USA NETWORK ANNOUNCES PILOT PICK-UP FOR ‘FALLING WATER’

Drama is From Universal Cable Productions and Executive Producers Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead”), Blake Masters (“2 Guns”) and Henry Bromell (“Homeland”)

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA -- March 11, 2015 -- USA Network announced a pilot pick-up from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead”) of Valhalla Entertainment, Blake Masters (“2 Guns”) and the late Emmy Award-winner Henry Bromell (“Homeland”) for the drama, FALLING WATER. The pilot was written and co-created by Masters and Bromell and is from Universal Cable Productions (UCP). Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) will also executive produce and is set to direct the pilot.

Bromell, who passed away unexpectedly in 2013, reunited with Masters to write the spec script for FALLING WATER, the two previously teamed up on “Brotherhood” and “Rubicon.”

“People have always been fascinated by the subconscious and FALLING WATER explores that topic in very unique and unexpected ways,” said Jackie de Crinis, Executive Vice President Original Series, USA Network, “In this story, the immensely talented and prolific storytellers, Blake and Henry, have created an innovative thriller and compelling vehicle to bring the subject of dreams to television.”

A mind-bending thriller intersecting reality and unconscious thoughts, FALLING WATER is the story of three unrelated people, who slowly realize that they are dreaming separate parts of a single common dream. Each is on a quest for something that can only be found in their subconscious -- a missing girlfriend, a son, a way to communicate with a catatonic mother. However, the more they begin to use the dream world as a tool to advance their hidden agendas, they realize that their visions are trying to tell them something and that their very real lives are at stake.

FALLING WATER joins the previously announced pilot QUEEN OF THE SOUTH which remains in contention at USA. Additionally, the network is adding five new original dramas to its schedule in 2015, including COLONY from executive producer Carlton Cuse (“Bates Motel,” “Lost”), starring Josh Holloway (“Lost”) and Sarah Wayne Callies (“The Walking Dead”); the intense hacker drama MR. ROBOT, starring Christian Slater (“Adderall Diaries”) and Rami Malek (“24”); the unpredictable thriller, COMPLICATIONS, from executive producer Matt Nix (BURN NOTICE) and starring Jason O’Mara (“The Good Wife”) and Jessica Szohr (“Gossip Girl”); and the epic event series that premiered on March 5, DIG, the international murder mystery starring Jason Isaacs (“Awake”) and Anne Heche (“Save Me”), from executive producers Tim Kring (“Heroes”) and Gideon Raff (“Homeland”).

  1. Interesting, but I doubt it will be good.

  2. USA Network really need to figure out a direction for their programming. This doesn't fit in with anything that they have and I can't figure out how they would begin to market it.

  6. Well all of the new shows listed have elements of crime, science fiction/supernatural, action, psychological thriller. It sounds like they are trying to make new and interesting shows to compete with the other networks. they are even starting to get well known talent, but I think their biggest challenge is budget and production values.

  8. The top cable channels (HBO, FX, AMC, Showtime) dont make one kind of show, and I agree that USA is trying to diversify their programming.

  9. Worrying about how to market a series sounds like a major network like CBS deciding between two pilots and going with the one that is easier to market even though they believe the other show is the higher quality show. Cable channels should behave differently from the major networks.

  12. This actually sounds like it could be really awesome. Reminds me of this show I just barely, barely remember called Sleepwalkers on NBC, I think it only aired one or two episodes.

  13. True, but I would argue that Crime Drama, Science Fiction, and Psychological Thrillers are becoming increasingly popular for scripted series in general and that this is USA's attempt to try to update and compete..

These shows listed are not all exactly the same sounding either. Most likely one element/genre/classification will be more personified than others in defining each series.

  14. Hmmm sort of like Awake.

  15. Sounds a bit convoluted, but theoretically it might work.... it sounds like a good fit with the other shows they currently have in development... maybe a good combo can strike a cord and be a hit?
