Empire - Unto the Breach - Review: Andre's Downward Spiral

This week’s of Empire was all about Andre and his bipolar disorder with a new upcoming war with Beretti in the mix.

Unto the Breach starts the hour with Cookie’s revelation that Anika betrayed Lucious with Beretti. Lucious’ and Anika’s relationship seems to be over. But Lucious has still to face the consequences of this betrayal, so he reunites all the staff members in order to save the day. For me, it was the first time I started to sympathize for Anika: at the end of the day, she was truly betrayed by her fiancĂ© by all means possible. Revenge seems fair enough. What will you do in her situation? She was betrayed by Lucious, who slept with Cookie. Twice!

Jamal’s role in this “war” is convincing Delphine to join Empire. She meets her in a pub, and they start to sing together. The next step is talking with his father, that seems to ignore him. Only with an act of strength, finally he gets the right amount of attention. Right now he is the strongest representative of Empire’s family and Lucious should just recognize this. He has also started to kiss a certain photographer. Jamal is on fire!

Andre's downward spiral ended in the meeting hall. He just couldn’t stand his father treatment, so he stopped to take his pills the crucial morning of the Anika's betrayal. The next step for him was lashing out in front of everybody and causing an ambulance to come and sedate him. Right now he is the most vulnerable character on the show, I’m really curious to see how Cookie will handle this family crisis. Andre is the only son without a talent for music. It is impossible not to symphathise with his inferiority complex. He is the eldest brother, but he doesn't have the respect of his father.

Hakeem and Cookie were preventing Tiana to go with Beretti. Finally we had some mother-son moments. I really think they are really cute together. I loved their screen time. This was another great episode of Empire. They have their formula which it is working so well. Empire is a smart and funny soapy drama which it has easily become addictive. I can’t wait to see what the last episodes will be about. Keep growing Empire!

What do you think of Unto the Breach?

  5. I don't care about Andre. He is the least likable character in this show.
