The Originals - Season 2 - EP on That [Spoiler]'s Death and More

Yes, Aiden is really dead—but it wasn’t an easy decision. “We knew off the bat that we wanted to tell a beautiful Romeo and Juliet story between Josh, a vampire, and a werewolf,” Narducci said. “And our goal was to create a complicated, layered person who was put in many dilemmas with regard to his loyalty to the pack, and outside sources putting pressure on him—the difficulty of being a werewolf loyal to the Crescents and dating a vampire, but also his belief that maybe he should be alpha.”

Combine Aiden’s struggles with Dahlia’s arrival, and Narducci said “all these story points kind of collided in a way that the idea really seemed like it would be the thing that would happen—even though every one of us in that room loves Aiden and every one of us is really sad to see Colin Woodell go. He was such an incredible actor, such a beautiful performer and a star in the making. But we felt like that was the best story.”

They did talk about keeping Aiden around. “We had talked about the possibility of [Josh and Aiden] running off together; we had talked about the possibility of one of them being captured and the other having to risk everything to try and save them. We had a bunch of different storylines planned, and I think that this one was really tough,” Narducci said. “We really felt this one in the room. We cared very much for this storyline and for these characters. There is an argument to be made that Josh as a vampire would have someday lost Aiden no matter what [because of Aiden’s mortality].

“Nobody really gets a happy ending. I think what you have to do is live for those beautiful moments as they come, and live in the now, and if that’s the metric by which we judge Josh and Aiden, they had one of the most beautiful and happiest stories of anybody on our show.”

What comes next is Josh’s grief. “He’s wrecked,” Narducci said about Josh, before adding that, no matter how wrecked, Josh isn’t dumb enough to try to take on Klaus in order to fulfill some sort of revenge fantasy. “[His sentiment is], ‘The reality is, no matter how much I’m angry, no matter how much of a vendetta I want to carry out against Klaus Mikaelson, I’m just a couple-year-old vampire and that’s Klaus Mikaelson.’ I think the first thing he needs to do is to wrap his head around how he’s going to recover from this grief.”

Will any of the Mikaelsons doubt Klaus when he takes credit for the killing?
Narducci:
I think it's very believable Klaus would do it, and it's very telling that in that moment that Jackson completely believes he did it. Hayley is shocked, but believes he did it. Elijah believes he did it and still defends him! Nobody is thinking, "Well he was clearly framed." Yet he has confessed the truth to Cami, and once that truth starts to get out, our characters react to the question of who could've done that and why.

Do the siblings believe they can take on Dahlia without him?
Narducci:
That is the million dollar question everyone is struggling with. In the final seconds... [Elijah's] expression of grief and sadness and fear of what [this has] come to is incredible. It is chilling what is going on because that child is certainly in danger and could be taken. They're never going to let that happen, so they're going to stand up to someone who is the most powerful thing we've ever seen in this universe. They're going to have to find a way to deal with her without the most dangerous member of their family.

Hayley asked Elijah to buy her time before he made the move to dagger his brother. Is his plan to simply undagger Klaus once he gives Hayley enough of a head start?

Elijah's plan is to leave Klaus daggered long enough that he can take down Dahlia with Freya (Riley Voelkel) as his ally. Freya and Klaus each told Elijah, "You have to choose."... Elijah decides to align with Freya because she has the expertise, and she knows Dahlia, and she knows that threat. Elijah began to feel that Klaus was a bit unstable. [Klaus] was so desperate to do things his own way, he was putting his own child at risk. Elijah stepped in and took matters into his own hands. In the next episode, we'll hear that Elijah basically thinks, "Once we have aligned with Freya and defeated Dahlia, of course I will undagger my brother. I don't want him to be daggered, but I can't leave him walking around, plotting and manipulating, tearing the family apart, and putting our one chance to [defeat] Dahlia at risk."

In the meantime, what does this do to Elijah, who was already on shaky ground?

There's a moment at the very end of tonight's episode where you can see the pain on Daniel Gillies' face. The pain and the fear Elijah is experiencing – not only has he really broken that vow of standing next to his brother, always and forever, but he is now without his greatest ally at the moment when the danger is at its greatest.

What will Klaus' eventual reunion with his family be like?

You've just seen the first step in how bad it's going to get. It's going to get much worse. When he is undaggered eventually, he's going to be very angry at his family for having done this to him. … The fact that Elijah would be complicit in letting Hayley escape and take his daughter has made him incredibly full of anger and rage.

Cami (Leah Pipes) is the only one who knows that Klaus didn't kill Aiden. How will that weigh on her?

Once she finds out what has happened, she will be aghast and she will want to correct this wrong, but the question becomes, what can she really do? She's got a very interesting storyline in terms of her relationship with the Mikaelson vampires in the next few episodes.

HAYLEY & JACKSON | There’s plenty of wolf-y drama afoot, as they’re “reeling from the loss of the guy who was, in effect, the Vice President,” Narducci says. “Hayley, as a leader, is going to have to work with Jackson to find a way to earn back [the wolves’] trust.” On the romantic end, even though Elijah is clearly still in love with Hayley, his sense of familial duty will prevent him from attempting to split up her marriage. Besides, “over the course of that marriage, she found herself having legitimate feelings” for Jackson, too.

KOL’S RETURN? | Last, but certainly not least, Davina will continue to attempt to bring back Kol. Despite a minor setback — Narducci says there are some “pretty important witch shenanigans going on this week” — Davina will get “one little ray of hope, one possibility of what she might be able to do … in her quest to resurrect Kol.” And, hey, that’s something! (Right?)

  3. The wolves stuffs reads like it will be dreadfully boring as usual.

  4. This will probably lead to it. It's basically the closest he's come to murdering Klaus so hopefully it'll f*ck up right good.

  5. let's hope so, they've teased me enough with the potential of Elijah going insane for good. Time to embrace whackjob Elijah

  6. I don't think he'll be a complete whack job. I think it'll be more like psychotic episodes where he blacks out then slowly leading to him just going insane. I think it could be gradual for a bit. Elijah's all about control and he'll fight it as long as possible.

  7. since the red door being open for a bit I'm kind of hoping that what's behind it will bring forward a whole new version of him. Like Angel/Angelus (the character is basically Angel already, so not too much change there)

  8. Oh that'd be cool.

  9. I really hop Davina figures out a way to bring Kol back. I really liked Kol, he was sneaky and all that but I liked his relationship with Klaus this season, I don't know what it was like before but I liked their dialogue a lot more then Klaus and Elijah.

  10. Oh blow me Michael! And you better not touch one freaking hair on Josh's head!!

No the siblings cannot take on Dahlia w/o him. "But he is now without his greatest ally at the moment when the danger is at its greatest" There in lies the problem.

"I don't want him to be daggered, I but i can't leave him walking around, plotting and manipulating, tearing the family apart, and putting our once chance to defeat Dahlia at risk" But umm Elijah that's exactly what Freya iS doing to you now and you don't even see it. There in lies my other problem. If Freya turns on you iI'm not even going to be surprised. And if Dahlia gets Hope....well you can kiss Hayley and your family goodbye. Smh.

"Over the course of that marriage she found herself having legimate feelings for Jackson." Someone hand me a bucket,I need to throw up. So that must mean Jackson's next on the death list then?? Well then Hayley, carry on...love the dog, so they can put him down. First Davina, now Josh,I don't see why you should get a pass. He's your "husband" after all. I think that having that title deserves a real good death.

I look forward to Cami's arc but she will not be able to convince anyone that Klaus didn't do it. Maybe Marcel...but even I'm a little skeptical about that one.

I don't care if Kol comes back. I didn't care for him. I kinda want Davina to get in the game right now.

  12. you killed the ONE wolf i actually loved and RIPPED apart a family that finally was able to live together. I loved that Narducci mentioned Cami's connection to Klaus!!!!!! yeah the family is definitely defenseless without Klaus, Narducci's definitely right about Daniel Gillies being a world-class actor, i saw EVERY emotion pass through his face. I screamed NOOO!!! when Aiden told Josh he loved him, i knew he wouldn't live through the hour. You better put Hayley and Elijah back together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. I was so sad about Aiden but I had a feeling that he was going to go why could they have got rid of Jackson he is useless to me. I feel so sorry for Elijah he loves haley and Hope and he just wants to protect them I do wish Elijah would not be so easy. I would love to see the bad side of Elijah but not all bad. I think Daniel Gillies can do both a good guy and a good villain. Elijah did not want to dagger Klaus you could tell. They all need to work together and Freya has something up her sleeve

  14. I keep thinking Cami will be the one to undagger Klaus. I hope he turns her one of these days. They have a great friendship regardless of if it goes romantic.

  20. We all expect that they stabbed Klaus, only in the season finale and Klaus spend many years in a deep sleep.

Now with what happened in last night's episode and details that Michael has said in the interviews, my theory has changed and I'm starting to believe that we will have a happy season finale and the cliffhanger will really be Hope’s powers.

Oh well, is what I see, although everything can change.

  21. At this point,Kol needs to come back & Jackson needs to go away.

  24. I second that!

  25. why is it now for Davina so difficult to bring back kol and not Mikael. since she is not in the plot stopping dahlia they're fabricating this kol resurrection I think is not gonna happened.
