  1. I like Mike Vogel but this just sounds like Falling Skies...

  2. Common practice for networks to promote new shows during the finales of current shows, and the finales of 12 Monkeys and Helix air tonight.

This sounds nothing like Falling Skies.

  3. 12 Monkeys hardly gets that many eyeballs though.

It sounds exactly like it. The whole Aliens pretending to come to earth to help us. If not Falling Skies then definitely V.

  4. The book was written in 1953, so it predates V. The V comparison I get, but in Falling Skies the aliens killed like 95% of the population (been a while since I watched season 1).
What other shows on Syfy do better? The Walking Dead finale already happened, cant advertise the show on HBO during Game of Thrones, where else could they debut the trailer?

  5. Childhood's End doesn't come out until December. It doesn't really matter what day SyFy releases the teaser for it as it's not like there isn't plenty of time to build heat for the show.

Thematically, Childhood's End is quite different from Falling Skies and V. It's more about utopia and cultural identity than those shows were. It's hard to tell from just the teaser but the show could be a real comeback for SyFy in terms of BSG-like intelligence and quality. Also? Charles Dance. Who doesn't want to watch something with Charles Dance in it? :)

  6. It was a storyline they brought into FS later on, not very well I might add. I only care about which TV version came first since I won't be able to help but compare them.
They could have put it anywhere, if the show isn't arriving until December they could have waited for their Summer shows to start. Olympus and Dark Matter didn't get teasers this early.

  7. That's like saying that Star Trek and BSG are the same show because they're about characters on spaceships. Yes, all three shows you are talking about have the starting point of 'aliens show up on Earth' but the themes of the Childhood's End books are very different than those of V or Falling Skies.

  8. Is this another one of those 'mini-series that could be picked up as a full series' type of thing like BSG and Ascension then? That would better explain why they didn't go ahead with Ascension if they had a similar project planned. I've no idea who Charles Dance is :P

  9. Are you saying the aliens are really there to try and help humans then? I thought that was just a cover.

  10. I hope they don't change the original plot.

I don't care which show it superficially resembles or what came first, to me this looks great, sounds great and it has Mike Vogel and Charles Dance, so I'm going to be in front of my TV with bells on this December to watch it.
Question for those who read the books: should I get them or wait until after the miniseries?

  12. Oh I'm going to see it only for Charles Dance lol

  13. Answering yes or no would be spoiling the point of the book/mini-series. The answer is the whole twist of the story.

Not possible the book can not be streched into a series.

Childhood's end is far more "prestigious" than these shows. As a book it's considered one of science fiction's big classics.

  17. Good call on putting Charles Dance in that promo... I'm IN for that reason alone!
