SYFY UNCAGES MORE 12 MONKEYS

Critically Acclaimed Time Travelling Thriller From Universal Cable Productions to Return For Second Season

NEW YORK – March 12, 2015 – Syfy announced today that the widely praised adventure thriller 12 Monkeys has been greenlit for a second season, expected to air in 2016.

With Natalie Chaidez prepping her next Syfy series (UCP and Valhalla Productions’ Hunters), Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (Nikita), co-executive producers and writers of the pilot, will be stepping up to serve as EP/Showrunners. Atlas Entertainment’s Richard Suckle (Suicide Squad, American Hustle, The International) and Charles Roven (Suicide Squad, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, American Hustle) will continue to executive produce with Atlas’ Jake Kurily producing. Roven served as producer on the original film.

Currently in its first season, 12 Monkeys has reached 15 million viewers to date, and is experiencing record L3 lifts for the network (average L3 lift is 104%). The renewal also comes as the series continues to gain momentum, with its most recent episode (Friday, March 6) seeing an increase of 6% over the prior four weeks, with 1.5 million total viewers.

"We are absolutely committed to 12 Monkeys, and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned,” said Dave Howe, Syfy President. “The talent both on and off-screen have delivered a series that has us all on the edge of our seats, providing exactly the smart, exciting storytelling Syfy is known for.”

Jeff Wachtel, President and Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, added, “12 Monkeys is a show that has exceeded expectations at every stage. It’s had a great first season creatively, and is building a dedicated audience. We can’t wait to see where – and when! – Terry and Travis will take us next.”

12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford (Nikita, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2), Amanda Schull (Suits, Center Stage) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, Oz, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

In this Friday’s episode* – the ninth in the 13-part first season – Cole (Aaron Stanford) finds himself in 2017 at the height of the plague. Out of options, Jones (Barbara Sukowa) faces an impossible choice to replace the Core. 12 Monkeys airs Fridays at 9PM ET/PT; the season one finale will air Friday, April 10.

12 Monkeys is produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, who produced the original Golden Globe winning theatrical film.‎

  10. So with the second season they'll have turned a two hour movie into about 14 hours of show.

  12. If 12 Monkeys can be renewed which I am happy about, will they renew Helix for Season 3?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm hoping it will, although it's been performing worse than 12 Monkeys. Not sure what DVR numbers are like for it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Same here. Love both but need to catch up, haven't they been rating pretty much the same demo wise? I know Helix hit a 0.1 and bounced back.

  15. YES! Please renew Helix for a final season!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yesss! I watched the last few episodes of season the weekend before last and was so worried Syfy would cancel it due to low ratings. Bless you Syfy!

  17. I need to catch up too. Only show left for me to worry about on Syfy is Helix. If they renewed 12 Monkeys I believe they'll renew Helix too.

  23. I don't know. Syfy have a lot of new shows in store an don't really need to renew Helix.

    ReplyDelete
  24. While I don't hate the show, I thought it was a goner as well.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think it deserves to be renewed really at all.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm really happy about it. We need more eps. It's a great show.

  27. YES!
Now I want the good news from Constantine.

  29. Man I fucking love Reaction GIFs

  30. 12 Monkeys is getting 0.2/0.3. Helix is getting a lot of 0.1's

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think it makes sense for cable channels to not solely look at ratings when it comes to renewing a show for season 2. Try to build buzz and hope they can increase the audience for season 2. The problem with Helix is that season 2 ratings are trending in the wrong direction.

  38. Great news! It's a good show. I hope more people give it a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Very happy and def a nice surprise. Thank you SYFY!! I doubt this will happen, but if you could please renew Helix for a final season and make it as nuts as season 1, I would be eternally grateful.

    ReplyDelete
  40. OMG this is the best news! I thought for sure I was going to lose this show! Yes!

    ReplyDelete
  41. YES now I will buy myself the season on Google Play! Woot. Been wanting to see it but everyone was so sure it would be canceled.

    ReplyDelete
  42. There's so much more going on in the show than the movie. They used the basics of the movie and made it more complex.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If Syfy wants to avoid alienating viewers while trying to build themselves back up, in some cases they need to just bite the bullet and let a few finish out, in the case of Helix, they could just give it one final season. If they just cancel shows willy-nilly people aren't going to come back like they're wanting. Yet at the same time they can't bankrupt themselves... Which is one reason that I'm glad they're greenlighting so many series, but at the same time, they won't be able to keep them all.

  44. Fantastic news for a great show!! I was hoping for this despite the feeling that it might not happen... I hope the show gets some rise in ratings, I do hope that the writers at least craft an endgame plot scenario just in case as it seems more likely that it will be on the bubble most of the time... still, very happy about the news and am looking forward to see where the stories will go

    ReplyDelete
  45. YAY! So happy! I accurately predicted it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i honestly thought it will get canned.

I'm kind of shocked too, not about the shows ratings because they weren't bad I'm shocked that SyFy was even considering giving this show the axe I'm happy they changed their minds and renewed it.
