Black Sails - XVII - Advance Preview

21 Mar 2015

Black Sails continues this upcoming Saturday with the ninth episode of the second season. If you thought the last episode was surprising and shocking wait until you see this one. This is by far the shows most thrilling and intensified episode to date. The episode was so shocking that I had to hold my jaw up, as soon as one thing came around something even more shocking followed.

Flint and Miranda sit down with Lord Ashe and try to agree on terms for the future of Nassau. Ashe is grateful to Flint for returning his daughter, but can't overlook the things Flint has done in his past, what he's become. One of them later proposes something which leaves one of them hesitant to give an answer. Someone else then notices something that put's everything that's happened into perspective, which raises some serious questions, but the answers to these questions are not what anyone was expecting.

Eleanor is mourning the loss of her father but still appears high-spirited when she decides to put other matters above her self. One person tries to console her, but instead gets a firm talking to. Later she tries to arrange a deal with someone who could prove to be a great asset.

Elsewhere, Jack is preparing to set sail, but things get slightly complicated when someone makes a move that could ruin everything he's worked so hard to build. Another character also returns to save another's life.

This is by far the most bloodthirsty episode of the season so far for the show, there wasn't a dull moment in it. One character makes their move, another gets kidnapped, and one character wont make it to the finale, when they pay the ultimate price.

A lot more happens, but that's all I'm going to give you as I don't watch to spoil anything, but below are a few dialogue teasers for you all!

"You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies"

"Charlestown lays with one eye open, and a knife under the pillow tonight"

"Everyday I've worn that name, I've hated him a little more"

"Right now Flint's plan is the only plan"

"So I ask again, how is it you came to possess that clock"

"Perhaps this is an opportunity for us all to find a little bit of forgiveness"

As always, thank you for reading! You can catch "XVII" this Saturday at 9pm on Starz

  1. Too busy to guess. I am looking forward to this episode.

Vane will definitely take over the Man-of-War. And the ultimate price will be paid by Mr. Scott.
    Have to run now. :)

  2. Good guesses, as always.

You know, I've always thought there were hardly any Black Sails fans since hardly anyone comments, but the previews are surprisingly popular. Nice to know the show has fans ;)

  3. Oh, I'm DEFINITELY a fan. I love this show. I think it's great to have two LGBT characters as the leads

  4. I love the show as well, it's become one of my favorites.

  5. Thanks. :)

Regarding Vane - I am a bit conflicted about him possibly gaining the Man-of-War. It's like no victory ever sticks long to Flint. The Man-of-War is a formidable ship with its numerous big guns being the main threat - to lose such a prize to Vane would indeed be a catastrophe. IF Vane does win the ship, what will he do with it? How many of Flint's crew will die while defending the ship? What will Flint do without a ship? Is the Urca gold, a prize that will remain forever elusive until it is really taken away by the Spanish? What is going to happen?

So many questions. S2 has been very good. Let's hope it ends well too.

  6. Is the death of this character a game changer, Robert?

  7. Can't wait for it! While not as good as the first series, in my opinion, it's been very entertaining so far!

I normally stink at guessing dialogue, but the only one that sticks out to me is "Everyday I've worn that name, I've hated him a little more" - Flint?

  8. Hmm, going forward I would say yes. The death will have a huge impact on one character in particular.

  9. Fair enough, I think the second season is much better, but that's just me. Why do you like the first season more, if I may ask.

That dialogue teaser by the way is correct, it was indeed Flint who said that.

  10. I think I enjoyed last season more as it felt like one main plot that was moving basically all the characters forward, whereas this season feels like several smaller stories and some characters are very isolated. In terms of performances alone, though, this season is stronger; all the actors really came into their own.
I shouldn't really compare, anyway, it's a brilliant show in the end!

  11. The next episode is jam packed with action, but the finale is even better. So much happens in it, that should answer all of your questions.

  12. I can agree with that, some characters haven't progressed enough like others such as Flint and Eleanor. This season there has been smaller storylines compared to one big one, but I actually prefer that. Smaller storylines allow the show to focus on each character individually, and allows a lot of character development to happen. We also see a lot more of each character than we did with one main storyline.

  13. Very true, it's nice to change things up and have characters grow on their own and not have very similar scenes with the exact same people from last season.

Yeah, I had just about forgotten entirely about Mr. Scott until he showed up again in an episode.

  14. What a great show, literally! I am crazy about pirates stories and Black Sails is becoming more than that.
    Adult, very mature and complex.

Then, Toby Stephens is frankly amazing.

    Thank you, Robert :)

  15. You're welcome :)

Black Sails is very different from a lot of shows out there, which is why I like it so much. Also, I love how with Black Sails they don't hold anything back (swearing, nudity, brutal deaths etc) makes it much more realistic, than these typical "soapy" shows you see all the time.

  16. Me too! That's why I don't like Pirates of The Carribean and I was a little disappointed by Crossbones last year.

  17. I quite liked the Pirates of The Carribean films. They weren't amazing or thrilling, but I mostly looked at them as being comedies.

I didn't get past the pilot of crossbones, it was awful.

  18. Hmm. The death will have a huge impact on one character? Okay, my previous guess was Mr.Scott and his death would be huge for Eleanor but she just lost her father and I don't think she will lose someone else close to her so soon.

So, my guess is now Miranda Barlow being the death and Glint being impacted by it.

  19. You were right, Robert. That was an amazing episode. Wasn't expecting Miranda to be the one to die. Hope the finale is awesome

  20. Glad you enjoyed the episode!

I wasn't expecting her death as well. One minute she was there talking the next... gone. It happened so fast I had no time to process what happened. Flint will now be out for payback, surely.
