Berlanti takes a hands-on approach to all of the shows in his stable, and over the years has assembled a trusted team to help him execute — Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Ali Adler, among them — which DC Comics chief content officer Geoff Johns jokingly calls his “Justice League.”

“Honestly, I’m so reliant on others,” Berlanti says. “It’s the long-term relationships I’ve had that allow me to do multiple things, because you have a shorthand with these people.”

With a total of six shows now in production — the Debra Messing vehicle “Mysteries of Laura” on NBC, along with the CW’s hits “Arrow” (starring Stephen Amell) and “The Flash” (headlined by Grant Gustin), not to mention his upcoming feature “Pan” (due in October) — he’ll need superpowers of his own to manage his staggering workload.

  1. Really sending a mixed message with that whole,"they're not crossing over anytime soon."

I saw this on reddit. Where is Ollie?

    ReplyDelete
  3. aw poor Oliver LOL

    ReplyDelete
  4. Meh shows them he's probably off somewhere not nearly being killed.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Is it really mixed? they haven't officially said anything against it, or even Blackbirds (Titans), so there's a DEFINITE chance that they could cross over.

    ReplyDelete
  6. No they have. Berlanti, and the CBS president have said it won't happen soon.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah "soon" not EVER so there's definitely a chance, even Stephen Amell didn't deny wen asked on the possibility on crossovers between Supergirl (that trailer was strange but still seeing the show) and Blackbirds.

I don't know when this photoshoot took place but I assume Stephen was too busy. He pretty much went from The Tonight Show to the convention circuit with a brief stop for the CW Upfronts. Now I think he's in the UK doing the convention circuit there.

Grant and Melissa aren't as busy as Stephen is...yet.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It won't happen in season one most likely.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No one is as busy as Stephen.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That must've been tiring. I heard Jared was all depressed after going to a convention.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah probably not, after all Supergirl needs to set up their world

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not DC but how is the animated Guardians of the Galaxy TV Show not part of the MCU if the show takes place after the movie? It's very confusing

    ReplyDelete
  14. Christopher DeBono19 May 2015 at 07:37

The movie is in 2 continuities. The events happened in the MCU and veer off in one direction while the same events happened in the MAU and veered off in another direction.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wow well that's just plain weird LOL, thanks

    Anytime :)

I'm still trying to work out when Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. takes place (I think it's in the future?). Plus the producers have mentioned that Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes is also in the continuity which just adds a whole bunch of other problems...but explains how everyone knows who Ultron is...

  19. Oliver is busy cosplaying as Casey Jones with a hockey mask.

    ReplyDelete
  20. What they're doing to Arrow is child abuse at this point :(
I'll choose to believe that Arrow is not included because Stephen is busy.
At least they didn't include LoT.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you look at it Arrow's the older sibling and Flash is the newborn baby, then The Flash'll be the middle child after LoT

    ReplyDelete
  22. Berlanti is a buzy buzy man. Arrow, Flash, SG, TMO Laura, Blindspot and LoT.
It's a neat cover. Can't wait for tonights Flash episode.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Flash will continue to be a spoiled child. It's the CW's number 1 show. This continues lack of promoting Arrow is really disrespectful to Stephen and the fans who stood by the show during the mess that was season 3B (except for a few episodes).
Honestly I think the only reason LoT was not featured is because it's an ensemble show with several big names. There is no way of choosing only one character/actor to represent it without causing trouble.

  24. STOPtheMADNESS19 May 2015 at 08:42

I don't think they could at this point. In SG's world they show pictures of Superman. Youd think one of the people on the Flash or Arrow would've mentioned a flying alien;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. STOPtheMADNESS19 May 2015 at 08:44

I agree. I think season 3 was awful, but I'm still here;) Arrow started it all, you'd think he'd get a little respect.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just because they don't mention it doesn't mean it's not there

    ReplyDelete
  27. STOPtheMADNESS19 May 2015 at 09:23

It would just be weird that the whole world knows about Superman, but nobody has ever mentioned it on either show. Like Iris, for example. She investigates meta humans, but hasn't mentioned the most powerful well known one? It would just be hard to explain.

    ReplyDelete
  28. In the Season 2.5 comics Oliver mentioned Superman to Helena and she asked what's a superman and Oliver said it's an inside joke. Marc was probably just joking around but everything that happens in the tie in comics is cannon. So if Helena doesn't know what "a Superman" is then it's safe to say he doesn't exist.

    ReplyDelete
  29. There wouldn't be any of this if it hadn't been for Arrow's success and its fans always talking about it and its universe.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lol. That's true. Unless it's some kind of tie to Crisis on Infinite Earths (as hinted by the red sky crisis in Eobard's newspaper) and somehow the Earth's fuse forming a new one, or Barry with the help of Cisco/Vibe crosses universes. Or no one cares. Kinda hope it's the last one since that'd be funny.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Berlanti does have a golden touch and is very buzy. I am already watching Arrow and Flash. This season I have 3 of his new shows in my list. The only one I am not interested is Laura. Keep up the great work Mr. Berlanti.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Arrow was mentioned several times in the article itself. I am sure of Stephen was available they would have included him in the photo shoot. Stephen is too busy now with TMNT2 and his cons. But CW's disregard for Arrow is really grating.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You're probably right and I wouldn't be this upset about this if it wasn't just the latest injustice done to Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  34. CW clearly treats Arrow unfairly when it comes to promotional dept. But I had no issue with the above article. They gave the respect Arrow deserved in that. I am sure that photo shoot must have happened in LA and Stephen was extremely busy in New York. The poor guy hardly gets to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  35. See logically I know all that, it's my heart that has a hard time catching up.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My original comment got deleted. Really? Was it that offensive?!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I get it Koks. I get it. Had they not mentioned Arrow in the article I would have been pissed. But that was a good article spanning Berlanti's whole career.

I am already struggling with Arrow withdrawal and I can't even haunt tumblr because tumblr is going through fandom meltdown and ugliness early this hiatus. I want new spoilers to discus :'(

    ReplyDelete
  38. Koky!!! Mind your language young lady.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah sorry about that. I just can't stop cursing and making inappropriate jokes.

  40. You guys are reading into this way too much. CW heavily promotes Arrow as much as it does Flash, so it is EXTREMELY unfair to fault the network in that regard, and Arrow gets its fair share of coverage from other media. But the truth is that Flash bumped CW up to the next level, so other media will focus more on Flash than any other CW show; and Supergirl has the potential to attract the much-needed newer younger core audience to CBS, which is why the focus is on that show.

But to say that Arrow gets slighted by other media is not an honest assessment of reality. Amell is constantly in the entertainment news and the overwhelming bulk of it is Arrow coverage. This site, TV Line, ET Online, and other online media sites give as much Arrow coverage as Flash. In fact, the argument COULD be made that the DC (and CW specifically) superhero shows get disproportionally greater coverage than other network's hit shows. Barely a day goes by when there isn't at least one Arrow or Flash media story or video. Agents of Shield doesn't get that kind of coverage. Daredevil, which is critically-acclaimed by media and fans alike, doesn't get that kind of coverage. The #1 show Walking Dead doesn't get that kind of coverage.

My guess is that CW and the Arrow family are very happy with the media coverage they receive, and if Supergirl explodes the way Flash did, that will increase the coverage Arrow gets as well as any show based in the Flarrow Universe.

    ReplyDelete
  41. No. CW in no way slights Arrow, in any form. It promotes Arrow equally as much as it does Flash. We normally agree on a lot of issues, but not on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Much larger SFX budget on CBS, and CBS needs to start attracting a younger audience. Win-win for all parties involved. The showrunners already have stated that they couldn't afford to do the show if not on CBS.

    ReplyDelete
  43. In tone, I agree, it does. But budget wise there is no way they'd be able to afford it...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I disagree with you completely. Clearly we'll never see eye to eye on this issue so let's agree to disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's exactly my problem. They are promoting the already over hyped shows and ignoring the shows that need more attention.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It looks like Berlanti really wants to mix Supergirl into the Flarrow world. CBS is full of morons. Just being part of a "join universe" makes the show even more apealing. Right now i'm on the fence about watching the show; being part of Flarrow would make me change for "not interested" to "will watch the first half of the season".

I think it will end up crossing over at some point. It's kinda stupid considering it's from the same producers. If CW and NBC had a chat about crossing over with Constantine, then this is a no-brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If I didn't know better I might think it was a Supergirl shoot that Barry/ Grant photobombed, but....

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think this cover is the closest thing to a crossover that we're ever going to see...

    ReplyDelete
  49. No we won't agree, because there is no proof to back up your unsubstantiated claims regarding the network's lack of equal promotion of the two shows. This one lone week out of the year when Arrow already has ended its season while Flash still has one episode to air doesn't count.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Stephen Amell tweeted that "they asked me, but i was on the wrong Coast."

i was a little sad at the first moment, but after that i was so happy for Greg berlanti. he deserved it and Grant too. his show has the most viewer on the CW.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wow. I really think we should let Supergirl get established in its own right before demanding crossovers with the CW superheroes. It's a near-certainty that Supergirl will do well enough on CBS to warrant a second season. And if Supergirl ends up being a hit for CBS, does anyone really think the network would resist a crossover episode with ANY of the CW superheroes — especially Arrow and/or Flash? The 18-49 demo ratings for that episode would be through the roof, and that's what CBS ultimately cares about. Ratings, ratings, ratings, and the potential rising advertising fees that go with them.

The second Supergirl promo (which currently is hard to find online) ditched the pop soundtrack and replaced it with the orchestra opera style common to the Flarrow shows. The crossovers will happen, it's just a matter of how soon after the initial Supergirl season.

I will say that it is very possible that the first (or first few) crossovers will happen on CBS before Supergirl appears on CW. Maybe some Starling City or Central City cameos in National City before a true CBS/CW two-episode crossover.

    ReplyDelete
  52. (Rolls eyes at this cover) Here we go again, using our badass show to help promote another new show.. smh It's just getting sad now. Let Supergirl promote itself. And if it fails so be it, i don't see why he has to be the one to "sweep in and save the day." I swear his head gets bigger by the second.

    ReplyDelete
  53. After watching the promos, it looked worse than i imagined (And i was already deeply on the fence about it, was hoping the promo would change my mind) I'm only giving it a trial run, and i definitely don't want it crossing over in the least bit. Let it stay where it is. I don't want her face in my shows at all. I'd rather it try and be a success on it's own two feet first then coming onto our shows and trying to get a "rise for ratings" after an early crossover. Let's see it Supergirl can make it to season 2 w/o bringing in the "A team" to help them do it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Was Arrow picked up after Ostroff's reign? If yes then the show might not have been picked up if she kept the job.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think if it does well in ratings CBS might get all arrogant and keep it away from crossing over.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Good! Then again, if they didn't do it b/c it's ratings were high, it would prove my point even more. Shrugs. No skin off my back.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I disagree. The amount of 1 min promos and posters released for Flash versus those released for Arrow is evidence enough. But there was no slight towards Arrow in this article. It was about Greg Berlanti and every one of his shows were equally mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  58. That alternate universe you speak about where Arrow and the Flash get equal treatment sounds really nice.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Im sorry who is ostroff?

    ReplyDelete
  60. The old President of CW. She likes shows about rich white girls that's why she tried to kill both Smallville and Supernatural by putting on Fridays. Supernatural survived though.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Lol oh well that explains a lot about the old CW shows then! But I think it might have been in development when she was still there because I rememeber everyone thinking it was gonna have the same green arrow as smallville but it didn't run until that Peter guy took over
