We are officially in the series pickup stage of pilots season as NBC today kicked things off with orders to Chicago Med, Blindspot and Heartbreaker. Other frontrunners may soon follow suit, like Minority Report at Fox, the Jenna Bans drama at ABC and Cordon at the CW. Here is one final roundup of pilot buzz ahead of the onslaught of series orders (and passes) next week.
Even with the three series orders, I hear the NBC drama field is still wide open, with multiple other pilots in contention. That includes The Player, which, along with Blindspot and Heartbreaker, received a permission from the network to begin staffing earlier this week. Also said to be in the running are Warrior and Game of Silence, with Silvio Horta’s The Curse of the Fuentes Women as well as Love Is a Four Letter Word also having a shot. With today’s 3 orders NBC already has six drama series on tap for next season, including the straight-to series Shades of Blue and Emerald City as well as the event series Heroes Reborn, slated for fall.
The most attention at the CW is going to Julie Plec’s Cordon and the Tales From the Darkside. And of course the Arrow-Flash spinoff series, which has a 3-minute presentation ready for the upfronts.

Tales from the Darkside seems like quite the underdog for CW.
ReplyDeleteHow is Julie plec's show still a priority for CW?!?
ReplyDeleteI hope it's correct since I prefer Tales of the Darkside over CDS.
ReplyDeleteSame here.
ReplyDeleteCDS sounds like a interesting show. I want CW to give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteThe Curse of the Fuentes Women is a sure thing right? It sounds like iot could be good.
It's not her idea. She stole that from the Belgians. ;-)
ReplyDeletehahahhaah
Seems like this seasons JtV.
ReplyDeletei cant wait for supergirl to be officially picked up!
ReplyDeleteWith all this crazy shit going down, I wouldn't be surprised if CW picks up all their pilots. Such a mess.
ReplyDeleteSuddenly ToD work? I don't see how it will fit CW but okay.
I'm shocked-Said no one.
ReplyDeletemaybe, they'll air tod in the summer.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have enough slots to pick up more than 3 pilots max.
ReplyDeleteI got a feeling they will give CDS primetime attention and put it behind the Flash. Tuesday's 9pm is quite male skewing the show could work there just like iZombie.
ReplyDeleteAs Charlie just wrote they needs to push something to summer, and wouldn't be surprised if it's ToD and the male Ghost Whisperer.
ReplyDeleteI think I could like Cordon, mostly because of CW but don't know how messy/romantically challenged JP will make it.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a try only coz of Chris wood.
ReplyDeleteToD might be for mid-season slot along with the spin-off.I think Cordon & CDS will premiere in the fall.
ReplyDeleteTOD was suppose to be 30 mins summer show. Me personally I'd move Reign and T100(maybe Fridays if Fall) to summer.
ReplyDeleteSo many vague statements about ABC and what it will pick up, besides Shonda and Jenna nothing seems sure.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 should premiere in the place of the flop newbie fall show.
ReplyDeletenoup it will feature 2 tales pro episode so it's an hour long drama.
ReplyDeleteThey are always vague.Everything about them-Renewal,cancellation,pickups-Has to be a freakin' mystery.LOL!
ReplyDeletehttp://deadline.com/2013/11/cw-eyes-tales-from-the-darkside-reboot-with-alex-kurtzman-bob-orci-joe-hill-633930/
ReplyDeleteThat is the most likely scenario. I even think the spin off will maybe get a late premier to headline summer, cause it could really work for the show.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see that 3 minute introduction trailer.
I'm very excited for that trailer too.
ReplyDeleteThat news is from 2013. Look up some news about when it got picked up they stated that it will be hour long. At least that was the plan back then.
ReplyDeleteI know it's an hour long show. What I'm saying is it was supposed to be a 30 mins show back then. I mean it took them 2 years to get it going.
ReplyDeleteAnd I freaking hate it.
ReplyDeleteReally doesn't serve them well. But this season only Revenge faith was up in the air, everything else is pretty much clear where it will go.
Ohhh okay. I misunderstood U. Sorry! ^^
ReplyDeleteAt least Quantico was mentioned lol.
ReplyDeleteI;m rooting for the Muppets!
ReplyDeletePity mention. It has no chance practically.
ReplyDeleteI know haha.
ReplyDeleteHey, it maybe the dark horse this season. Did anyone really see Manhattan Love Story being picked up last year?
ReplyDeleteI'm think it flop if they put behind Flash. iZombie had DC fans and Veronica Mars fans watching it.
ReplyDeleteI think the cast is weak.
ReplyDeleteI am only here for Priyanka Chopra.
ReplyDeleteIt is very vague, besides Cordon I don't see a show that maybe could work after TF and even that is quite vague.
ReplyDeleteSo I think they will risk it and put CDS after it. If it flops they can put The Messenger reruns instead of it. ;-)
And that should have not been picked up.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a different topic, but my point is that even pilots which have no "buzz" can get picked up.
ReplyDeleteVery true.
ReplyDeleteI was so looking forward to seeing her.Sigh!
ReplyDeleteIf Cordon can keep some of the Flash's male viewers then it might be a good idea and since it's a Plec show it might be able to attract female viewers. iZombie has the problem of being unable to retain the Flash male viewers(I think it only retains 28%male vs 72%female) but being a female skewing show helped it survive being up against Shield.
ReplyDeleteI sorry to say it but The Messengers in done for after this season.
ReplyDeleteI really want kingmakers and lucifer to get picked up but both haven't been mentioned :(.
ReplyDeleteThe flash male viewers will run fast enough when they see a Julie plec show coming up after their show.
ReplyDeleteHahahah
ReplyDeleteI know it was just kidding.
Both have no buzz according to various websites.
ReplyDeleteI think it may attract some casual male viewers if it's more about survival like TWD but being dark didn't help T100's ratings.
ReplyDeleteThat is the issue there. A male skewing show could just flop against Shield and NCIS NO (probably, doubt they'll move it). And the first weeks the show has to go up against the Voice, so tough choice for CW.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what they put in there it'll have a tough job to retain audience or gather new one.
I think Kingmakers is gonna be that surprise pick-up... I also think Quantico will get picked up along with The Catch, the Jenna Barnes project, the SHIELD spin-off, with LA Crime and Of Kings and Prophets for summer.
ReplyDeleteYeah I know. I won't be that sad about lucifer like the comic but the changes don't sound so good, but I really want kingmakers to get picked up. Its my revenge replacement.
ReplyDeleteWhatever ends up with the show, one thing i'm sure of-There will be a tiring love triangle at the center of it all.
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't see either getting picked up.
ReplyDeleteLucifer pilot turned out badly unfortunately. Kingmakers is a long shot.
ReplyDeleteKingmakers being called Revenge 2.0 is not a good sign for me. I think after Gotham's ratings fell, they're having doubts with Lucifer.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised that that it turned out bad.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised by lucifer and I'm hoping for that long shot lol.
ReplyDeleteMuch like most of her shows I bet it will have a decent S1, and then things will go to hell in S2 onwards...
ReplyDeleteMaybe the creators will learn from their mistakes?
ReplyDeleteAs everyone should!
ReplyDeleteAw, bummer for Lucifer... I had my hopes high for that one...
ReplyDeleteThis pilot season has just been so confusing...
ReplyDeleteI am very disappointed right now. Cheerleader Death squad is my most anticipated pilot but it seems that the other CBS show TotD is doing better. I am disappointed and shocked TBH. But i hve to agree TotD can make great pair with Supernatural
ReplyDeleteThere are so many doomsday shows on air she really has to come up with something good. We'll have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteWell I think she's not a good storyteller so personally, my expectations are really low...
ReplyDeleteI saw this comment on an article about Plec.
ReplyDelete"The disease never ravages love! As you'll see rom the plot, this tale
is really about how a girl's life is really isn't complete without a man.
I mean, her mother/aunt/sister dies but still, in end, it's about 'will
the boy like me?'. As the plot fast and repeats it self, and their one
black friend dies every ten episodes, the girls never develop as
characters outside of 'But will he love me? Can I love him? What is he
thinking about right now? Why doesn't he love? I hope I don't get
kidnapped but if I do, he'll save me because he loves. He does love me,
right? But he's a monster, so can I love him. I love him!', while the
guys get storylines about being sad monsters who just want to be sad
men.'
Lucifer needs to be on cable channel not on network IMO, it was the same with Constantine.
ReplyDeleteAnd a few years back Fox developed Locke and Key (which was meant to be an amazing pilot) but never picked it up because really its too dark for network TV.
I'm glad AMC are handling Preacher.
I also prefer cheerleader death squad over tales of the dark side. Some sites say tales has the advantage while some say cheerleader has the edge. Lets hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteWell I think network shows can handle these types of shows but for some reason fox decided to go overboard with the changes which I don't know why they did it. And yes I can't wait for preacher.
ReplyDeleteShe has her good, really good and very bad moments. She is a bit to shipper focused and I hope it won't affect the show to much, cause I really like the cast. But keeping low expectations is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteOn her best day, she doesn't reach good.
ReplyDeleteShe ranks from decent to awful.
I can't be that harsh at her cause I enjoy watching her shows and it would be hypocritical from me to bad mouth her.
ReplyDeleteI just can say that the level harshly dropped since KW left VD and she was lucky that she had good characters to follow up their story.
Well I followed her shows until the writing became insufferable so I do get to be harsh.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't have to mean anything. God knows what CW plans, to do this pick up season. That was what she heard but could go either way.
ReplyDeleteBut maybe just maybe ToD delivered better during the screenings while CDS flopped.
I know this is not final decision or anything, but hearing nothing about my favorite pilot in final Pilot Buzz article is worrying me, hopefully their big plan for summer next year is really big and they will choose almost everything
ReplyDeleteI get it, but I don't drop shows, especially after I follow through season 2. I'm the last person on the drowning Titanic.
ReplyDeleteGotham will be the show I'll drop this season, but will probably binge watch during summer or so.
I get it, I think CW will pull the trigger early and announce pick ups Monday or Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteIt takes A LOT for me to give up. That's why I said she's a bad storyteller. If she can't keep me around for two full years then she can't write a story.
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised for Supergirl move to Sunday 8pm it would be a risk but they finally could make a great Sunday which is young skewing, actually I think its a good idea, and it would kill OUAT in that timeslot.
ReplyDeleteFor NBC they ll probably order 3 more dramas: Game of Slience and The Player and one of The Curse of the Fuentes or Love is 4 Letter Word.
ReplyDeleteI pray you are right about Fuentes Women, i really want to see that show
ReplyDeleteYay Chicago med
ReplyDeleteSurprised about Tales of the Darkside, but it would solve their scheduling needs and give them something compatible to air post flash, as that one sounds male skewing.
ReplyDeleteNbc - Again, I'm glad Blindspot, Chicago Med and Heartbreaker got a series order, though the order of the last two could mean the cancellation of The Night Shift.
ReplyDeleteAbc - I'm pleased to hear The Muppets has risen. Smoke and Mirror is the Abc pilot that inspires me the most. The Advocate has "something going" (if it doesn't get the series order, I'll be sorry for Kim Raver).
The Adversaries (with Terry O'Quinn) isn't even named. I think O'Quinn would be a good add to The Leftovers. I wish Damon Lindelof thought the same.
Cbs - Supergirl on Cbs? on sundays? I'm worried.
Fox - I'm a fan of Steven Spielberg, so I hope he does a good work with Minority Report. I'll continue Under the Dome, despite the fact its second season didn't really enthusiasm me.
The CW - I find Cordon to be interesting, but if Julie Plec will be the only one behind it, the romance part could be ending with being the priority =/
I see potential in Tales from the Darkside, and I can't wait to see the presentation of the spin-off of Arrow/The Flash (will it be called Legends of Tomorrow?).
ccbvbb
ReplyDeleteJust found out Quantico is yet to be screened from Josh safrans instagram.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for blindspot getting picked but not happy it's on nbc.
I hope to God super girl doesn't air on Sunday that's like a death sentence in itself ugh.
Shocked about no buzz on Cheerleaderdeath squad it is by marc cherry i love his shows.
Wow, really? Good to know.
ReplyDeleteYa like 2 days ago josh was busy with making the final cut fingers crossed its good. I thing the concept is brilliant priyanka is also a huge plus
ReplyDeleteLooks like The Muppets is next year's Cristela in terms of the development process.
ReplyDeleteI've been toying around with Supergirl on Sunday and quite frankly I like it better than where I have it now.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Tales from the Darkside is getting attention. I'd like Dead People to get picked up too but that doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it turned out good.
ReplyDeleteIs Deadline trying to say that all three of Heroes: Reborn, Shades Of Blue, and Emerald City is slated for fall? The wording is odd.
ReplyDeleteIf so, then likely Shades Of Blue Mondays at 10 PM, Heroes Reborn Wednesday or Thursday at 8 PM and Emerald City sometime on Friday. Neil Patrick Harris is fall also (probably the other Wednesday or Thursday at 8 PM timeslot).
However, they still need to squeeze in Heartbreakers or Chicago Med as I doubt they will try to launch two medical shows midseason. And that likely only has one option, Thursdays at 10 PM unless they move SVU Thursday at 10 PM.
I think it'll go something like
ReplyDeleteMonday
8:00 The Voice
10:00 Chicago Med
Tuesday
8:00 The Voice
9:00 New Comedy
9:30 Undateable
10:00 Chicago Fire
Wednesday
8:00 Shades of Blue
9:00 Chicago PD
10:00 SVU
Thursday
8:00 Neil Patrick Harris Show
9:00 Heroes Reborn
10:00 The Blacklist
Friday
8:00 Dateline
9:00 Emerald City or Warrior
10:00 Grimm
No, only Heroes: Reborn
ReplyDeleteSupergirl Sunday at 8 PM will not fit in between 60 Minutes and either Madam Secretary or The Good Wife. If CBS does put it there, it's a Three Rivers situation all over again where it was completely misplaced and quickly cancelled.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised For Justice has not gotten more of a mention. This series would be very timely right now and it fits right in with where CBS wants to go with their Sundays. To me, it's their easiest pickup outside of Limitless.
Not surprised the Criminal Minds spinoff is labeled as having "a shot". NBC needs multiple spinoffs because it's the only thing working for them. CBS can be more selective. CSI: Cyber is struggling right now in the ratings and the last thing CBS needs is another spinoff that they have to struggle with to make work.
"Even with the three series orders, I hear the NBC drama field is still wide open, with multiple other pilots in contention."
ReplyDeleteIronically enough, this is an exact repeat of a few years ago. When Sony packaged the Blacklist, all the other pieces were stuck in suspension until its results were known.
Basically, it's Game of Silence/The Player/(renewal of The Night Shift) or Fuentes Women and Love is a Four Letter Word. That has to be nerve wracking for producers.
Some shows are just meant to be on cable or streaming services. Network TV can be too limiting at times.
ReplyDeleteComments:
ReplyDeleteNBC: will pick some backup dramas, they already have 7, I bet in two more, some of them for summer or even postponed for 2016. The lack of frontrunners on comedy worries me, I want them to go workplace, but since Outsourced back in 2010, they haven't greenlit a single comedy with this theme and canceled all of them.
ABC: Quantico is popular here on STV, not so much on ABC, The Catch would be an obvious frontrunner to replace Murder on TGIT midseason, Of Kings and Prophets looks like A.D. 2.0, boring. Not excited with their comedies if they are icking a multicam (Dolores and Jermaine) and old skewing Chev and Bev.
FOX: same as usual, Studio City and Rosewood will fight for the post-Empire slot, minority Report will go after Gotham, Frankestein is probably fighting a veteran like The Following for a backup role, on comedies Cooper Barrett is a good pairing for New Girl.
CBS: same old story, strong dramas, awful comedies, forget about Super Cylde, they aren't taking a risk on a single cam, Angel from Hell could go after TBBT since it's an in-house production, thy are definitely picking Limitless, Supergirl on sundays after old skewing 60 Minutes is odd, unless it's going to midseason to be launched by a NFL playoff game and then take a different slot.
CW: well, Cheerleader Death Squad disappeared, Cordon being picked is bad news for Jane.
FOX wants Lucifer to be a procedural, I'm glad it's not a front runner.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, every FOX drama beside Studio City (soap) and Scream Queens (horror drama) is some kind of a procedural, Rosewood is one that looks like your typical CBS show, the other three are procedurals dressed as genre shows, not to mention they want Sleepy Hollow to be less serialized.
Her show is going to send Jane to fridays.
ReplyDeleteI hate that fat face. She annoys me.
Undateable should not be in the fall and Shades of Blue will collapse against Empire.
ReplyDeleteThursday is only "ok" because it will fall apart in the Spring once NPH and Heroes finish their limited orders.
It's tough since it's a WB show. It's up against Cordon and the DC spin-off. Even if it were picked up it would need to get higher than 0.5 to get renewed. If it were a CBS show maybe it woud've been givin a chance.
ReplyDeleteI think the lower rated CW shows, Reign and JTV should do 13-16 episodes. Cordon sounds like a limited series to me as well, 13-16 episodes. Cordon/JTV could time share Mondays at 9.
ReplyDeleteWas CDS already screened?
ReplyDeleteI think it's possible that all 3 will be on the fall schedule.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping Heartbreakers gets pushed to summer because it sounds like an awful concept. The only reason NBC picked it up is because it already has an international deal, and it's NBCUniversal owned. They honestly don't need the series, but it seems that they see it as a potential cash-cow for them if they can drag it to syndication.
As far as Shades of Blue, I would like to see that get the post-Voice slot because I think it has the potential to be next season's HTGAWM. But The Player and/or Game of Silence would probably do well behind the Voice, too.
Chicago Med getting pushed to midseason is smart, but it makes scheduling complicated to say the least.
She annoys EVERYONE.
ReplyDeleteThe desire to make everything procedural just makes me despair!
ReplyDeleteI'm rooting for The Muppets, Cheerleader Death Squad, AOS spin-off, LFE and the Real O'Neals to air !
ReplyDeleteI actually want The Muppets to be ordered, loved them as a child.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, however this is what I think NBC will do. They aren't known for the great decisions. Lol
ReplyDeleteMaybe once the promos come out, I can get excited about something here...Most of ABC's dramas sound way too much like failed shows already. Nothing sounds exciting.
ReplyDeleteCBS has a lot of single cam comedy pilots. They have to consider one of them to be picked up to series. One of the single cams could be of better quality than the multi cam comedies.
ReplyDelete
