Daredevil - Renewed for second season

22 Apr 2015

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that "Marvel's Daredevil" will receive a second season, available only on the streaming service in 2016!

With the first season of "Marvel's Daredevil" proving a smash success with both audiences and critics, Netflix and Marvel will continue to create further adventures of the Man Without Fear! Doug Petrie ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "American Horror Story") and Marco Ramirez ("Sons of Anarchy"), who worked closely with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the first season, will serve as showrunners for Season 2. Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods"), and Jeph Loeb ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") will serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season," DeKnight explains, "I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."

"Marvel's Daredevil" is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

"Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones" comes only to Netflix later this year and "Marvel's Luke Cage" premieres on the streaming service in 2016. Future series exclusively debuting on Netflix include “Marvel’s Iron Fist” and “Marvel’s Defenders,” a mini-series event that reimagines a team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

  1. Hell yes! I love the show so much and I am definitely excited for more of it.

Hopefully Rosario will be able to do more episodes because I love Claire and ship Matt/Claire like burning.

  2. Why does the word "Marvel" link to http://www.spoilertv.com/

  3. Oops, going to fix now. Thanks for telling me!

    ReplyDelete
  4. New showrunners? If it's not broke don't fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It seems like he had prior commitments and couldn't do it, which is understandable. Hopefully the new ones will be great!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Woohoo!!! And season 2 is coming in 2016 and not 2017 like we all thought! Though I will miss Steven DeKnight, I'm sure Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be perfect replacements. Can't wait for more Matt Murdock and Hell's Kitchen!

  7. Definitely great news !!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm not happy with the new show runners. I think (just spec) DeKnight has another secret project in the works but still. I hope Marco Ramirez learned more from SDk than Kurt Sutter.

  9. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it returns in 2016 - OOLALA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. also, it seems they are going give JJ a 2015 release!? also, good to here, if true.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yay, gonna be such a long wait though. Hopefully new showrunners can keep the quality the first season had.

    ReplyDelete
  12. JJ was always going to be a 2015 release.

Yay! I watched it last week and I loved it! It's a bummer we have to wait a year though...

    ReplyDelete
  14. This was a given, seeing how well-received season one had been. Now if the people at Marvel would cast Danny Rand already...

    ReplyDelete
  15. well, I read and interview from DeKnight (and NF) saying it wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes!
I wonder if we'll see more of Rosario Dawson.

    ReplyDelete
  17. in 2016?!

    HOLY HELL YESSSS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. she's the night nurse, we'll see her for sure on DD and other shows

    ReplyDelete
  19. He was wrong, then. Marvel has been saying it will be released in 2015 for a while.

    Oh my God!!! Yaaaaaaaas

    ReplyDelete
  21. She said she won't be returning in an interview, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  22. really? Highly doubt they would cast someone as a character that is supposed to be like "every heroes best friend" that isn't hot on staying longer?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Really psyched that the show's coming back, and much sooner than I expected. But really bummed that DeKnight isn't returning as showrunner. He did a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hell yes!🙌👏Been waiting for this news!
Spoilertv.com you're better than Google alerts!

    ReplyDelete
  25. She was only in 3 episodes out of the entire season. If she leaves I don't think it will affect the story much. But I agree. Weird she's not coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  26. isn't Iron Fist the last Netflix shows to premiere (obviously before The Defenders but it's the only one that needs to cast some major character)? Guess they`ll wait until Jessice Jones is out

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hell yess!! 🙌🏼 first FULLER HOUSE on NETFLIX now Season 2 DAREDEVIL!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. ...and in 2016! I was worried they were going to run the other Marvel shows first.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 4 or 5 actually, she had a fair share of scenes if I remember correctly.

Well, her character should be one of these that pop up whenever in need :/

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ahhh i'm SO HAPPY!

    ReplyDelete
  31. guess they'll run parallel. Not every show has the exact same team behind them, so I guess they can shoot next to each other

    ReplyDelete
  32. As far as I know the release order is DD, JJ, LC, then IF. I'm sure they'll take all the time they need to cast it (Danny Rand is probably the hardest of the four to cast) I'm just anxious to see it done.

    ReplyDelete
  33. next year we will be here again debating Arrow vs DareDevil round 2

    ReplyDelete
  34. of course, giving Arrow a reason to actually make a better fourth season.

All chances are open (although I don't have too much trust in Arrow these days)

    ReplyDelete
  35. New showrunners though

    ReplyDelete
  36. Isn't she supposed to go to Luke Cage? She was his love interest at one time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yay! It's a great show, one of Netflix's very best originals yet. (But then again, I hate House of Cards.) Hopefully all the Marvel series will get additional seasons with another Defenders teamup.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nope, Luke Cage is Jessica Jones' boyfriend. Hence why Luke is showing up in JJ first before his own show.

    ReplyDelete
  39. From Steve DeKnight-

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch,” DeKnight said in a statement. “They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”- via James Hibberd @ EW

    ReplyDelete
  40. Your're right, that makes sense. She was his love interest when he first came into his superpowers. I'm just ready for JJ now.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Or it could be something like Matt and Foggy discuss who patched Matt this time and it was the hot nurse (again) - without showing her and the actual scene.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes, loved the first season.
And 2016 is earlier than expected. Will that alter plans for Iron Fist and The Defenders?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah, Claire was Luke's girlfriend first then it was Jessica. And I so agree with you! Jessica Jones is one my favorite Marvel characters and I need her show in my life already. I highly recommend the Alias comics JJ will be based off of. It has such a mature tone to it (and it gets really messed up) but it's one of my favorite comics ever.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sorry, I deleted this because I meant to post SDk's tweet. Not this.

    ReplyDelete
  45. ah, good to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That could definitely fix the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Can't wait for more awesome fight scenes and great chemistry between characters

    ReplyDelete
  48. I knew it would happen, but still happy to see it confirmed! Daredevil is the best drama premiere this season IMO, it deserves its success

    ReplyDelete
  49. Excellent news

    ReplyDelete
  50. But they can't do that through out the while season. Plus with his new suit, he really shouldn't need her. But I would still like to see her reprise her role

    ReplyDelete
  51. https://media1.giphy.com/media/IYyn46tl55Yyc/200_s.gif I hope the new showrunnerS keep up the good work S1 was a blast.

    ReplyDelete
  52. VERY happy about this!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I read that her character is one from Iron fist, she forms a group of nurses that healñ the heroes when needed.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hopefully, the dark tone of the show remains there for next season, and ending is better next time. Fisk takedown was weak.

    ReplyDelete
  55. If Falling Skies is any indication, I now have low expectations for season 2 of this.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Awesome news! And in 2016!! Daredevil was such a possitive surprise.

No Steven S DeKnight is worrysome though, he was one of the major selling points for me after his stellar work on Spartacus and I respect the mans integrity when it comes to writing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. In all fairness, the bar for Falling Skies is and always has been considerably lower.

    ReplyDelete
  58. OH YES!!! So excited!! And happy!! And impatient for the new season to start already.. like tomorrow??

  59. Ana Flávia da Cruz22 April 2015 at 02:49

    YAAAAAAAY!!!
I'm so glad they renewed it! I was afraid they would do it only after The Defenders, which could be in ages!

    ReplyDelete
  60. oh shit, so on top of the cross over we will get we also get Season 2. Oh yea!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Awesome news!

    ReplyDelete
  62. http://i.giphy.com/t5cTE9ZfHth4s.gif

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow. I need to start watching this show. I'm surprised I held off as long as I have.

    ReplyDelete
  64. This could be late 2016 (say, Christmas break) with the other shows premiering before it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anyone know if the show will be released on blu ray/dvd eventually? Does netflix normally do that with their shows?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Best news of the week!! Hell yes Daredevil season 2 in 2016 and AKA Jessica Jones in 2015! amazing news. I cannot wait for these too happen. Man the rest of 2015 and 2016 were already heavily packed years now more so with probably DD season 2, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all happening next year. Cap. Civil War, Dr. Strange, Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, AoS Spinoff, Flash/Arrow Spinoff, Supergirl, Titans, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, X-Men Apocalypse. Probably more that I have forgotten about. Exciting time for comic fans, that is for sure. I think we have entered a new golden age of comics, just with a different medium

    ReplyDelete
  67. Great news. I felt that the first season has fallen apart in third act, but as a whole it still was deeply satisfying series and I was afraid we wouldn't get new season until after Defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  68. WHOA! that's so cool

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm not at all surprised by the renewal. I didn't think it was as amazing as most people, but despite its faults it was a good show, and deserves the love and the time and attention to grow.
A bit disappointed DeKnight's not available for S2 though...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh! Wilson Bethel for Danny!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cool, I really enjoyed it. Loved that you could watch all the episodes at once, so it took me only 3 days to watch it. I am not a huge fan of watching my favored show on a weekly basis and with several breaks in between.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This makes me incredibly happy, although I wonder how exactly it's going to work in terms of Defenders and the other series'! Personally I think they should've released all four shows in a year over a quarterly period and continued filming Defenders straight after Iron Fist. If all the shows have a completely different cast bar the odd crossover here and there then there shouldn't be any need to spread out the release dates as much.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Best news ever! Waited it so much since I've finished 1st season.
    Definitely made my day)

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. happy about the renewal but not so abt change in the showrunners...

    ReplyDelete
  76. YAY!!! Great news to wake up to! Loved the first Season, litterly one of the BEST Marvel aduptations EVER

    ReplyDelete
  77. I had no doubts.

    ReplyDelete
  78. YESSSSS *runs happily in the streets*

    ReplyDelete
  79. I was literally waiting for this news ever since i finished watching the 1st season!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Daredevil >Arrow, especially this season

    ReplyDelete
  81. me too , and the 2016 release made it so much better, let's hope the new showrunners keep up with the awesomeness that was season 1 *crosses fingers*

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ya,i have full faith in them, they will do their best!

    ReplyDelete
  83. YES!!!!!

This made my day! AWESOME NEWS! And in 2016? So much better than I hoped. Love the show. Really happy and excited about season 2!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Daredevil, Dark and well written. Respecting the source material while still offering fresh takes where it was warranted (such as a Karen Page that's interesting and relevant and not just a love interest/damsel in distress)

    ReplyDelete
  85. YES! Great news. I love this show.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Awesome news! And JJ airs this year, not 2016!?! Also does NETFLIX cancel Anything, ever? I know Hemlock Grove got cancelled, but not really cause it got a Final season order :D so Netflix is pretty awesome, they don't end their Shows with cliffhangers and they get proper endings :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Awesome. Love all the comic book shows. Everyone of them is great on their own. I like them all. Arrow, The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Daredevil, iZombie, Constantine. I love every one of them except Gotham. I watch it too but I just can't develop any enthusiasm for that show.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Luke was with Carla in the comics before meeting Jessica Jones... but the Carla on TV isn't pure Carla from the comics, they mixed in some Night Nurse too which is a different character as well.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Weird, she said its even possible that she appears on another marvel show. So even if she doesnt come back to Daredevil there's still a chance to see her.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I was doing the happy dance when I heard the news yesterday.....LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. They don't need her in every episode. Matt can patch himself when he's less hurt and she needs to help him offscene maybe in 1 of every 5 beating plus now he has his armour which prevents some injuires.

    ReplyDelete
  92. This made me SO happy!! =D

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well he's certainly got the physical attributes of the character but I've never seen Bethel do any dramatic stuff so, while I'm not willing to dismiss the idea, I'd have to see more of his work.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Best news I've gotten all week!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Well despite its lightheartedness, there were some more "serious" moments in HoD (please note I did put the serious in quotations) and I think he more than rose to the occassion. Plus from what I saw of him in Generation Kill (and granted I haven't seen all the episodes from that) he was good.

IMO he's a good actor. That he managed to really pop out from the whole cast, the way he did in HoD was proof of that.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Round 1-
    Daredevil>>>>>Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I haven't seen Bethel do grittier material (or anything outside of Dixie) so I'll take your word for it.

I think Danny Rand will be the hardest to cast of the four Netflix roles because whoever they cast has to be good enough, believable enough to help people get past the idea of a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Kung Fu master.

    ReplyDelete
  98. STOPtheMADNESS28 May 2015 at 07:38

She's staying. She will be seen on all of these Netflix series. It's awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. STOPtheMADNESS28 May 2015 at 07:42

Daredevil>>>>>>>>>>>>Arrow. Round 1 wasn't even close. Storyline, acting, cinematography, everything on Daredevil was far superior to Arrow this year.
