  1. I like it. I like it a lot.

Sorry for those caling the show a clone of The Americans but I think Allegiance is hovering over Alias territory (where just about every member of the Bristows are spies and it's near-lingering on sci-fi more than just mere spy-fi).

  2. It was ok little bit slow I'll give it chance but I'm going to dvr the show because it's airing the same time Elementary and How To Get Away With Murder

  3. You just made me about 100x more interested in this by comparing it to Alias... Definitely watching it tonight! (While great on many many levels I loved how Alias played a bit with sci-fi elements without depending on them, it elevated the show greatly for me.)

  4. Haven't seen it yet but believe its fate will rest almost entirely on the how well The Blacklist performs over the next few weeks.

  5. I thought it was quite mediocre. Will be passing on this one, too.

  9. 254th show added to mi list.

I like it, I'm always in to the spy stuff. I don't watch the Americans because of my rule not watching recent history based shows.

In a rush so don't got time to say more then that I liked it.

  10. It's mythology may have gone somewhat over the top at times though it seemed you would either hate or not. No middle ground I think.

  13. I THINK, IT IS VERY GOOD

  14. Allegiance might be a little far fetched but it is based on the reality of sleeper agents, not getting the Alias comparison at all.

  15. Allegiance was very good especially for a network drama.

  16. Good thing you mentioned about it. I miss Sleeper Cell.

As for why I thought it's a better comparison to Alias: Sydney's family are all spies/agents, although her parents are on opposing sides. Supposedly, Sydney was trained under a secret program as a child before her memory was wiped.

At least from the pilot, we already know that the parents plus the oldest child are sleeper agents. And then the only son who's working as a CIA analyst is unusually gifted, which is why he became a person of interest by the Russians. So there's that one chance of spy-fi becoming generally sci-fi if the writers are given a chance to explore that angle in later episodes or seasons. :)

  17. I didn't think it was good at all, will pass on this show.

  18. It 's a pretty good start, I really enjoyed it and I loved the cast. Although I have no clue where this series is going on for the second episode. There's a lot of possibilities at the end of the pilot! I also thought about Alias (spies, betrayal and enemies in the same family...) but it's too soon to know for sure about the tone of this show.

  24. I like this show alot I'm already hooked I'm sure The Americans is an alright show but from what little I saw of it I think this is better.

  25. That's what happens sometimes where nobody in their family is all that smart and then here comes a child that's a genius I'm really excited about this show and I'm loving Alex.

  26. It's been two days since the pilot episode aired and I'm still not sure if I like this show or not.

What's good: it's a spy show that (following the model pioneered by The Americans) is told from the the Soviet/Russian point-of-view. This approach "humanizes" the no-longer-threatening Russians, allowing the writers to make all of the characters (the Americans and Russians) as more complex & conflicted than can be done when using a more current enemy...like the use of Islamic terrorists can sometimes force shows like Homeland into making them Boogymen. Also, this Allegiance has the criminally under-appreciated Margarita Levieva and Hope Davis as the female leads; so, I want to see what they do with the characters they're given to play.

But there seems to be several elements missing, at this point. First, the "MacGuffin" as Hitchcock would call it, hasn't jumped out and taken hold of me as a viewer yet. Whatever the Burned Spy [note: really bad timing of this, in light of the current events ISIS murder of a captured aviator] revealed was "in play" just before dying, doesn't seem to be a sufficient "cause" to launch the effect of the Russian Spymasters' action: threatening former agents, and demanding they recruit an innocent son.

Also, as much as I like Levieva and Davis, there doesn't seem to be a Strong Character written to carry the show. Think about Viola Davis' "Annalise" or Kerri Russell's "Elizabeth" or Claire Danes' "Carrie" and I don't see that kind of powerful role present in Allegiance. But, that could develop.

Bottom line: Allegiance seems like NBC's attempt to cash-in on the success of FX's The Americans. The writers will need to do a lot more in story narrative and character development in order to succeed in today's very, very competitive entertainment landscape.

  27. Unfortunately there are nothing to "cash in" on The Americans, aside from the critical acclaims it's audience numbers sucks. And even the critical acclaims are mostly the list of the unjustifiedly snubbed shows, which is nice to hear but doesn't worth a damn. Very sad thing, it is an excellent show.

I wouldn't nitpick whether it was a sufficient "cause", because a) the core concept and starting point of a show is something you either take or leave, it need not be realistic (Castle, Person of Interest, etc.) and b) if anything was surreal it is that they didn't wanted to recruit the guy as soon as he applied for the CIA.

IMHO NBC made a mistake when let Allegiance being compared to The Americans. It's more of a popcorn/action show, closer to the James Bond-like fantasy spyworld. (The merry auto de fé, where all the COVERT agent are invited was typical in this that genre.) It was not bad, but because the first episode was just the setup, the last minutes had changed the complete dynamics, I can't tell know, how will it work?

  28. I thought in the first 10 minutes or so that I was going to be bored. But I was very wrong. I thought this first episode was great! I'll definitely be watching this one.
