ABC FAMILY GREENLIGHTS DRAMA PILOT “GUILT”

AS NETWORK LOOKS TO DOUBLE ITS ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
“GUILT” JOINS OTHER PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED PILOTS “STAY,”
    “BEYOND” AND “GORGEOUS MORONS”

Burbank, CA (June 25, 2015) – As ABC Family works to double its original programming over the next four years, the network has greenlit pilot production on a new one-hour drama series “Guilt.” This announcement comes on the heels of the network ordering pilots for scripted dramas “Stay,” the supernatural drama “Beyond” and scripted comedy “Gorgeous Morons.”

“‘Guilt’ is a sophisticated, sexy and suspenseful crime epic that will have audiences captivated week-to-week,” said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family.

“Guilt” is an edgy, soapy thriller that revolves around an American in London who becomes the prime suspect in the savage murder of her roommate. As the investigation unfolds, the viewers will question whether she's a naive, young girl whose poor decisions are being magnified under the ruthless glare of the British tabloids, or whether she's a sociopath who brutally murdered her friend. Even her own sister, who comes to London to defend her, will question how well she really knows her little sister as more and more ugly truths come out. This mystery will twist through all layers of London society -- from a posh, but depraved, sex club all the way up to the Royal Family itself. “Guilt” is written, created and executive-produced by Kathryn Price (“The Game Plan”) and Nichole Millard (“The Game Plan”). Steve McPherson will serve as executive producer. “Guilt” is a co-production of Sea to Sky Entertainment (the joint venture between Lionsgate Television and Thunderbird Films) and BV Family Productions in association with ABC Family.

  • 09:50 - Netflix - To Launch in India by 2016
The potential launch could shake up India's nascent VOD market which has seen recent entrants like Hooq, Hotstar, Ditto TV and Eros Now.

Increasingly global streaming giant Netflix has plans to launch in India by 2016, according to a report in the Times of India Thursday.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the Times report said Netflix had "firmed up plans" to enter the Indian market which is still virgin territory for VOD companies. “We have said we plan to be nearly global by the end of 2016. We have nothing else to share at this point,” a Netflix spokesperson told the Times.

India seems a fertile market for VOD uptake given that Internet penetration and mobile connectivity are increasing rapidly. According to a recent industry report by consultants KPMG India, the country had about 280 million internet users in 2014, with growth largely spurred by the increasing penetration of smartphones (116 million in 2014). The report predicts that India is expected to reach 640 million internet users by 2019.

Additionally, India's total mobile subscriber base is currently at about 970 million, and the 1 billion user mark could be reached by the end of 2015, according to figures from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. India is the second largest mobile market in the world after China which has 1.27 billion users.

  • 09:35 - You're the Worst - Season 2 - Mageina Tovah gets Multi Episode Arc
Worsties, prepare to meet the female version of Paul (Allan McLeod).

FXX's critical darling You're the Worst has cast Mageina Tovah for its upcoming second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Tovah, whose credits include Joan of Arcadia, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder, has signed on for a multiple-episode arc as Amy Cadingle, Paul's nerdy new girlfriend. The character is described as essentially being a female Paul — she's a bespectacled, stringy-haired interpreter for the deaf who is decidedly secure in her oddness. Good-natured and upbeat, she is seemingly impervious to Lindsay's (Kether Donohue) attempts at undercutting her relationship with Paul. She will first appear in the episode titled "Born Dead."

  • 09:30 - Mr. Robot - THR Interview - Creator on the Sony Hack, Antiheroes and the Dangers of Facebook
What episode are you working on right now in the writer's room?

We've broken the whole season. When I wrote the initial script, it was supposed to be a feature. I was maybe on page 90 and I thought, "I'm not even through the first act," so I thought, "I'll turn this into a show then." I knew what the first season was going to be about, so going into it — even before we made the pilot — I knew what the season finale was.

How was it adjusting the project for TV? Was there ever a concern about having to fill in a lot more story if it was going to a 22-episode first season?

I never pitched it like that. … In fact, even if some [networks] offered 13 episodes, I was saying, "No, it has to be 10 [episodes] and maybe four or five seasons max," because there is an ending and we are building towards that ending and I don’t want to deviate from that. I never had that fear because the first season wound up actually becoming what my first act of the feature was going to be.

  12. Amanda Knox based? OH COME THE EFF ON!

It's one thing to do a show about a killer that was without a doubt guilty and locked away for years but in her case this is a few years back. Not enough time has passed to destroy any doubt. And let's not forget that the audience will certainly sympathize with her character turning the entire thing into a big "she wasn't guilty afterall" campaign (no matter how the show is showing it: TV viewers are easy to manipulate)

  13. I remember when i was younger watching a movie about cannibals i think that was even the name, people went to an island and things happened that movie was hard to watch, this one seems good but not that much.
