12 Monkeys - Paradox - Advance Preview

3 Apr 2015

12 Monkeys, “Paradox,” is the penultimate episode of the shows first season. It’s another wonderfully woven episode. It was directed by Dennie Gordon with the story by Terry Matalas and the screenplay by Richard E Robbins. Gordon’s many credits include Burn Notice, Hell on Wheels, and White Collar. As the title would suggest, there is a paradox that occurs in this episode that will change everything – and comes with another terrific special effect.

I was a little surprised that it would seem we will be continuing with the action in 2043. Something is growing on the machine, and Jones (Barbara Sukowa) is determined to carry on regardless of what’s happened. Deacon (Todd Stashwick) has a new ally. In fact, we see alliances shift in both 2015 and 2043. The discussions of fate and hope from last week also continue. For instance, Aaron (Noah Bean) makes a deal because politics have taught him to be a pragmatist.
There are two interesting and poignant reunions of sorts in 2015. We find out that Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Jones met in 2015. Cassie (Amanda Schull) brings a toy gun to a knife fight. We finally find out the whole story behind that glass of dropped milk. We also find out what was on the note Cassie gave to Cole just before she died in 2017. We also find out how Ramse (Kirk Acevedo) and Cole met. People keep asking about Cassie and Cole’s relationship in the episode. Markridge gets a surprising new CEO.

And that’s all I’m going to tease about the episode! Here are a few dialogue teases:

“It is we who are abandoned.”
“I’m a scientist. I don’t believe in fate.”
“The only failure is giving up.”
“Is it genocide or is it evolution?”
“He’s not just a friend. He’s much more.”
“Mother nature doesn’t like it if you rearrange her furniture.”
“Forward is the only direction available at the moment.”
“Love can’t be calculated or predicted.”

You won’t want to miss this episode! And then there’s only one more to finish this first season. I can’t believe how this season has simply flown by! Don’t forget to tune in March 3 on Syfy at 9pm.

  3. people asking about Cole and Cassie's relationship?! AWESOME!!!! "he's not just a friend, he's much more" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET IT BE CASSIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Mother Nature doesn't like it when you rearrange her furniture" Cole said that in the pilot, is that a typo? "I'm a scientist, I don't believe in fate" at first i thought it was Cassie but maybe it's Jones. "Love can't be calculated or predicted" very interesting way to put the concept of love so maybe it's Jones to Cassie. "The only failure is giving up" feels like Jones or Cassie, in that she won't give up in trying to save Cole, so do we see both young Cole and young Ramse (THAT SOB!!!!) in this episode? that quote about Mother Nature is bugging me LOL, IS it a typo? Jennifer's the new CEO! LOL yeah right HA!

  4. I would also accept if it was anyone else, saying it TO Cassie. Like, they're trying to tell her to get with the program, the only person who doesn't know she has feelings for Cole is HER. ha

  5. An entire sentence isn't a "typo" it would be a flaming error. Which it's not. That particular sentence is said more than once in the episode. Remember what the title is...

  8. I was beyond excited for this episode and now I don't know what to do with myself! Can't wait!

Sounds like there will be a lot of reveals I was waiting for. It makes sense the spilled milk happens in this episode since young Cole will be in it.

“Mother nature doesn’t like it if you rearrange her furniture.” - Since Cole's already said that before I guess there's a good chance he says that again.

I'm really excited over that last quote but don't want to get my hopes up.

  10. "Love can't be calculated or predicted" - Isn't that from the sneak peek of Jones and her father talking?
