Thanks to SnapeJ for the heads up.

IGN: Let’s get into it, destroyer of hope and love.

Rothenberg: That’s me. Otherwise known as Satan.

IGN: At this point, when you air an episode like the last one, are you just like, “Bring it, Twitter… Bring it”?

Rothenberg: I feel like it’s an honor to arouse so much passion, one way or another.

IGN: Obviously Lexa’s choice was the big thing here, but we don’t see her make the decision. It’s a surprise reveal, so how difficult do you think this was for her to make that choice?

Rothenberg: First of all, I think Alycia [Debnam-Carey] crushed the episode. I think she did great for us all season but this past week, in particular, I just thought she was outstanding in every scene she was in. That scene in particular, she definitely showed, in her eyes, how hard that choice was for her. I ultimately don’t think it was a surprise. She’s been saying, really since we met her, that basically love is weakness and so that’s really what she upheld in that moment. She put her people first, always – [including] letting the missile fall on Tondc. I just had a long Twitter back and forth with another critic online. She didn’t understand how someone who could let the missile fall on Tondc would then do what she did in the last episode. For me, those two moments are 100% consistent. She let the missile fall on Tondc in this sort of Churchillian, very difficult moment, which was designed to allow them to win the war. Essentially, that decision [in the last episode] was also about winning the war. She won, in that moment. It wasn’t just a retreat. I think maybe she just interpreted it as a retreat as opposed to, essentially, she struck a deal with Cage. Cage offered her a chance to end the reaping forever, because they no longer need Grounder blood because they have the 44’s bone marrow, and that’ll be enough to cure them all. So the reaping is over and they’re going to have a truce. I wouldn’t say peace because peace is hard to have with someone like Cage, but certainly a truce with their greatest enemy. All it cost her was the sky people. I don’t think ultimately it was a hard choice for her to make. It was an easy decision to make. But I think emotionally, obviously, it costs her because she does care for Clarke.

  1. Glad Lexa isn't in the finale (unless these are LIES), I am looking forward to the used-to-be 100 save themselves.

Really hope we get plenty of Lexa in S3 though, just because I am excited to see the new dynamic between her and Clarke.

  2. Lexa could come back if she died or something on TWD. She could come back Season 4,5,6 or 7? (If theres even that many seasons.) Can't wait to see Clarkes reaction Wednesday!

  3. I'll be the first to say that I'm so glad Lexa won't be in the last episode of the finale as there would have been no way JR and crew could have justified her showing up after the dick move she made. I'll also admit that I was a pretty big fan of Lexa (but I don't do ships) and didn't want her to die. However, if JR brings her back in S3, nothing he writes for her will ever make me a fan again. The betrayal was too much and unforgivable to make her a likeable character again for me.

    ReplyDelete
  4. This is a hell of a finale and I adore that the show goes back to it's core group of teens, we don't need the grounders here in Wednesday.
I really hope they will find a way to bring the Lexa actress back in new conditions for S03.

  5. AMC, your spin off looks a flop from far away....MAKE THAT NEGATION!

  7. This was a great interview but it was all about Clarke and Lexa. There are more than two characters going through hell right now.

    This makes me speculate-

"And so, in the finale, certainly Clarke is going to be pushed into a similar choice, or a similar decision, and will she or won’t she make the same choice?"

Will she sell out Bellamy/Jasper/Monty like Lexa did her and the 44? To maybe save Abby/Kane/Raven etc..,Gah. This show.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Btw I STILL dont understand Lexa's decision tbh. I mean Finn killed 18 people and Lexa made sure they he was dead. After all the years what MM have done to the grounders, Lexa just called a truce and done?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I know right? First Jason said that show isn't about love and now he only talks about Clarke and Lexa. I would love to know more about Bellamy/Monty/Kane.

I hope that without Lexa's influence Clarke won't do that.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Could be that the interviewer only asked about these two characters, or that asking about anyone else would be too spoilery.

    ReplyDelete
  11. if lexa and clarke do meet again in season 3 could you imagine what would happen lexa would be happy to see clarke and see that she still alive and clarke would most likely give lexa the death stare or punch her in the face

  12. I'm OK with Lexa not being in the finale. I do want to see her next season though, just not right away. I am wondering if there's gonna be any Grounder at all in te finale besides Lincoln, but I still hope that Indra will show up to help Octavia. And then please promote Adina Porter to regular for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Could be. I didn't pay attention, but if it was Eric, he is a huge fan of Clarke and Lexa.

    ReplyDelete
  14. she saw an opportunity and she took it. It's their people first, the MM came to her with a deal, they will not hunt them anymore as long as they delivered the Arc people to them and so she took it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I get the feeling that it's going to come down to Clarke pumping radiation into the safe zone killing all the civilian. End scene Clarke walking through their corpses only to find the children were given the bone marrow but under the 48hr it need to have to work fully, meaning they are dying slowly. Clarke mercy killing children is my bet for the shocking end. It's not the 100 if Clarke's not mercy killing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm tired of Lexa and the fact that all promotion focus on her. I want the show to go back to being about the delinquents and not the grounders. I miss the group dynamic.
Also Jason is being a hypocrite. He says he is neutral when it comes to ships and that the show isn't about romance and the only thing he has been doing is talking about Clexa non stop.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't see the problem, Clexa's been the best story line, that had an epic pay off.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Exactly my thoughts.
He never was neutral. He stopped the interview when someone asked him about Bellarke but with Clexa it's a whole different story. It's really annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't know whom she will sell out, but it definitely won't be any of her people. Maybe, she will decide that she no longer needs to save the "innocents," which was the plan at the start of the day in her "rescue mission" speech.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Think this was more a post 2x15 interview that a real preview.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This. I really like Lexa, but I adore Raven or Octavia or even Monty way more. She's an interesting character but this season has really been missing our delinquents working together, which is why I am so pumped for the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why is Lexa not in the finale? I was hoping she would finally die ...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Clexa has been the worst storyline this season. Just because it's representation doesn't mean it's good. I already talked about this in other articles but Clarke having feelings for the person responsible for Finn's death is ridiculous especially because according to the writers timeline Finn died three weeks ago.
And the show should focus on the lead characters. You know the people in the opening credits? I'm tired of Jason and the writers shoving Lexa down the audience's throats every chance they get.

This show surpassed all my expectations this season.I'm sure the finale won't be any exception!

    ReplyDelete
  25. If the cliffhanger has anything to do with Jaha and the CoL then I'll be underwhelmed. Seriously, how much tension, drama, angst can they reveal after the incredibly slow build-up of that damn storyline? The action is in the mountain with the Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, Monty, Jasper trying to rescue their people. If they really want to deliver a powerful cliffhanger, they should have it to do with that last battle/rescue attempt.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agreed.I,for one,am glad we won't have to see Lexa in the finale. She just pissed me off last episode. That kiss was forced as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  27. God yes. He has become arrogant and patronizing too. Especially to fans who don't agree with him. Not the delusional ones who rant and rave but ones who legitimately have questions. I had to unfollow him because the more I read, the more pissed I got.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Finn was responsible for his own death.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Agreed to first two statements. Disagree with the kiss one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. It wasn't the best story for me and what was the epic pay off? Betrayal? Nothing about Lexa or Lexa and Clarke was epic. Jason broke no veils with a bisexual story line or lead character.

    ReplyDelete
  31. People act like Clarke is the only bisexual character on tv and that this is the first time this kind of storyline happens. The OC and Degrassi did this storyline ten years ago. People need to stop acting like it's groundbreaking.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's what irks me. Even the 90210 remake did it years ago. I'd call Willow, from Buffy, being lesbian more groundbreaking than Clarke being bi.
Which is still the most ridiculous and most unnecessary character development of the entire season.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't mind Clarke being bi. What I mind it's how ridiculous and forced the storyline was. Especially with Lexa ordering Finn's death.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That was harsh but finn had to die.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Agreed. I don't care if she's bi or straight out lesbian if it made sense to this story. It doesn't. There was no purpose for this development. It didn't move the story in any way. Other than an alliance was betrayed.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The reason he did that because as SOON as that Kiss was leaked it got ALOT of people ( who hadn't watched the show intrigued) It got lot of promotion from EW to Zapit with Alycia's interviews eveywhere. The 100 doesn't get a lot of ratings and isn't the most popular show on the internet(sure it has fanbase but compared to the other CW shows ?not strong at all).Lets be honest, that leaked-footage got a lot of people interested no matter people like the story arc or not.

And maybe the story arc is OVER. I mean Jason pretty much screwed any chance with Clexa ship. And he isn't being a hypocrite..this is show ISN'T about ships. Its about survival..If this show had been about SHIPS, bellarke would have been canon by now or lexa wouldn't have betrayed clarke in previous episode.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Can we speculate what the City of Light will be in the finale, here? They say it's more surprising than the White Room cliffhanger and not what we expect.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, after I recovered a little bit from last week's episode and Lexa´s betrayal, I can honestly say that I am SO, SO happy, that we will see her again!!! The next time those two meet... omg... I can hardly wait... it is going to be epic. (Still totally want Clarke to get back at her! Make her pay! Big time!)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Maybe it is New York City...

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOL. The article says that Jason wants Lexa in 3rd season. It doesn't mean that Alycia will have time to do 2 shows at the same time. In the end it will be AMC decision.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's what I think. They'll find a thriving, fully functioning city. Who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am pretty sure she can squeeze in at least a guest appearance for one episode... Since a lot of actors are in more than one show. For example Ricky Whittle, the guy who payes Lincoln. He is also on "Mistresses".

    ReplyDelete
  43. I get it and I get why she ordered his death. But as much as I disliked Flarke Clarke LOVED him and that's canon. I find it ridiculous how three weeks later she is kissing the person responsible for his death. Clarke tried to negotiate with Lexa but she wanted blood. Even if Finn was the one who killed 18 Lexa is too involved with his death for Clarke to be making heart eyes at her.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sorry but the kiss didn't bring the ratings. 2x14 was the second lowest rated episode this season (0.48). If anything the kiss alienated some of the fans and this show can't risk losing more viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes,that's eactly what i thought too.I have no idea why the creatives are pushing for Clarke-Lexa so hard-the show has amazing characters and solid writing-no need to add romantic melodrama in it to fulfill CW teen romance quota. This show is supposed to be different-the sooner they get this through their thick skull, the better!
Just look at TVD-what a show it was and what it has become!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I hope she's back for one episode so I can hope for an knock down, drag out between Lexa and Octavia.

    ReplyDelete
  47. According to this TVGuide Magazine scan: http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/03/the-100-season-2-finale-tv-guide.html it's "nothing at all like what anybody could imagine." I assume it's an oil platform or a boat. "City of Light" is just a metaphor IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Unfortunately if Lexa does return its going to be some angsty drama instead of Clarke taking a stand which is why I can't even be excited if this storyline develops in season 3. But I do agree with most here that despite all the amazing stuff that has gone down this season.. s3 really needs to better utilize their ensemble cast. I'm not even a big Raven fan but she's been underused. Lincoln was. Kane & Abby litterally did nothing all season despite Kane's awesome character development. And I'd prefer to see Monty given material aside from being Jasper's best friend. I understand they are all supporting characters but this should not turn into the clexa show. I'm not sure how even a storyline to this polis will start considering litterally no one will want to go find Lexa. Octavia Bellamy etc could probably care less if shes dead. & I understand the dynamic between Clarke & lexa for this season.. in times of war but lexa didn't even have relations with any other character so I don't really see how she's essential to the sky peoples story. Hoping for a small arc like Anya in s2 but who knows. I will for sure be checking out twd spinoff & Alycia is a amazing actress

    ReplyDelete
  49. She's the first LGBT lead character on a major network.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Clexa is a real thing, but Bellarke is a figment of the fans' imagination.

    ReplyDelete
  51. OMG... oil platform... I never thought about that! That is a really cool idea.

Maybe you are right, maybe it is not a city at all, ... but since people go there to life there, it must be at least a settlement, or a giant building or like you said oil platform, boat..., something where people have a roof over their head and can create a livelihood...

Or... it is all a big deception! Lure people to this magical place, where everybody is welcome and can find a home... but behind that sea, lake, pond (whatever it is) they meet slavers, or human traffickers, or evil people who want to use and abuse them in some other horrible way... ---> I would be strangely ok with that! Because Jaha as the hero, who safes the day and comes back to guides HIS subjects through the desert makes me want to barf.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It must be "something" modern... because of the drone and the solar panels... or not... I don´t know... we will see... ;-) (But I hope they make it quick. I want the attention on Mt. Weather and I have already heard enough motivational speeches from Jaha to last a lifetime.)

    ReplyDelete
  53. LOL it was the highest after 2x06. Please get the facts right!

    ReplyDelete
  54. And Kass Morgan imagination ;)

Real or not - it's rude to walk away when fans of your show asking you about something.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I love how people turned against Lexa so quickly and wrote off the notion of ever caring about or enjoying the character again. I wonder if the same people still hate all of the other characters for their various betrayals over the course of the series.

*Bellamy getting over 300 innocent people killed on the ark.
*Finn never mentioning he had a girlfriend in Raven, and started flirting with other girls the moment he landed on the ground. Not to mention massacring unarmed civilian grounders.
*Octavia during all of season 1. Betraying and working against the group to help Lincoln, even before he was revealed to be a good guy.
*Murphy for being a vicious bully, then killing 2 of the 100.
*Abby betraying her husband and getting him floated, and letting Clarke's friend take the blame. Not to mention sending 100 kids, including her own daughter, to the ground (without supplies) when they believed it was soaked in radiation.
*Jaha for betraying and floating is best friend (Clarke's dad) and countless other people on ark, as well as sending the 100 to Earth.
*Kane for pushing so hard for people to be killed on the ark to save oxygen.

If you hate Lexa because she betrayed Clarke, and find you can't enjoy seeing her character develop on screen anymore because of it, then logic dictates you must feel the same about all of the other characters I listed. I don't know how you can even watch this show, hating so many characters. It must suck for you.

I'm fine with Lexa coming back. After all, even with all of their sins, Bellamy and Kane have gotten great development since then. Murphy has become entertaining to watch, etc. There's no reason Lexa can't receive the same character development.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm surprised Lexa is not in the finale, she made the choice to save her people as a commander. But she is supposed to love Clarke and I was thinking maybe, she could come back (just her and maybe Lincoln...) to help Clarke. I also think she could get killed while helping Clarke. But I am obvioulsy wrong. Anyway I hope we get to see Lexa again in season 3, the actress is incredibly gifted, wether we like or not Lexa, the acting is just amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. most people can wait for Bellarke another 9 seasons because their relationship development has been amazing over these last 29 episodes and not like Clexa that have known each other for 9. I ship Bellarke romantically or not but it will forever be my number 1 ship of this show.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The actress playing Lexa has been cast as a regular on the new Walking Dead spinoff, which has already been renewed for a second season. Unless she gets killed off on that show we probably won't see much more of her in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If Clarke goes on a 42 minute murder spree to successfully free her people from Mt. Weather I'd be more than satisfied.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Me too! I am hoping for slaughtered MM left and right... At this point I just don´t care anymore. Not sure what that says about my character... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. In JR's The Wrap interview, The final question asked if Clarke and Octavia will continue to try to work with the Grounders in S3. The last part of his response brought music to my ears: Plus, the legend about Clarke of the Sky People is growing, so there are many possibilities to explore on that front.

Damn spanky! The Grounders better recognize that Clarke of the Sky People is not one to be trifled with. Shoot, if she can stand up to and intimidate the "Commander" of the 12-clan alliance (betrayal be damned) then she will be just as savvy and calculated with other leaders. Plus, heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned. -William Congreve

    ReplyDelete
  62. Please don't touch Bellamy and i'll be fine no matter how crazy twist they throw at us and please kill Cage!
    That being said..

    https://p.gr-assets.com/540x540/fit/hostedimages/1380396630/764794.gif

    ReplyDelete
  63. yeah and it also looks like that SOB cage is scared crapless of Clarke too. The Sky People are JUST the 100 right?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes, the 100 delinquents and later everyone who survived re-entry when the council decided to break up the Ark into the original stations and head down to Earth.

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is why I don't like this show. There is not one person that has not murdered someone or to be more precise a great many people. I have lost count of how many times the phrase ' they will have to live with it' or it will haunt you for the rest of your life'. No one lives with anything they just go on killing. Reading the posts that is what many viewers want: romance and badass killers. There is no morality to this at all. I see it as an interactive video game as the producers manipulate viewers and create shipping wars. JR sees this as Lord of the Rings but that had a moral message. The characters act in accordance to what is needed for the plot so they are basically cyphers who will change personality instantly: that is not character development. JR has said her wants to push ahead as fast as possible: human beings don't change that fast.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Actually it's Lord of the Flies...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Bellamy is the one character that is off limits for me. But I'll be sure that I'll be devastated if we lose any of the main characters, even Jaha who has been a bit annoying lately.
This is one of the few shows in which I love every single main character and any loss would be hugely felt and missed

    ReplyDelete
  68. Of course he talked about clarke and lexa in this interview. The interviewer asked questions about them and the previous episode's biggest moment was between clarke and lexa. This show is about survival and characterization. Love is a factor in characterization.

    ReplyDelete
  69. She could probably do both shows no problem. The spin-off probably follows the same 16 episode split season format as the walking dead and The 100 has a 16 episode formate as well so there shouldn't really be an overlap time wise. Daniel Gillies manages to film The Originals and Saving Hope and both of those shows use a larger episode format (22 and 18)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Character's I'd be okay with being killed off: Abby, Lincoln, Octavia, Indra, Wick, Maya, Cage.

Hopefully if anyone has to die, it's any of them.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I am one of those who readily said I don't care to see Lexa in S3. The difference between her and the other characters, JR and crew continue to develop them post betrayal to show remorse, guilt or accepting the ramifications of their actions and rising above, etc. They have not done that with Lexa and won't add to her character in the last episode either. So, at this point, I'm content with my assertion that I don't care if Lexa makes a return in S3. Could that possibly change if she goes through a similar transformation of repentance next season? Perhaps but I'm not going to hold my breath. That said, I will be checking out TWD companion series and hope Alycia brings the same level of acting to her new role.

    ReplyDelete
  72. so when people say The Sky People they don't mean The Arkers, as in the adults right?
