Atlantis - Season 2 - Jack Donnelly Interview on how S2 Ends

7 Feb 2015

Was ending Atlantis a collective decision, or were you simply told the show wouldn't be coming back?

"I was literally told 3 weeks ago that it was not coming back, 'cause I was contracted to 5 years, should it go on. I was about to go on holiday with my family.

"I don't know if there's a 'media line' I'm supposed to go with for this, but I'll be totally honest, I was gutted. I loved that job - it was the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. I genuinely enjoyed every second of it.

Without giving away too many spoilers, does the final episode of series two at least bring some closure to the show?

"Not even a little bit of a conclusion! I mean, again, I don't know what I'm allowed to say here, but I'm out of contract now so... yeah, everything is left up in the air. Everything.

"I think the ending is brilliant, but they really set it up - the producers definitely had an idea for what the third series was gonna be. We'd had massive discussions - me and the other actors - about what might happen and that's all left up in the air.

  1. Was sorry when I heard there was to be no 3rd season as season 2 had improved the quality of the show. Now to hear there is absolutely no resolution to the story makes it even worse.

  2. Fucken UK< That's why I can't trust them, and don't start many of their shows. US I understand because there is alot of shows, but UK so few of them. I only for Doctor Who, Sherlock and Orphan now.

  3. It's a shame, the viewing figures were going up again for the tail end of the first half of season 2.

  4. I think a large part of it was the expense, it cost far more than many other shows to buy in from the company who made it. With the government making finances for the BBC so tight they just couldn't afford another season at that level when it wasn't doing well enough. I'm guessing that they'll possibly do an in-house show to replace it now, that way they can sell it on abroad which makes it far more stable than buying a show in themselves.

  5. That's there problem, Its a risk they took.

They should shoot and 11th episode or something for conclusion.

  6. From what I know of how S2 ends I don't think one episode would tie it up in any way really. Not in any way that the actors would want to come back for anyway, they'll already be tied up with their next project I would expect. It's not like lots of other shows get the same treatment every year unfortunately :(

  8. This is hugely disappointing. Does anyone know when the second half of S2 will be returning?
