1. This was probably my favorite episode of this series yet! This was also Freddie Highmore's best acting he has done on this show.

2. Show keeps getting better and darker. They dont even need to show blood or violence to make it twisted

3. So embarrassing but can someone please tell me what Annika said right at the very end and what did she hand to Norma? I had the volume down too low and didn't catch it.

6. she says: "use this, use it, do something, it's important, use it for you and your son".

7. This episode was better that the last 2, it's still a little slow, but good, I loved when Norma went to identify that dead girl, and she recognizes her for her nail polish LOL and then how she stares at her, this woman is fantastic, and then Dylan, Caleb and Emma, this scene, made me wonder if what Dylan is doing (about Caleb not the marihuana issue), is wrong or right, I mean, yeah it's his father, but if he really attacked her mother, should he act like nothing happened??, and then I think well Norma also mistreated him for years, and now he's acting like anything happened because she apologized to him, why not to do the same with this guy, at least he's been nice to him ever since they met, I don't know it's a complicated situation, and finally Norman and his hallucinations so he did black out when he was with Annika, and now Annika shows out half dead and gives Norma something that could help her and her son, but which one??, Norman or Dylan??... that was the best of the episode no doubt, finally I'm dying to see what it's coming next week.

8. Bates Motel has always been kinda slow IMO. But in a good way. They take their time to build up to things and it always manages to make me a little more nervous than I might be otherwise, ha. And I'm glad they took two seasons to get Norman to a really dark place, I find it makes him a bit more sympathetic even though you know there's no redemption or happy ending there.

9. I feel so incredibly bad for Norma. Oh, my god...her breakdown at the office after the scare Norman gave her was just heartbreaking. And then having to deal with Annika (totally didn't see that coming! There's a story I definitely want to know more about now)...talk about your bad nights.
And Norman? YEOW. His confrontation with Norma on the stairs, and his freakout in his room, and then the whole "conversation" before he got into the tub...creeeeeeeeeeepy (and when he was washing his face at the sink he looked the most like the Norman we know from 'Psycho', so that was eerie). Safe to say he's pretty much at the point of no return now, or he's very close to that point, at least.
Also interested in this guy who's shown up who's going to run in the sheriff's race. Hmmmm. I'm thinking that's not going to end well for somebody.
Rather intense episode! Good to see these stories continuing to build.

Agreed. As creepy as he was in many respects tonight, when he was ranting at Emma about how easy it is to start feeling like you did something wrong when someone's constantly looking at/talking to/acting like you did something wrong, I couldn't help but feel for him. He has a point with that.

11. Wow, what twists!! Loving all the new characters and subplots!! They all could be suspects. I don't trust the psychologist (passive aggressive and too pushy is RIGHT), but clearly Kevin Rahm's character, Bob Harris, seems pretty sinister, but that could be a red hearing!

The bathroom scenes where fantastic and I also loved the little Emma incognito delivering pot in her bug to Dylan scene!! Despite being darker, the show also feels like it picked back up some of it's season one ideas. Reminding the audience of both that this was a logging/hunting town (The Arkanum Club's aesthetic is all log-cabin-esque) and that there were prostitute rings, and getting back to Sheriff-related stuff...

I don't even want to guess what is all going on here, but I am loving the season so far. So many balls in the air!!!!

12. Yes the definition of great nuanced story telling!!!

I'm still holding out that the show may twist up the film's ending a bit.

16. Bates Motel started out the new season in a rather slow, uneventful way but WOW!! this episode has really got things going at last. :) This start of poor Norman and his loss of his own reality is setting up who this guy will become. Kudos to the writers for taking this bold step already with the characters and doing it with these amazing actors. I can't wait to see where this will all end up by seasons end.

I like the idea of Norma and my favorite town sheriff having this awkward relationship between them. I was always hoping for that to develop at some point in the show. I love when they have scenes together!

So I wonder what the deal is with Norman and his fixation on women and their necklaces? I've noticed this each time with each woman and now we see one with Emma and her "new look". I also thought it was kind of funny that the next scene we see Emma in after her reveal is with her all covered up with a sweater! Huh?? Not sure what the writers wanted from her then. I really like Emma and for some reason am worried that she may not survive past this season. The writers specifically made mention of her illness slightly worse in the season premiere.I hope Norman doesn't hurt her at some point either.

I don't mind the introduction of the teacher from Normas college. I think he will try to help Norma and possibly make her realize that Norman needs help but I am expecting "crazy" Norman to get rid of him when he gets too close to them.

My thoughts on Annikas flash drive is that it either reveals the killing of the girl in the lake or even more bad stuff. I'm even wondering if Annika was a call girl at all, or actually investigating the Arcanum group of men in town.

17. I was actually surprised Norman hadn't killed Annika. I mean, that's a REALLY good twist! Now it's all about how Norma is afraid of Norman, and we know and understand that, but we also know that Norman IS a killer. The fact that he might become more dangerous simply because his mother is suspicious of him is really, really interesting.

19. It's interesting that you should say that Norman looked the most like the Norman from Psycho in this episode than he has before, because during that scene I was thinking that the hallucination of Norma looked like she was dressed the same way that 'Norma' was in the movie, hairdo and all.

20. She did, yeah! That's one thing I quite like about this show, they do a great job of finding subtle ways to honor the original film. I remember somebody on another site commenting on how "Hitchcock-esque" the shadows in the office looked when Norma went in there to have her breakdown at the end of this episode. I like to think that if Hitchcock were still alive, he'd be rather pleased with how this show pays respect to such an iconic film.

21. That's a good point, yeah. He's had such an unusually close relationship with his mom, so for her to suddenly start "turning" on him, so to speak, and pulling away...yeah, that'd be enough to make whatever's already boiling in him get even worse.
In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, people, but isn't it true that the original story in 'Psycho' had been inspired by the real life story of Ed Gein? His crimes started after the loss of his mom, with whom he'd had a disturbingly close relationship. So that just adds to your theory about a similar thing happening with Norman and Norma.
