. They're basically public access TV material at best. :D

  27. oh, I get that, NBC is on my sh*tlist as well but only for being so stubborn in not giving genre shows a shot.

Still bummed out over Revolution myself, was kind of my "Fallout" show.

watch this, kind of like Revolution

  30. BLASPHEMY! NBC, you godless heathens..........................(LOL.........sorry, but can no longer contain laughter)! I wonder if Mel Gibson is pissed - off? Nobody 4 LESS!!!

  31. Given the success of The Bible and Burnett’s track record, while A.D. was initially announced as an event series, it had been envisioned as a potentially continuing franchise. In April, ahead of the series’ Easter debut, Burnett told Deadline that writers already were working on scripts for Season 2. That may now happen on another platform
