HISTORY® GREENLIGHTS FOURTH SEASON OF

HIT DRAMA SERIES

VIKINGS

#1 Cable Series Thursday Nights in Live +3

New York, New York, March 26, 2015 – HISTORY® has picked up a fourth season of its hit scripted series VIKINGS, it was announced today by Dirk Hoogstra, EVP and General Manager, HISTORY & H2. VIKINGS is created and written by Michael Hirst (The Tudors, Elizabeth) and five new episodes remain in the current season airing Thursdays at 10 p.m. with the season finale slated for Thursday, April 23 at 10 p.m.

On a Live +3 basis for the first five episodes in season three, VIKINGS is averaging 4.3 million total viewers, 2.2 million Adults 25-54 and 2.0 million Adults 18-49. For five weeks in a row, VIKINGS ranks as the number one cable series on Thursday nights in all key demos in Live +3 delivery.

Production on season four will begin this spring in Ireland.

“VIKINGS has raided the hearts of both audiences and critics, establishing itself as one of the most compelling, visually stunning dramas on television,” said Hoogstra. “We are so proud of our immensely talented cast and crew led by Michael Hirst, whose intriguing storylines and pivotal arcs have the perfect balance of scope, smarts and bloodshed to keep our loyal fans watching and wanting more.”

MGM Television brought the series to the network and brings VIKINGS to the global audience, serving as the worldwide distributor outside of Ireland and Canada.

“VIKINGS is a tremendous success worldwide thanks to the visionary talents of Michael Hirst, the entire creative team and our partners at HISTORY,” said Roma Khanna, President, Television Group and Digital, MGM. “We look forward to entertaining audiences worldwide with the next epic season.”

VIKINGS tells the extraordinary tales of the lives and epic adventures of these warriors and portrays life in the Dark Ages through the eyes of Viking society. The gripping family saga of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), Rollo (Clive Standen), Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) continues in season three as alliances and loyal friendships are questioned, faith is catechized and relationships are strained.

Created and written by Michael Hirst – one of the premier historical story-tellers in the industry (Academy-Award winning film Elizabeth; and the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated series The Tudors), Michael serves as Executive Producer along with Morgan O’Sullivan of World 2000 (The Count of Monte Cristo; The Tudors), Sheila Hockin (The Tudors; The Borgias), John Weber of Take 5 Productions (The Tudors; The Borgias), Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer and James Flynn (The Tudors; The Borgias). Dirk Hoogstra and Julian P. Hobbs are the Executives in Charge of Production for HISTORY.

  2. "Unofficially", it was. Just is just the official announcement.

  3. I tried to give this a shot a couple of days ago along with Black Sails and Salem but none held my interest, I might try again when I have more free time.

  5. The first season is the worst... and the time-skipping in that season is really weird, but then it's really smooth.

  6. I understand U. It is a tough cookie but it does get quite good by the end of season 1.
Salem is a really pain in the as*. I just wanted to like it so much and by the end of ep 4 I did but disliked it by the end of S01 again. Lucy Lawless maybe makes me wanna watch it again.
Black Sails is good but it is difficult to swallow. I stopped watching after ep 6 cause it was just to chaotic at times.

  9. I implore you to go back to Black Sails; this season has been the best season of television of any show I've ever watch except maybe BSG. It truly is fine story telling and 100 times better than s1.

I struggled through season 1, but by the end I couldn't wait for more. Black Sails is a different story for me, I hated the pilot so I didn0t go back for more. And Salem, I'll be honest, I watch it as background noise, I really want it to like it on account of Shane West, but it's not something I love.

  11. It was a fine show but I really didn't make a connection to any character that would draw me back. The one I liked was killed of and as I heard brought back to live, no names to not spoil anyone here.
Maybe I'll catch over summer but doubt it as I'm quite busy. ^_^

I am 63yr. and I love this show. My family is surprised as I am a non-violent everything. This show just has me front row and center every Thursday. I identify with Travis Femmel (who looks like my brother) and Katherine Winnick, such a beautiful strong woman. I think I must have been a Renaissance woman in a past life, I love that time period. I wish the music would be more renaissance orientated. I am so...happy they have been renewed. All of the characters are extremely talented actors, I get so emotionally involved because they pull me in.

  15. They didn't mention Athelstan! Why didn't they mention Athelstan!!!! I had hoped that they would to sooth my fears.....

  16. Vikings needs a little time to establish the culture...I recommend to watch the first three episodes. If it doesn't hold your interest then, it is not for you.

  17. Vikings is one of those seldom shows that get´s better every season. Unfortunetly that means that season 1 was the worst one. It takes a little time to connect with the characters, but after a while you really do. And it is worth it! Such a great story!
I watched the first 3 episodes of Black Sails and didm´t like it at all. Never tried Salem.

  18. I am very happy about this news, but it will be sad that Athelstan is missing. Torstein, Siggy and now Athelstan....who will be left for season 4?
