RUSSELL TOVEY, ALISTAIR PETRIE AND DOUGLAS HODGE JOIN THE CAST FOR “THE NIGHT MANAGER”

Further Acting Talent Join Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Tom Hollander in AMC’s Co-Production with BBC One and The Ink Factory

LONDON – June 19th 2015: BBC One, AMC and The Ink Factory today announced further names for the highly-anticipated television adaptation of John le Carré’s novel, The Night Manager, including Russell Tovey (Banished), Alistair Petrie (Utopia) and Douglas Hodge (The Town).

Co-produced by AMC with BBC One and The Ink Factory, the latest names to feature in the international production join previously announced stars Hugh Laurie (House), Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers), Olivia Colman (Broadchurch), Tom Hollander (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby) and Academy Award®-winning director Susanne Bier (In a Better World).

Tovey is most well-known for his role in BBC supernatural drama Being Human, BBC Comedy Him & Her, ITV’s The Job Lot plus HBO’s hit comedy series Looking where he played a lead for two series. Petrie has recently featured in highly acclaimed drama, Utopia whilst Hodge is currently guest starring in British American horror drama series Penny Dreadful. He has had great success on stage where he has won both Tony and Olivier awards on Broadway and in the West End for La Cage Aux Folles and will direct Pinter's Old Times on Broadway in the Autumn.

Other names previously announced to star in the series include David Harewood (Homeland), Katherine Kelly (Mr Selfridge), Tobias Menzies (Game Of Thrones) and Neil Morissey (Line Of Duty).

A contemporary interpretation of le Carré’s 1993 novel – and the first television adaptation of a le Carré novel in more than 20 years – The Night Manager mini-series will bring together love, loss and revenge in a complex story of modern criminality. The eagerly anticipated series follows former British soldier Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) who is recruited by an intelligence operative named Burr (Colman) to navigate the shadowy recesses of Whitehall and Washington where an unholy alliance operates between the intelligence community and the secret arms trade. To infiltrate the inner circle of lethal arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), which includes girlfriend Jed (Debicki) and an associate named Corcoran (Hollander), Pine must himself become a criminal.

The Night Manager is one of le Carré’s most beloved and critically acclaimed books. A fusion of spy story and tale of organised crime, the novel was a best-seller in the United States and the UK, translated into over 20 languages and selling over a million copies in North America alone.

The Night Manager will be produced by The Ink Factory (A Most Wanted Man), BBC One and AMC for broadcast in 2016. Executive producers are Stephen Cornwell and Simon Cornwell for The Ink Factory, Stephen Garrett, David Farr, and Polly Hill for the BBC. The series was commissioned for BBC One by Charlotte Moore and Ben Stephenson, and Joel Stillerman and Kristin Jones for AMC. The Night Manager is adapted by David Farr (Hanna, Spooks). Rob Bullock (The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Chasing Shadows) will produce for The Ink Factory.

  • 19:35 - Better Call Saul - Interview with Gordon Smith and Jenn Carroll
In this exclusive interview with Breaking Bad Greece, Gordon Smith (writer on AMC's "Better Call Saul") and Jenn Carroll (Vince’s assistant and also an Associate Producer on BCS) were kind enough to answer to all of our 20 plus questions about our beloved shows. More specifically, they talked about the process of reestablishing well-known characters, Sopranos comparisons, bringing back beloved guest stars and many more!

Q : What is your exact role on Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul?
Jenn Carroll : On Breaking Bad, I started out as a Post PA, and then joined the Writers’ Office as Script Coordinator/Writers’ PA in Season 5. When Gordon moved up to be a kick-ass writer on Better Call Saul, I took over as Vince’s assistant, and helped train the new folks we brought onto the team. As we head into Season 2, I’m Vince’s assistant and also an Associate Producer on BCS.

Gordon Smith : By the way no matter what Jenn says, she’s underselling her role. She keeps the train on the tracks in Burbank, both on Breaking Bad and BCS. And I’m currently a Story Editor on BCS.

Jenn Carroll : Thank you, Gordon. That's very kind.

Gordon Smith : I tell it like it is.

Q : What is it like working on an industry that is known for being racist and sexist towards women. How do you deal with that?
JC : One of my favorite things about both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is how many extraordinary women help make the show what it is. On Breaking Bad, we had three amazing female producers: Michelle MacLaren and Melissa Bernstein on the ground in Albuquerque, and Diane Mercer guiding Post in Burbank. They made sure everything ran smoothly across all parts of production, and helped foster a positive, creatively-fulfilling work environment. We also had the brilliant Genny Hutchison and Moira Walley-Becket on our writing staff, as well as so many fantastic ladies on the ground in Albuquerque, like Nina Jack (our 1st AD who is now a producer on BCS) and Jennifer Bryan (the costume designer that recently brought you Jimmy McGill’s delightfully ill-fitting suits). The amazing Sharon, Sherry, and Kiira head up casting in LA and ABQ, and Kelley Dixon is one-half of our pair of insanely talented editors here in Burbank. And – our directors? On BCS, we had three female directors in the first season: Michelle MacLaren, Nicky Kassell, and Larysa Kondracki. They all brought different things to the table, but the two things that were true across the board were: each had a very interesting eye for composition, and all three were wonderful to work with. I could go on and on about the women that I’ve been lucky enough to look up to and learn from here. In my experience, there’s nothing that I, as a woman, feel like I’ve been held back from when it comes to the creation of these shows.

  • 09:35 - Sony And Paramount Are Skipping Comic-Con
San Diego’s lucrative fanboy convention will be missing some key players next month: MarvelStudios, home of the Avengers, won’t be dressing up for Comic-Con while Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures have also decided to skip the Hall H presentations.

“It wasn’t a knock against Comic-Con,” one spokesperson explains, “the film cycles just didn’t allow it.”

Sony and Paramount just didn’t have the fanboy material to promote, said sources, while Marvel, which last missed the confab in 2011, already unveiled its new wave of Avengers at a special fan event in October.

Plus, the cost of sending a number of movies to Comic-Con can set back a studio a few hundred thousand dollars, so “why force the issue?,” one exec asks.

But don’t expect it to ruin the party in Hall H: In addition to the new “Star Wars” and final “Hunger Games,” fans could see the rumored coming-out party for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s Justice League, which features Batman, Superman, the Flash and Aquaman, among other surprises.

Also expected are 20th Century Fox’s “Fantastic Four” and quite possibly a few “X-Men.”

The 46th edition of Comic-Con will be held July 9-12 at the San Diego Convention Center.

  • 09:30 - Emily Tarver, Meera Kumbhani & Fiona Robert Join USA’s ‘Donny!’
Emily Tarver (Black-ish), Meera Kumbhani (Weird Loners) and Fiona Robert(Chicago PD) have booked recurring roles on USA Network’s Donny!, a semi-scripted comedic series toplined by Donny Deutsch that’s described as a satirical look at the media, wealth and modern romance. Deutsch, chairman of ad agency Deutsch Inc. and a regular on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, stars as a fictionalized version of himself: a famed ad man, single dad and TV personality. Production began today in NYC for a late 2015 premiere.

Tarver plays Pam, the no-nonsense Executive Producer of Donny’s daytime talk show donny! who he plucked from obscurity seven years ago and groomed into his show’s EP. Kumbhani is Zoe, Donny’s second assistant, the slacker of the three who’s charged with handling Donny’s social obligations and social media. Robert plays Coco, Donny’s 16-year-old daughter who loves her dad, even if he is an idiot, and is hyper-protective of her little brother.

Also tapped for guest roles are Tina Casciani (Galina), Amin Joseph (Jason), Sean Patrick Gordon (Coach Gordon), Lesli Margherita (Piper), and Sheetal Sheith (Elizabeth). Christie Brinkley is also set for a cameo.

  • 06:40 - Game of Thrones - Season 6 - Costume Designer Not Returning
Michelle Clapton won two Emmys for her work on the HBO hit.

A lot of people departed Westeros in Sunday's season five finale of Game of Thrones — and now there's one more: costume designer Michele Clapton, who exits after five seasons.

The two-time Emmy winner stated this in an interview with Fashionista.com. "I feel like I've covered all bases now. It was really important to me," she said "knowing that I was going to leave, to actually design costumes for each [geographic] area [of Westeros] so it's complete. In my head, anyway, it's a complete look I left.”

Clapton gave Cersei (Lena Headey) and the other Lannisters a gold colored palette, to match their wealth and royal status. Daenerys Targaryan (Emilia Clarke) arrived in Meereen in blue gowns — but in season five, switched to white and pale grey, as a way of "removing her from reality." The costumes for Dorne were colorful, feminine and chiffon — and for the Sand Snakes, purposefully sexy. Sansa Stark's (Sophie Turner) looks are all dark and brooding - except her wedding look, which mirrored the royal norther way her mother Catelyn Stark dressed.

Looks like season six will have a new look — along with its new plotlines. Shooting on season six of Game of Thrones starts in July in Belfast.

HBO did not respond to a request for comment on Clapton's departure.

  4. I like Maria Bamford but I don't know if she has the chops to carry a show.... I'm willing to give her a shot though.

As if The Night Manager needed anyone else in their cast with Hugh Laurie and Hiddleston... but they keep on adding good peeps on there.

That's quite a few key studios and companies skipping out on SDCC now... know they say it's not a dis to the convention and it's just schedules not aligning, plus budget issues, and it's not that I think these reasons are 100% bogus, but I do wonder if something else might be up too...

Proof: Will we get a near death experience in the OR in nearly every episode? I'm not a fan of that...

Didn't GoT lose their Production Designer last season? (or was the back in S3...?) Anyhoo... I don't think you'll see that much of a change since the show has in fact covered most of the geographical regions, so it will be more of a maintenance issue from now on.
