AMC’S “FEAR THE WALKING DEAD” BEGINS PRODUCTION IN VANCOUVER

Network Releases Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Video from the Set of the Pilot

Series Debuts Late Summer on AMC

NEW YORK – May 11, 2015 – AMC announced today the start of production on its highly anticipated new series, “Fear the Walking Dead,” in Vancouver. Additional filming will also take place in Los Angeles at a later date.

A companion series to “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49, “Fear the Walking Dead” is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. Co-Executive Producer Adam Davidson, who directed the pilot, is also directing the second and third episodes. The series’ first season, consisting of six one-hour episodes, will premiere on AMC in late summer.

Also today, AMC.com released an exclusive new behind-the-scenes video from the filming of the pilot episode.

“‘Fear the Walking Dead’ takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of ‘The Walking Dead,’” said Kirkman. “A time when danger was lurking around every corner and the thing mostly likely to get you killed was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you. The stakes are going to be higher and the ride more intense. We're going to show people all the insanity of civilization crumbling that Rick Grimes slept through. Buckle up."

“I could not be more thrilled to be continuing on this apocalyptic journey, dramatizing the horrific disintegration of society through the lens of a dysfunctional family. We've assembled a stellar cast and crew to tell our story -- it's going to be a great ride,” said Erickson.

“Fear the Walking Dead,” which is set in Los Angeles and focuses on new characters and storylines, stars Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons of Anarchy”) as Madison, Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”) as Travis, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Nick and Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) as Alicia. Also joining the cast as series regulars are Elizabeth Rodriguez (“Orange is the New Black”) as Liza and Mercedes Mason (Quarantine 2: Terminal) as Ofelia.

AMC Global, the international AMC-branded television network, will air “Fear the Walking Dead” within 24 hours of the U.S. premiere. AMC Global launched in late 2014 and is available in over 115 countries and territories throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

  3. Funny, AMC's website just said the other day when I looked that Fear would be airing in June.

If they're just beginning production now, then there's certainly very little time for post-production work if they truly intend on airing this before summer ends.

I mean, the mother show started filming last week and that doesn't air until October 11th.

I just find it both scary and funny that nearly all other networks have at least their September-January schedules publically sorted, and yet AMC still doesn't seem to know what they're doing past Halt & Catch Fire's premiere on the 31st of this month.

  5. i believe AMC made the mistake to naming FTWD starting on June 12th when they have another new show called Humans starting on that date....

FTWD is starting on Sun Aug 30th... six weeks before the premeire of TWD on Oct 11th ...☺...

  6. Was Humans ever officially confirmed for June 12th? I keep seeing just June in general listed as the airdate everywhere I look. And up until a few days back, Fear had that same tentative airdate listing. It really feels like AMC just doesn't know where any of their summer shows are going.

  7. Yes, ur right Scott... it seems like AMC doesnt know what the hell is going on, lol... so we have to help them, lol... so it's simple logic... they cant have 2 new show starting at the same time so i guess it's Humans that's starting on June 12th, which falls on a Friday... not a TWD day....

and u have to figure out that AMC's Number show is TWD and they would want the spin-off to start 6 weeks prior to TWD starting so we have a Aug 30th as a start date for FTWD....

but this is only me speculating of course... no dates have been confirmed yet but we know that's cause AMC are more confused then us, lol ...☺...

  8. Ideally, I would've thought they'd start production on Fear earlier, and air it as part of the Independence Day Walking Dead full-series marathon (which is the halfway point between individual seasons of the mothership show), and use Fear as a lead-in for Humans (which would definitely be a great help in the ratings department).

But they've started production on Fear too late. I can't see it airing any earlier than you'd said. Too much work still needs to be done in post-production.

That said, I'm not sure if AMC will branch out to Fridays just yet. I think Humans only has eight episodes? If anything, they'll probably buddy it up with the back episodes of Halt & Catch Fire. Somewhat similarly themed -- make it a techno block...

  9. Welp, Humans has been officially announced as premiering Sunday, June 28th, partnered with Halt & Catch Fire.

  10. Ahhh, Thank You Scott...it's all adding up now... if the show is 8 episodes long then it will end two weeks before FTWD would start.... and plus FTWD wont need to be partnered cause it will have the Live TTD show afterwards ...☺...
