Hannibal - Cancelled by NBC *Updated - Passed by Amazon*

23 Jun 2015

Update: 23rd June Thanks to Jovan for the heads up that Amazon has passed on the show.

Update: 22:29 Here is an update from the Production Company.

NBC has cancelled Hannibal after 3 Seasons.

The network has canceled Bryan Fuller's Silence of the Lambs prequel series after three seasons.

“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers," Fuller said in a statement. "Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure. HANNIBAL is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

Added NBC in a statement: “We have been tremendously proud of ‘Hannibal’ over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television — broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made ‘Hannibal’ an incredible experience for audiences around the world.”

  1. Amazon will and better save it.

  2. with these numbers: duh

unfortunate, I'm really hoping for the show to end on a satisfying note

    ReplyDelete
  3. My heart literally sank at this news :( Hannibal is one of the most innovative shows I have ever had the pleasure to watch and Bryan Fuller has been top-notch at what he created and expanded on the source material. Fuck you, NBC. Here's hoping that the show will live on elsewhere *crosses fingers*

  4. stage #3: bargain

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm going to say its getting picked up elsewhere - Amazon Prime being the logical network. Fuller's statement specifically mentions it being Hannibal's last meal at NBC but that doesn't necessarily mean its gone for good. Its always seemed like they have a back up plan.

  6. I would be shocked if Amazon didn't pick it up.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Same, Fuller always seemed very confident in the future of the show despite the terrible ratings. I don't think that confidence is misplaced. Amazon picking the series up would be a big critically acclaimed series for them - they only really have that with Transparent right now.

    ReplyDelete
  8. There is no way this show will not be picked up by someone else. If anyone disagrees, MEET ME OUT BACK AND SAY IT TO MY FACE!!!! Hehe

    ReplyDelete
  9. Very true and all of us were confident someone would pick it up as well.

    ReplyDelete
  10. So sorry for the fans of this show. I still need to check it out, but I hope it gets picked up elsewhere as I know the creators had a series plan in mind and would be a shame to just end it mid-way through that plan. Nothing worse than investing this much time into a show to have it end abruptly. My fingers are crossed for you guys!

  11. So sad for the fans. I saw on many portals how passionate they are with the show, but the numbers screamed Cancellation.

I going to guess that aquarius will be renew

    ReplyDelete
  13. Doubt it, seems like NBC is making place for Duchovny and Anderson to do more X-Files

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah Amazon Prime makes the most sense considering the show has a deal with them. I'm really hoping they make an announcement very soon. Dammit, this news just ruined my day.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Netflix? Drop the Full House reboot and save THIS!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Netflix has no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I know everyone always says Netflix for cancelled shows but they don't own the streaming rights to the aired seasons, Amazon Prime do and so are far more likely to save it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Netflix step in please!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Never watched the show but I do feel a little bit of sad for the fans about this. It had a very loyal fanbase as far as I'm concerned, I guess NBC just wished there were more in it. It's sort of a slap to the face that the season just kicked off and the network throws this at the fans despite promoting it as a high critically acclaimed show.

    ReplyDelete
  20. they saved Ripper Street, so the idea of amazon prime being on board with that isn't illogical.

But the simple truth is: there're so many shows that get cancelled each year that those that do survive are the minority. The possibility is there obviously BUT the chances aren't as big as everyone hopes.

    What I'm saying: remain realistic

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's perfect for Amazon Prime. I was abandoning ship but that doesn't mean it isn't a beautifully done show. If they don't pick it up, I really need Mads Mikkelsen to find a new show, ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Amazon has already shown interest in renewing the show if ever cancelled by NBC and they already have the streaming rights to it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If it makes anyone feel any better, I found this tweet really hilarious haha. C'mon Food Network! Save the best cooking show on television ;) https://twitter.com/TVMcGee/status/613089970975158272

    ReplyDelete
  24. Agreed that a lot of cancelled shows go through this but there has been hints for a while abut Hannibal finding a home if NBC ever cancelled it so I do really think it has a better chance than most. I say this don't a delusional fan because I've actually fallen out of love with the series a lot but just as someone who follows a lot of TV critics on Twitter who also think it has a better chance than some others.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dude, you've told me a few weeks ago that Hannibal isn't going to get the can so I'm obviously going to say: try to remain somewhat realistic. I get that it's sad to see your favourite show biting it but blind enthusiasm is only going to end crushed if all ends bad

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mads definitely needs a new brilliant show if Hannibal isn't saved and Hugh as well. Hell the whole cast is wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh my god hahaha that would be amazing. Hannibal could crossover to some of their other shows.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Only if Hannibal gets to wear a "best cook ever" shirt

    ReplyDelete
  29. Seriously? I didn't think Hannibal would far to a 0.5 that quickly. I feared Hannibal would be cancelled after seeing the dismal ratings. It needed a 0.7 or above all year to be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hopefully Amazon will pick it up. Really want to see the full story Fuller wants to tell.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Seconding every word of this post. I always feel for fans of TV shows when this happens.

OWWWWW THIS HEARTS SO MUCH AND WE PROBABLY WONT GET A ENDIN

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh but of course! I wouldn't want it any other way.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If it is not saved by another network...

    ReplyDelete
  35. NETFLIX. This is perfect for you. Pick it up. Pick it up.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I get that but I think some grip on reality is in order :)
I mean, maybe at some point Hannibal comes back and maybe it doesn't. Currently the odds are 10/90. That 10 is only there because amazon appears to be interested.

I'm hoping for the show to get a final fourth season obviously but I wouldn't be too sure of it

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's perfect for AMAZON

    ReplyDelete
  38. If Amazon would renew it (I would be really surprised if they didn't, they would give what Fuller wants. 6 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  39. LoL! Love this!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm in shock. The ratings were always terrible, so I thought it would just keep getting renewed. On the other hand, I've been falling out of love with the show for 2 seasons now, so I'm not completely devastated. Maybe someone can still pick it up? I dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  41. A Bryan Fuller show finally makes it to season 3... and gets cancelled :(.
No surprise given its ratings, but still sad. Hopefully everything will be tied up by the end

    ReplyDelete
  42. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
    This can't be happening!

    ReplyDelete
  43. According to the Untempered TV podcast, Fuller said at ATX in Austin the plan is to now do 5 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It will be saved.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I actually do watch some shows on the Food Network and oh my god the possibilities of him going on different cooking/competition shows are endless. For example, seeing Hannibal go in front of a panel of judges and critiquing his culinary skills to be the best at what he does. If he ever gets eliminated, he could just eat the judges for being rude because as he always says, "eat the rude" ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think that AXN, which holds part of the rights to the title and distributes it internationally may still want to continue the series.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hope so but i'm not hopeful.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm very hopeful and would be really surprised if it wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm sorry for the fans :(. though I've seen a lot of comments on various threads like "screw you NBC, you wanted it to fail." and that has always confused me - why would NBC want their show to get crappy ratings? random thought for the day. really sorry for the fans though, heard it was a great show

    ReplyDelete
  50. No Haugh Dancy on my television! Sobbing hard :(

    ReplyDelete
  51. Will Gaumont want to continue to produce Hannibal if Fuller is not the day to day showrunner for season 4? Will Amazon want season 4 of Hannibal for the exact same reason? Will the show have the rights to Clarice Starling for season 4? I think these are reasonable questions that work against the show being renewed for a 4th season.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Okay, this hurts. Even though I know how low the ratings are, it's very sudden and it really hurts. I won't dare to hope for Amazon to pick it up. Even Bryan Fuller sounds like he's ready to move on. I'm certainly not. I am disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  53. An executive producer of Hannibal just told Buzzfeed that they are "exploring other distribution options with our creative team and our partners at Gaumont Television.” I'm confident that Amazon Prime will pick the show up in the next few days or so. http://www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/nbc-has-canceled-hannibal#.wd2EKRJqp4

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm very confident Amazon Prime will save it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well that just proves what we already knew - NBC really doesn't know good TV :(

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh just realised this now means I watch zero NBC shows, once Must See TV.....now nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You sound like a broke record, Jesus.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just The Blacklist and the upcoming Blindspot for me now.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You don't know how badly i want this news to be true.Hannibal got cancelled before American Odyssey? Come on!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Don't forget AD

    ReplyDelete
  61. Figured they would but nice to get confirmation

    https://twitter.com/TVMoJoe/status/613095386916392960

    ReplyDelete
  62. I watch Blacklist but season 2 was not close to good, though it ended on a strong note. Wavering about watching season 3. Will check out the Blindspot pilot and maybe Heroes, but there is not anything else that I currently watch on the channel. Heard good things about Game of Silence (midseason drama).

    ReplyDelete
  63. No point pulling it now but as u said, nice to see it get confirmed nevertheless.

    ReplyDelete
  64. NBC is being rude. You know what happens to the rude.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Blacklist Season had its up and downs. In the end, it was only pretty good. Season 1 was much better.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The more i think about it,the more pissed i get.Iwas having such a great day, then BAM!! Who wants to hear their fav show got cancelled 3 A.M in the morning?!? Jesus!

    ReplyDelete
  67. The only show on amazon that has made it beyond more than one season is Alpha House if I'm not wrong.

I'd be glad with one season, don't bite the hand

    ReplyDelete
  68. It's actually really hilarious how NBC used to be this powerhouse of a network just a couple of years ago. Now look at where they stand...

    ReplyDelete
  69. https://twitter.com/Snoodit/status/613095754312216576

    ReplyDelete
  70. eh? Then just replace her character with a new female or just use Will in her place

    ReplyDelete
  71. When I said "not close to good" I was really saying that I thought season 2 was pretty bad overall. The final two episodes were a strong way to end the season, and the Superbowl episode was a quality episode, but there were several really bad episodes that I almost turned off the TV.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Why not Netflix? You mean because it's deep thought provoking nature is not conducive to binge watching? Well, Netflix is experimenting with an episode a week format too.
I don't really care who picks it up as long as it's saved and does well. Amazon doesn't have nearly as much exposure as Netflix though.

  73. Goodbye Revenge, ∞x∞22 June 2015 at 22:33

Feeling so bad for all this shows fans right now. I know it has a huge fan base here at STV and its horrible that it's been canceled. Hopefully the show is picked up by a different network.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Same here. I was having a great day, came here for some interesting news and suddenly... I don't remember being so devestated by a cancellation in at least 5 or so years.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Apart from the final 2 episodes, the 2nd half was a mess from Episode 11 onwards.

    ReplyDelete
  76. What if MGM picked it up, then they would have the rights to Silince of the lamps?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Click your heels together three times and say 'Amazon, will pick it up'

    ReplyDelete
  78. what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk *cries in a corner*

    ReplyDelete
  79. NBC did more than its fair share for Hannibal. Blame peoplw who didn't watch instead.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Talk about an ambush! This really sucks man.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Lambs, not lamps lol

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think because Amazon has streaming rights.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That makes no sense at all.

    ReplyDelete
  84. watched it once or twice not on a regular basis. Sad

    ReplyDelete
  85. Wow, this is a surprise. Ratings weren't a factor for renewal before, so they shouldn't be now.

The only justification that I can come up with is NBC is seeing the ratings for American Ninja Warrior, America's Got Talent, and even I Can Do That! and thinking that they are going all unscripted in the summer. Any scripted options will be in season or abandoned.

    ReplyDelete
  86. They cancelled this amazing show for this? WTF?!?

    ReplyDelete
  87. MGM doesn't have a single share in any TV network. Also they had giant financial problems in the past no way they could afford a whole production

    ReplyDelete
  88. NBC has always been a bunch of butt heads

    ReplyDelete
  89. I believe that source is wrong

    ReplyDelete
  90. I still watch SVU but S16 was such a letdown I might not stick with it now that Danny Pino left. Will mean I won't watch anything NBC either :/ Well maybe Aquarius but I dunno the status of that show?! I will be checking out Blindspot though. But right now I'm still in the "NBC suck"-phase ;)

    ReplyDelete
  91. I wouldn't be surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  92. amen.

season 3 was a nice gesture already

    ReplyDelete
  93. NBC cancelled the show because of ratings, but I can see Gaumont (the company that actually pays to produce the series) being less enthusiastic about a season 4 without the Clarice Starling character, especially now that they have to find an American partner willing to pay what NBC was paying to license the show.

    ReplyDelete
  94. It kinda does. The 7 season plan was "three seasons of original content, three seasons adapting the books, one season to wrap up the plot". If you're missing one of the central characters to the series, what could you do?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Personally I went the other way. I felt 2A was just all over the place and 2B, with a couple of exceptions, turned things around.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Zachary Rarick22 June 2015 at 22:39

Boycott NBC! What a dumb messed up mistake. The show has such a great fan base! Suck me NBC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I can see that. Why can't MGM just give the god damn rights?

    ReplyDelete
  98. That's only in US. Netflix streams it around the world.

    ReplyDelete
  99. YES! #boycottnbc #nothingbutcrap #nbcsucks

    ReplyDelete
  100. By the way the new plan is 5 seasons according to Fuller at ATX in Austin per the Untempered TV podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Because they're almost bancrupt and need a big paycheck for the rights. A paycheck probably too big for NBC/Gaumont to pay for a show with minimalistic ratings

    ReplyDelete
  102. He loves to change it lol. It was 7, then 6, and now it's 5.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Conrad Stonebanks22 June 2015 at 22:42

Damn I'm pissed....those ******** should be thrown out of a window, bowels out.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Chris (NegroyBlanco)22 June 2015 at 22:42

    Rude... :(

    ReplyDelete
  105. First 10 episodes were perfectly fine to me.

    ReplyDelete
  106. not a surprise. imo it was a miracle nbc renewed it at all. hopefully it gets picked up by netflix or amazon

    ReplyDelete
  107. I agree mostly, they had a couple of other good episodes in 2b.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I tried the show and hated it, so I feel nothing with this news, but condolences to the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Now there's a very good chance it'll end up being 3 in reality.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I also thought 2B was stronger than 2A but 2B had the two worst episodes of the series. The Uzbekistan episode made me almost turn off my TV and the T King Earl episode was almost just as bad.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The whole Berlin storyline bothered me lots. After being hyped so much by the show he turned out to be a nothing. And the final 2 episodes before Christmas were just so boring for me.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I actually liked both of those episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Transparent has been renewed for season two.

    ReplyDelete
  114. So did I lol

    ReplyDelete
  115. after emmy buzz

    ReplyDelete
  116. I binge watched 22 episodes of 1st season in 2 days.I repeated the same formula this year. So,for me this 2 year journey was completed in 4 days.Maybe that's why it felt different to me.BTW,I hope that Ressler guy dies next season. The actor playing it is beyond horrible,he has a single expression for all emotions for 2 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Conrad Stonebanks22 June 2015 at 22:47

If no other network picks it up, what would be likelihood of successful kickstarter campaign?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Maybe so.

I think Ressler has improved somewhat at points this year, but not much and not for all that long. Can't see them killing him, though.

    ReplyDelete
  119. you would have a better chance of winning the lottery

    ReplyDelete
  120. That's exactly what i fear. This type of character adds nothing to the show yet survive season after season even their life sometimes hangs in balance.Eye Roll!
Tom,on the other hand is so underutilized.Ryan is just awesome in this role. The writers really are blind.

    ReplyDelete
  121. This^^ I am amazed how much ire there is for Boone as Liz, when Diego Klat(cant spell his name) is the person on the show who cant act. I will admit Boone is not the most dynamic actor either but I think she is effective and the writers dont do her any favors how they write the character.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I used to hate the idea of Tom still being on the show and being in love with Liz, but the alternative of the writers doing a Liz/Ressler romance is vastly more unappealing and I might agree that Eggold is "awesome", he is good in the role.

    ReplyDelete
  123. your comment makes me sad and happy at the same time ... :/

    ReplyDelete
  124. Liz with Ressler.God save us!
I will drop the show that very moment for good.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yep. They didn't need to do that so people blaming NBC ought to look somewhere else. NBC gave it more than a chance to improve business-wise.

    ReplyDelete
  126. ew, the network gotta taste like a bunch of 90 year old white guys....dry and disgusting

    ReplyDelete
  127. I do think 90% of the perceived problems with Boone and Liz is the writers inability to write the character, and a degree of sexism amongst some of the fanbase. Boone to me is effective to good, and her best scenes are with Spader when she gets to act and not have to recite a bunch of BS procedural lines about the case of the week.

    ReplyDelete
  128. What happened?

    ReplyDelete
  129. It's all good now lol.
