The X-Files - Chris Carter on X-Files Revival and Production Details *Updated*

Thanks to Matt63 for the heads up.

When queried about the writers and producers that could join his team, Carter confirms that Glen Morgan will be coming back in a productorial position. "We've lured Darin Morgan and Jim Wong, we're very excited about that and we're working on the rest." He adds. Hopefully we can get a confirmation on Frank Spotnitz soon enough. Chris Carter also mentions that there will be a nice mix of mythology and stand alone episodes.

Carter also clarifies that while he thinks that IDW's The X-Files: Season 10 plot lines are very interesting, they won't be used in the revival of the TV show.

Q: We already know that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are set to go, but who else will be back?

A: "I have ideas for everyone," he explains at my mention of the possibility of having Mitch Pileggi, Annabeth Gish, and Robert Patrick reprise their iconic roles. "Their availability is subject to their regular paying jobs. Of course, I'd like to bring everyone possible back, but it's who's going to fit into the story and who's available."

Q: Where do we land? Are we going to have a time jump? Are we going to address the 2012 deadline? And what about William?

A: "I've thought about that," he says referring to the colonization date. "I don't know exactly how I'm going to address it, in a big way, a mild way, a modern way, a mention or a plot point." Then he adds, "And of course you can't avoid to deal with the William (arc) in some way or another."

The six-episode series will film this summer with a premiere date to be announced at a later date.

"I know what I want to do, how I want it to lay out—the balance of mythology to stand-alone episodes," Carter said. And for fans who didn't obsessively watch all nine seasons of the show, you will be able to jump into the world of Mulder, Scully and their paranormal investigations when the new episodes premiere.

"It'll be honest to the characters, and what happened to them since the series ended and the second movie," Carter said.

  2. Oh please. When things are finished they are finished. The quality of the post series feature script indicates that this is one dead horse that just needs to be allowed to rest.

  4. This coming from a pathetic moron who likes Arrow and Teen Wolf. That indicates you're a piece of sh*t with no taste and your opinion on everything is worthless.

  6. Seems like this is almost like a minseason. He confirms he's ignoring the season 1o comics and other writers will be involved.

I feel episodes 1,5,and 6 will be arc.Episode 2 could be arc or stand alone and episodes 3 and 4 will be stand alone.

X-files to me is mulder and scully.I have no problem with Doggert and Reyes as supporting characters to them probelm with seasons 8 and 9 they were trying to turn X-files into about them to continue show.

It's very Intresting that William Davis has been consulted about his availabilty. Some how it seems a resurrection of CSM,or cancer man to die hard fans of show like me.

As long as it's mulder and Scully centrict and some of 6 episodes are arc I am happy

  8. OMG this is AMAZING! I'm fan of the x-files since i was 9 years old! It was devastating when the show was over, and now it's coming back!! CHILLS!

  9. I can see them doing two stand alones only. With 6 episodes, it doesn't leave much room for too much MOTW episodes. I agree slotting in two stand alones in the middle with episode 3 and 4 is the way to go.

I feel Doggett and Reyes deserve closure, even if people hate them. They deserve a cameo appearance or even one episode for some sort of closure.

Scully's mother should return for a cameo too, if shes still alive. The actress is 71 years old now.

I know! I don't think I have the words to describe how excited I am for this. Mulder and Scully are back! How cool is that?

I know Alex Krycek is dead but I would love to see Mulder punch him one more time.

  15. Actually, I was a huge fan. Watched every episode, until I think, the next to last season. When Scully and Mulder kissed. I took bags of video tapes to a couple of friends home and hooked them on the show. I even watched both movies.

I think part of the strength of my reaction is that Chris Carter did a couple of things he swore he would never do (that kiss being one.) and that left me feeling betrayed as a viewer. That was combined with the fact that the stories took a turn I didn't enjoy. I don't think the last movie was able to capture the spark that made the show so good in the first place. That said, I spent most of my sci-fi loving television history watching shows I fell in love with cancelled after 5 or 6 episode. Sometimes in the middle of a cliff hanger. I think X-Files is the show that started convincing the major networks that they could give sci fi a chance to build an audience.

The other part is that I do really believe that when stories are done they're done. When a character's story has run it's course move on. (Cass and Crowley from Supernatural and Klaus on Vampire Diaries are a couple of examples) More than 90% of the time it's painful (or at best underwhelming) to watch them try. The actors and writers grow and move on....that alone IMHO is reason to let it go. There are two shows that I would love to see more of and I'd vote against trying to revive them.

  16. There is so much they can still do in this verse. My hope is that this 6 episode run will spawn a new series. Very rarely do I get behind spin offs but I'd be there for this one!

  17. I'm so excited!!! Hopefully this show will round off the storylines. :)

  18. So mythology and monster of the week. Pretty cool.

I don't hate Dogged and Reyes, so I don't mind if they come back as a cameo. But sorry, with only six episodes I want to see Mulder & Scully as much as possible.

Also, I don't want dead characters coming back just for the shake of coming back (cough comic book seasons, from Files to Buffy, cough).

  19. If they're doing MOTW eps I wish there were 7 or 8 episodes instead. Ah well.

Ive been a fan since the moment i saw the show while i know some ship them at that time i interacted with zero fans and read zero interviews so when the kiss came it made since to me 2 lonely souls that spent 7 years sacrificing there personal life for mulders misson so when it left off there the story made sense to me i enjoyed the stories and while i admit the super soldier plot was a bit different and not as great the alien one thats where they messed up but i get why they did it there mistake was not usin season 8 to end it i did love seein monica and doggett but them takin over 2 beloved characters was to hard on fans but the point is i want an endin to alot of unanswered questions and wanna see closure to the big alien plot and there son and i would love an endin to the supportin cast

  21. I'm not going to try and change your opinion. I wouldn't and shouldn't. They told some fabulous stories. While I had fun with the early conspiracy theory eps they ultimately became less satisfying. But stories like Squeeze, Ice and the one in the logging came were some of the VERY few stories that had me wound up in a rapt ball of tension (the good kind when you're telling a suspense/horror story.) There's probably a descent list of eps I loved.

What were some of your favorite stories from the show?

  22. I am SO READY FOR THIS. I don't even care if it's bad, I could never say no to more Mulder and Scully. Plus, they're going back the Vancouver, which is just the icing on the cake!

  25. Was all set to say I definitely won't watch but...I can't swear curiosity won't win out. I used to love the show a lot.

I expressed my opinion about the project because on this site the point is so be able to express your opinion. The site administrator has a strong stance about insulting non-constructive replies because people should feel free to express an opinion even if it isn't popular. I'm completely open to discussing why I have the opinion I have but rarely to I run into posts on spoilerTV were people tell others (or strongly suggest) not to say anything if they can't agree with the majority.
