MOVIES: X-Men: Apocalypse - Jennifer Lawrence Confirms It Is Her Final Film In The Franchise

23 Mar 2015

Speaking with MTV News at the red carpet premiere of her new film “Serena,” Lawrence confirmed in no uncertain terms that “Apocalypse” marks her final ride with the “X-Men” movies. “It is my last one, actually,” she said, with no further elaboration.

It’s not a shock to hear that Lawrence and “X-Men” are parting ways, even if it’s difficult to swallow; her work as Mystique has been one of the major highlights of the rebooted franchise ever since “X-Men: First Class.” But with the casting of new mutants Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm, and the time-altering ending of “Days of Future Past,” it sure seems like a new era of “X-Men” is about to begin, while the reign of James McAvoy’s Xavier, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, Nicholas Hoult’s Beast and Lawrence’s Mystique draws to its natural end.

Expected. She hinted at it previously when she mentioned she had a 3 film contract.
Now the question is are the others all leaving too or will they renegotiate their contracts.

  2. I don't see her career slowing down any time soon.

  3. I'm sorta sad but I'm still excited by this series, even if she is no longer in it. I love the X-Men films and Days of Future Past was sooo good. Can't wait for more.

  4. Mcavory,Fassbender, and Hoult have hinted more willingness to reneograte.

Losing Lawrence isn't a great loss to X-men Franchise.

  5. I'm not surprised. And i really liked Jen as the replacement for Rebecca. If/when they get another replacement, i fear for who it'll be.

  6. So saying goodbye to the old generation and onto the new one...Don't know if I'm ready for this.

  7. She did an amazing job. But we shouldn't push it. Lets see what they have in store for future movies.

  8. It makes sense and with Hunger Games ending as well Jen probably wants a break from franchises.

  9. Good, never enjoyed her performance in these movies. Mystique is not a character that always picks ONE human appearance (Lawrences). I miss Rebecca Romjin...

  10. hey, maybe we'll get Rebecca back. Win-Win

  11. Well, there really isn't any actor in this franchise that would be a big loss. Except Jackman of course who IS the franchise but I digress...they went as far to recast pretty much every character at least once. So it's not really depending on actors as a franchise. As long as the directors and creators are on board everything might work out (you hear me Bryan Singer? Stay on board!)

  12. While I'm not negative on her leaving...isn't breaking away from franchises kind of a dumb move? Franchises ensure your relevancy in the business.

Unless your name is Brad Pitt, George Clooney or Angelina Jolie of course. But Lawrence is far away from being in their league

  13. I guess but she has 3 Oscar noms in the space of 3 years so I don't think she is going to struggle to find work. Doing 2 big franchises is a lot of work and I imagine she wants to have a break for a while and focus on other things. I could be wrong and she could sign up for another franchise!

  14. I honestly preferred Rebecca and missed her.

  15. She's already relevant and one of the most recognized female actresses in the world, quitting a franchise after three performances won't ruin her career.

  16. all the good X-Men films with possable exception of the Wolverine have been directed or produced by Bryan Singer.Deadpool might break this.

I am among those who prefer Rebecca Romijn as Mystique anyway. To me unlike hungar games Lawrence seemed to treat this as paycheck.high profile gig similar to natalie portman In Star Wars and thor and kirsten Dunst in spider-man.Jennifer lawrence can act good but her better perofrmances are not In X-Men films even with giving her more to talk and do than rebecca did.

Mcavoy Is the FC actor they need for future films. And getting fassbender back would be worth it far more than Lwrence.Fassbender is only one who has matched his counterpart in earlier films.Mcavoy does great job but he doesn't seem xavier to me like patrick stewart who is one of the great picks from comics to films.

  17. Good news. Goodbye!
    Now come back Rebecca.

  18. No shade towards Jennifer, but I was never clear on why she replaced Rebecca in the first place. Either way..............."good luck on your future endeavors", Ms. Lawrence. Nobody 4 LATER!!!

There are many oscar winners whose carrers went downward after winning an the precious statue (Halle Berry and Charlize Theron come to mind), although I don't think she'll be one, she's too young. TBH I don't blame her for wanting to do more serious work, and she seems like a smart girl, so I'm sure that if she thinks leaving this franchises behind hurts her carrer, she'll find a new one in a heartbeat. Like I said she's a very capable girl.

  20. I love Jennifer Lawrence as an actress she does really well at her job but I do prefer Rebecca as mystique. Jennifer was a great replacement taking over for Rebecca though but hopefully mystique returns to the franchise.

  21. Meh. She might say she's done with the role after X-Men Apocalypse. But if there's another movie, with the character in it, and she needs more money, she'll probably still do it.

  22. Ha! I wouldn't bet on it. But I wish.

  23. You know, personally there's not a single X film I disliked. Yes, I even enjoyed Origins for what it was (a dull action flick). Meanwhile I had my issues with FC (only because it broke style and tone, it was fun...yeah but the characters, with the exception of Magneto/Shaw/Xavier, were pretty annoying. Yeah, I hate FC-Beast and FC-Mystique)

And The Wolverine did tie in with DoFP, so I guess Singer had a hand in it as well.

I'll be absolutely blunt here and admit that I really don't understand the craze around Lawrence. Is she bad? No. But is she good? (as in: better than most female actresses out there) hell no. I would even argue that TV starlets like Nina Dobrev could potentially outact her. So it's absolutely fine on my part to replace Lawrence as Mystique with someone else (Mystique is a character that can be played by virtually everyone...although I'd like Romjin back).

  24. She's not part of the old generation though. She's the first of the new one to leave.

The original Mystique was portrayed by Rebecca Romjin

  25. I was talking about the character, not her.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can see her wanting to put the "franchises" behind her...
