  1. Very good episode, but I wish they would have followed the book more closely. One of my favorite scenes from the first novel was the scene from the first night back at Castle Leoch - where Claire and Jamie fight and make up then. However, the episode from the perspective of Jamie was interesting; I loved the scene where they break into the English's fortress. I look forward to seeing more episodes from his perspective.

  2. As usual is was absolutely brilliant! It felt different though watching the episode through Jamie’s eyes and narration, good different :)

The stakes were incredibly high, that crazy Black Jack holding Claire against her will, Caitriona Balfe was fantastic, she needs to get some awards for her performance on this show! That explosion was pretty glorious.

I missed the music and cinematography so much. When the jumped together into the water (the new score sounded marvellous there), riding those horses against the backdrop of the mountains, so many lovely scenes.

The scene between Jamie & Claire after he rescues her is heartbreaking but so powerful, the acting was superb.

  3. Oh dear, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!! I thought I was going to feel uncomfortable with the spanking scene but it was just hilarious, she ended up beating him, that was really funny. OK in order, first of all I felt really frustrated when Jamie decided not to kill Jack Randall he doesn't like to hurt a defenseless man, that's good, but Randall is everything but a man, he's a freaking demon, 2nd, the scene when Jamie breaks down was OK but I'd have liked better if the dialogue had been complete, the one in the book was really touching, but it's OK then, the Mackenzie issue not so interesting to me, to finally get to the sex scene, DEAR LORD they didn't do it for real, did they??, it looked VERY real, but well, again another dialogue I'd have prefer to hear complete or in the way it was,the rip his heart out dialogue, but well, it was OK too, after all they can't please us all, and they're doing a terrific job, like I said the episode was excellent and the preview shows that everything that is coming will be too, so I'm dying to see it all!!.

  4. I hate it when they put 'season' or 'arc' related promos right after an episode. I want the promo for the next episode. Sigh.

So happy the show is back.

When Laoghaire joined Jamie by the water I found myself wondering if the 18th century version of wearing nothing but a fur coat was going to be wearing nothing but a cloak. Turns out it involves at least some clothing. Really like the fleshing out of the thread with Laogharie.

I managed to get through the hiatus without rereading the book (I reread #s 4, 5, and 6 instead) so the timing of Claire swearing she'd cut out Jamie's heart and eat it was a complete surprise for me.

I'm trying desperately not to wonder if there was a standard organized spot for men to...um relieve themselves of did they just pee against whatever wall was handing. (Okay I failed at not wondering.)

    Awesome episode.

  5. Anticipation is just a hard thing to live up to and we've been waiting for so long. I'd forgotten the pacing issues and the disjointed storytelling. I had hoped that telling the spanking and aftermath from Jamie's perspective would have been a positive. But instead it threw it all Claire's way, you didn't get her realization that she was wrong and out of her depth and motivated by irrational anger. I understand wanting to sanitize the story but they went too far and threw the power structure completely in Claire's favor. Instead of coming out the other side equals, Jamie came out emasculated. Which has been a problem all along. Let Jamie be Jamie.

  9. too right Isbloom. I couldn't pinpoint exactly why I was frustrated with last night's episode but you hit the nail on the head! Throughout the episode Claire's brattiness drove me NUTS!

  10. I can't remember a movie making me feel so many different emotions. Everyone's freaking out about the "spanking", I was laughing through it. It was the way things were back then and probably even worse. Ronald D. Moore handled it very well! I have watched that episode alone six times already! I thought the wedding night was the best but this has really out done itself! I love, love, love this series!!!!

  11. I don't know what "brattiness" means, but I think I know what you mean, or what bothers you guys, and that's that Claire did never see the spanking as something rational for the era, am I right??, well, but she understood, even before the spanking she had already agreed to obey Jamie, because she realized that she jeopardized everyone's life by doing what she pleased, so what was the problem??, we got to the same point we get in the book just in a faster way, besides unlike the book in the show Jamie realizes that not always traditions are the right way to act and decided to to follow his logic more than his irrational traditions, that's good don't you think??, well ,it was good for me.

I agree 100%. I thought she was pretty thick and didn't show the right amount of remorse for almost getting everyone killed and alerting the British to Jamie's whereabouts. If she loves him, she could have been more apologetic and concerned rather than indignant. You're right, if she had half a brain she would have know that in that time period women were chattel. I also found it gimmicky that Jamie all of a sudden adopts modern thinking--"I'll never raise a hand to you again." I'm only judging from the tv series, I've never read the books. But, if you're only just watching the television series, then the actress who played Claire doesn't do a very good job making you feel sympathetic towards her predicament. In fact, if she was from the 40's, even then women weren't as liberated as they are today. All in all, it was great on Jaime's part, but the actress who played Claire was a little over the top in vitriol.

  14. She didn't learn that just like Jamie bent to her and swore fealty, that she has to bend to him as well. Even if she doesn't like it. He understands this world, its politics and its dangers. Claire flat out does not. They had to come out equals not Jamie groveling. Claire can say she'd cut out his heart, but this is a man who sleeps with a knife under his head, she could try and she would fail. She still thinks she can do whatever she wants. She can't. She gets people in trouble when she does that.

  15. I assume the spanking scene is the "uncomfortable" scene book readers were alluding to? It certainly was uncomfortable to watch but that was the custom of the time period. I think they dealt with it nicely by adding in humour to break the tension.

I'm just glad the show is finally back!

  16. Yep...among others, but that might be the most controversial scene in the whole book series.

  17. Great episode....I like how they've switched to Jamie's point of view a bit.... Clair didn't realize how such a little thing as taking a walk could have far reaching consequences.... Jamie honestly thought it was his duty as husband to give her the spanking... boy, did he change his mind quick.... Probably the hottest make-up sex I've seen outside of porn....:))
