Doubt - CBS Recasting Lead Roles for New Pilot

21 Jun 2015

The project is looking to recast both lead roles, played in the original pilot by KaDee Strickland and Teddy Sears.

Written by longtime Grey’s Anatomy executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater and directed by Adam Bernstein, Doubt, from CBS Studios and Timberman/Beverly, centers on Sadie (Srickland), a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who shockingly gets involved romantically with one of her clients, Billy (Sears), who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime. The cast of the pilot also included Laverne Cox, Dule Hill, Dreama Walker, Elliott Gould and Kobi Libii.

  1. I was midly interested in this but it was exactly because of the two leads, especially Teddy Sears. This is too bad. Hopefully now he can return to Masters of Sex

  2. Hopefully this means we will see more of Chisty ( Strickland ) ... and ... in season two of "Secrets and Lies".

  3. Same here. The leads were the thing that made me like the show.

  4. It is a new mystery. I think they should keep the seasons separate, it is better that way I think

  5. I was thinking about this show the other day because I remembered Laverne Cox had been cast in a CBS pilot but couldn't remember if it had been picked up or not.

  6. Doubt they will promote him back or change next season (if there is, I feel that MOS days are numbered) storyline just to make showless actor happy considering his arc was the worst part of second season.

  7. I know it's a new mystery ... but ... I'd still like to see Cornell hunting down leads or following Christy and Abby on her days off. I think it would add tons to the already complex character as well as be some fun Easer Eggs for season one fans.

  8. Really glad to see that Doubt is still in the works. Shame Teddy Sears is gone, but I'm fine with KaDee Strickland's absence -- I've never enjoyed her. The supporting cast is still strong, so hopefully the two new leads will be of the same level.

  9. I'm sure he'll recur throughout the series from here on forward. He just didn't work as a regular character, and I'm pretty sure the producers realized that.

  10. I liked his arc very much though

  11. I dount they promote him back too, sadly because I for one really enjoyed his character's arc last year.

  12. This would be way more interesting if Laverne Cox was in the lead role.

  13. I didn't think his arc last season was as bad as most others thought. I had some fun with it. My problem was that there were too many episodes where Austin simply didn't contribute much of anything. It felt like the writers just didn't know what to do with him as a main character.

The producers seem to like Sears, so I doubt he'll ever go away completely -- his role will just be minimized until there's something pertinent that can be told only through the Austin character.

  14. There was an interview with the producers about it. Why they felt that his arc was strong enough to go on his own and almost be a spin off of the show. I agree with them that it was, but I can understand why others wouldn't. I agree on your prognosis though

  17. ".... a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer... who
shockingly gets involved romantically with one of her clients ..... who may or may not be guilt...." - am I only the only one who finds that description wrong, I mean how smart can she be if she gets involved with a client let alone one who's guilt is in question... otherwise it sounds like a half dozen other shows with similar plots.

  18. It was never ordered to series. CBS is shooting a new pilot with some recastings.

  19. I like them both so I am a bit disappointed by this... depending on who they get I might even lose complete interest in it...

  20. Was this supposed to be a drama or comedy?
