UPDATE: New NBC Comedy ‘People Are Talking’ Faces Recasting As It Shares Female Lead With Fox’s ‘The Guide To Surviving Life’

Ah, the dangers of second position casting. There was a lot of good upfront news for former Bring Human star Meaghan Rath today. Just before lunch, NBC picked up to series her NBC comedy pilot People Are Talking. Several hours later, Fox did the same with Rath’s other comedy pilot, The Guide to Surviving Life. Rath plays the female lead in both projects but one of them, Fox’s single-camera The Guide to Surviving Life, has her in first position. That means that NBC’s newly picked up multi-camera People Are Talking comedy will have to recast the role.

Thanks to Laurence for the heads up.

Also as per THR these pilots have been passed over.

  5. Well I was hoping it'd get passed over because I cannot stand Chevy Chase and simply would have been supremely annoyed at seeing his show advertised all summer. Ha.

  6. I'm equally happy that Johnny Knoxville is not getting another 15 minutes of fame.

FOX is dumb, studio city could have built upon Empire and give fox a solid night

  9. Perhaps the finished product simply wasn't as good as they'd hoped.

I'd be shocked if they pair Empire with a show from an outside studio, anyway.

  10. "Rage of all feminists"? Not only women could have watched this show. Everyone should be sad Broad Squad wasn't given a go. The concept alone is more unique than any other procedural on tv. First female graduates of the police academy in 1978 Boston? Could have been a very interesting series.

  11. I'd never heard of the NBA project until now but it actually sounded good, I like the cast.

Dammit Fox! The pilot was probably underwhelming

That's probably why everyone hated it then. I feel dumb, for asking, but what show/movie is Chevy Chase known for? And why does everyone hate him?

  14. Mostly a bunch of slapstick 80s comedies. He was in the Disney movie Man of the House, which is the only thing I've liked him in. He was in Community as well and by far the worst cast member.

I think he's just unappealing to people who aren't that into silly slapstick and he was apparently a jerk on the Community set so I think that's why a lot of people dislike him lately. Maybe someone will chime in and clear it up, for me though, he's just very annoying and very unfunny.

He's been in some classic comedies - "Fletch", "Caddyshack", and the "Vacation" franchise - but he's always had a rep for being difficult.

I'm surprised Chevy wasn't picked up. I wasn't looking forward to it too much, but I like Chevy from SNL and Caddyshack. Here's to hoping some of the other comedies are good.

  39. THR still has both in contention yes, but honestly where is the room for all of this?
