ReplyDeleteThe 100 was featured at last year's TCA. The only time I know of networks doing show specific panels outside of the first season is when a show has an announced final season.

ReplyDeleteit says heroes and villians so im thinking they are gonna promote the arcs that are coming up on both shows with these quest stars, the winter tca don´t normally feature shows that are not in their first season but the flash/arrow are in sync with each other what to/tvd are doing there i dont know but it kinda screams like the cw knows both to/tvd need some good press or they are pushing julie for a crossover after the flash/arrow success

Its especially funny after Arrow refuses to give Diggle a suit, but David is there. I would have thought Theas story would be important but guess not.

ReplyDeleteI know Felicity may not be a physical kickbutt kind of hero (although the pistol whip she executed on her ex boyfriend was awesome) but she is definitely a hero in a different way and shows strength through her perseverance, mentality, emotions, beliefs/morals, sacrifice (she is willing to put herself in dangerous situations if necessary) etc.. She is also an essential part of Team Arrow. She is herself through and through and does not waver from who she is and what she believes. She is representative of those who want to do good and save people but may not have the skills necessary to do so through the kicking butt method and that contributing in any way that you can is enough. I just find it weird that Emily Bett Rickards is not included in the Arrow/Flash panel.

Thea's journey is a little iffy right now because we don't know her true motives, only that she is being manipulated. But as core team players who display heroics in another way, Emily, Danielle, and Carlos should be involved.

This ISNT an event to "pump up the fans" its an event to sell the press on their projects.
Don't the show exec's decide which actors and writers join them? If so, that explains the Julie Obsession panel.

I can't wait to hear the buzz on iZombie and The Messengers. I want to see what everyone thinks. I also can't wait for Wentworth to be interviewed! That's going to be fun.
If I know my favorite critics, they're going to be bitching that EBR is not on that panel.

It is to encourage the media to take an interest in their shows. They don't do that with shows on the way out, or that they think have a limited shelf life.

ReplyDeleteThose of you angry that TVD/TO has almost no cast at it, take into consideration the fact that's a 5.5 hr flight over 3 time zones twice In 48 hrs from Atlanta to LA & back to Atlanta. That is NOT an appealing option to ANYONE.
ReplyDeleteThose of you angry about the omission of The 100. The CW is there to try & coerce the press to take an interest in its shows. They are NOT going to spend their time pumping up shows that are ending soon. All the shows in the panel are safely going to have another 1+ seasons after this. The 100 is probably 70/30 to be canceled. That's why its not there.
Those angry that Flash/Arrow doesn't have Emily, Willa, Danielle or Candice. Again, the panel is to sell things to the critics there, NOT hype up fandoms, this isn't Comic-Con or the Peoples Choice Awards. They are using their time to talk about the story lines that matter, not pointless romances or secondary characters. All of the people are vital to the hero/villain story arcs of their shows, the 4 women ARE NOT. If they were all killed off, the story arcs would not be affected in any way.Thus why they were not invited.
TVD/To panel-Of course ian and joseph would attend only,if it were up to CW,they might as well scrap the other cast members from the show(s)-what's a press tour?

ReplyDeleteI'm not angry about any show being there or not being there. I do find the glaringly obvious lack of female characters there, a problem for me. I don't care which characters or which show. Also, I will point out that almost all of the CW films in the same locale. Your flight theory doesn't hold merit. TVD films on the east coast and those actors are more than used to flying coast to coast. The rest are coming from Vancouver. Again, used to it.

ReplyDeleteFirst,Reign was the fifth highest rated show,getting better ratings & DVr numbers than Jane is now when it was given an early renewal also,doing very well online and idk how well Jane does digitally.Jane is tied with Reign as the lowest rated cw show& has already been under a million Viewrs once.Jane and Reign are Caws seventh highest rated shows.

ReplyDeleteIt would have been great to have Supernatural present but I suppose they said it all already during the summer press tour. Season ten, the 200th episode, demon Dean. The mark of Cain is the only thing going on right now. It seems that a plot twist would be the only way to make that storyline exciting again so it wouldn’t be a rehash of season nine.

There was a similar event like this one. So the question is: what's happening 'cause there will be no SPN tomorrow. Also, they promised another spin-off and many other things to come.

ReplyDeleteTVD is having its 6 season, as far as I know. There a lot of people who watch it. TVD and SPN are both the most popular shows for the chanel so I don't think that either of them will be cancelled.

CW show popularity/ratings ranking currently is #1 Flash, #2 Arrow, #3 SPN, #4 TVD. If TVD is safe with it's ratings currently far behind the other three shows, then SPN is safe.

ReplyDeleteThis is not a fan event, so for shows like Arrow need to sell things to the critics like, for example, Ray Palmer and Laurel Lance; two characters that aren't getting enough press(especially Laurel). Don't know why Willa isn't going, but i get why Emily, Danielle and Candice aren't. They don't need for the press to ask about Felicity, Iris or Caitlin. They need to sell Laurel as Black Canary, Ray Palmer as The Atom and Ronnie as Firestorm.

Im 20 , whats your point? I know people who are invested and are "properly" aged. Whats your point again? People enjoy different things and should be respected. Not disgraced and categorized as "teens" ro "fangirls". Also how do you know they are fraction of the audience? Did you take statistics or something? Did you take statistics about what the audience like in the show? Or being invested in the romantic part of a show excludes you from enjoying the show as a whole?

ReplyDeleteWell, Tom and John are the "villains"... And David is lacking some sort of story this year, maybe they drop some HIVE/Suicide Squad hints there. Like it or not, this year a lot of the media picked up on Felicity or Olicity... I get sites like EW, E Online or TV Line(to give some examples) like Felicity, but i rarely see any propaganda about Laurel being Black Canary, for example. IGN is the only site that covers that story everytime they can.
ReplyDeleteThey just don't need to sell Felicity: They need to tell Digg IS having a storyline this Season, they need to sell Laurel as Black Canary, they need to explaine why they made Barrowman a regular when he wasn't used much, they need to promote Ray Palmer since they have a potential third show there, they need to promote Ra's, etc. Don't know why Willa isn't there. Flash is Flash and it's totally different.
When Felicity's episode came out, the sites made articles about "1 exclusive promotional photo" for the episode, ONE. They released articles, clips, interviews and Routh even went to a morning talk show to promote the show that week.
I love Felicity Smoak, but when it comes to media, the character is even more talked than Oliver itself.
I seriously think that they could use time wasted in Felicity for other characters that need it more.
Or maybe Emily has a meeting in LA for another project so she can't go, who knows? I'm just talking without actual knowledge here... just giving an opinion.
I hear you, but I afraid they have nothing new to tell. At least they are not there to announce the last season or something. May be Pedowitz will spare his precious 2 minutes and say something during his panel. I bet some questions will be asked regarding SPN, at least its future since show going beyond even veteran status already.

No one is filming. The fact that they didnt even invite any female from Flash is troubling. How is Cassidy main female on both shows? She hasnt even been on the Flash?
ReplyDeleteNo why didnt they invite Katrina? She is bad ass as Nyssa as has an important role together with Ra. The actor who plays Ra is attending so why not Katrina. She seemed to be very loved by the fans.

ReplyDeleteTCA stands for Television Critics Association. At the winter ones, executives basically promote new shows and talk about the past half season and midseason as well. If we're lucky we'll get some midseason premiere dates and/or renewal news.
ReplyDeleteYeah which is why it makes sense to do a panel on a sophomore and a long long graduate. TVD & TO are not the shows that people need to take an interest in. People WERE interested untill Julie Plec ruined both shows. If the CW wants media to shine a light on TO & TVD, then the best headline forr their press release would be 'Julie Plec fired from TVD/TO'.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is a show that is nearly pulling the same ratings as The Originals, but it's just not there yet because of a HUGE lack of promotion from the CW's side (CW, take note from the UK & France). TVD is a lost cause (hello, they can't even get one of the three main casts to sign on another season) and TO could be saved given other people behind the wheel. All that whilst The 100 has a fanbase that is growing exponentially, and rising in numbers in it's second season after surviving the midseason masacre that was CW @ summer 2014.

ReplyDeleteIt's not my only tv curse. I also pick characters, who are going to die horrible death, as my favorites. That's why I prefer to watch shows for a plot, not 'ships', actors or characters.
Me too but the thing is,sometimes you can't help which characters you get attached to or dislike.Like for some reason,i don't like the character tyler/michael trevino at all so it's difficult for me to watch him in a 42 min episode but i didn't set out to hate him when i started watching the show,it just happened.Another example,i never liked emily and jack together on Revenge,i clearly knew they would be end-game back in season 1 but still couldn't get into the idea of them as a couple but i always wanted daniel with emily,and now he's dead.So,you're not alone in this problem.But what can you do antway,it's not in our hands.

ReplyDeleteNot really. I'm pretty sure the 100 is on the bubble and no decision has been made. It isn't a new show, which are the main shows being featured at the TCA. Plus it already only had a 16 episode order this season. They only have so much time at the TCA's so they are concentrating on new shows, shows they hope can grow (Flash Arrow) and shows that are big names that may need some publicity help (TVD and TO). I think The 100 being renewed will be based on Reign and how the new shows do.
ReplyDeleteCarver is really stingy with spoilers, so there is no reason to bring him for that. SPN just keeps on without too much publicity. I expect we will get an announcement on renewal at some point. There haven't been rumors of the Js not signing for next season, the show has good ratings, there has bee no announcement of this being a final season, if there is a spinoff it hasn't been settled yet, basically there isn't much to announce at the TCA.

ReplyDeleteYeah I don't get it. The 100 is it's most critically acclaimed show at the moment, after Jane. It was on every "Best tv of 2014" type of list. The show wins almost every poll it's in too.

ReplyDeleteHAHAHA Felicity is NOT the female lead, Laurel is. Laurel is the one with character development, she always had her own story going on .... Felicity is just Oliver's secretary at this point, which is lame because I love her character and writers should develop her more than just a potential love interest, but the Olicity shippers are down with everything as long Oliver + Felicity are together right? Who cares about her ... just put her with Oliver and you guys are fine.

Honestly I doubt Thea killed Sara, too me at least, that video seemed fake, but who knows, maybe KC was the only one with a purpose for the panel. Out of all the female characters Laurel is the only one going in full hero mode in the next episode so maybe they've decided to promote that ... I agree with the Flash though, Candice should be there since, like Katie Cassidy, she's the Flash leading lady.

ReplyDeleteLaurel is a boring as fuck character and has way less screen time than Felicity. There is really no basis for your statement. Felicity has her storyline with Palmer, Thea with Merlyn, the black canary storyline is for far the lamest. I get that she's and important comic character, but Katie Cassidy simply can't pull it off, making her the female lead would be a huge mistake.

Ok dear, your opinion is your opinion but in the end of the day, Laurel is the female lead. Katie Cassidy is the lead, second billed, highest paid actress on the show. PLEASE don't act like Emily is Meryl Streep because she's not ... her emotional scenes on the Sara episode maybe me laugh like crazy.

I'm wondering what you expect to happen. where do you think the black canary storyline will go? at the very best/worst she becomes another sidekick for Oliver like Roy. The core of team arrow will always be Oliver, Diggle and Felicity.

you completely miss the point of it all. The story arcs.
ReplyDeleteAKA "Arrow/Arsenal/Diggle/Black Canary VS Ras al Ghul/Malcolm" or "Flash VS Reverse Flash" will NOT be affected from happening. The characters might have personal impact for a little while from 1 of their deaths. But the STORY ARCS can still happen, will still happen and would not be affected by the absence of these characters on a grand scale.
Also, romance can have its place. Theres a difference though between 1-5% of an ACTION SUPERHERO DRAMA being focused on that, and 20%+ which seems to be what the CW writers do because the network loves 12-25 yr old women ONLY and want that demographic to be appeased so they don't get 12493 whiny tweets the next day. They need to quit writing for the One Tree Hill crowd & start writing for the people who actually watch action superhero dramas.
Yeah i mean i think youve been mistaken my friend. You may see a character like Felicity as a secondary character that olny serves the romance plot, but others see her as an independent strong character who serves a purpose on the story and you cant speak for them. What's the purpose? She is part of the team who happens to deal with the story arcs. So you might want to reconsider what you say because you obviously miss the part where people are intersted in the story of a show at first and get hooked because of the main elements that represent it, but at the end of the day their favorite characters are the ones to keep them watching. Also i understand that specific portion of fans are more vocal than other but that doesnt mean they are a small minority. I will ask you what i said to someone else on this board, have you personally taken statistics about what people enjoy on the show? Have you been out in the streets asking people their opinion about certain elements of it? Do you think that because certain people are interested in a specific element of the show(romance) others dont enjoy this element too?Do you wish a show involve only a certain element(for example only 42minutes of action?). Do you know how tv shows work because a good tv show is one that combines many things and attracts different kinds of viewers? You see this character this way, i see other characters this way, but im not labeling fans who enjoy them either fanboys or teens, i respect them. You should, too.
ReplyDeleteUm...your Arrow story arc wouldn't be impacted by any character's death at the current moment because it doesn't exist. Arrow lost to Ra's and is dead and therefore not VS anything. Arsenal and Diggle are said to be barely holding Starling City together and Black Canary doesn't exist yet. But the actual stories on Arrow, like Oliver's hero arc and the fallout from Sara's death would be effected. And lots of drama geared towards children and adults of both genders from the dawn of civilization have used romance as a driver of dramatic tension, including and especially on action-based dramas.
ReplyDeleteI think they get paid to do press for their shows as it is part of their jobs. Lots of people take business trips for their jobs (and a 3-hour time difference is nothing). The networks would have had whomever they thought it important to have there.

ReplyDelete2-If an actor/actress is credited with starring roles and not recurring or guest, they are not a secondary character. Also, secondary is subjective. They may not be number one for you, and truly who cares if they are, but they're someone's favorite. Therefore not secondary to them.
3-I don't care if you run 5 fan boards. I don't care about percentages. I said I can't speak for others but I can speak for myself. I am not a shipper so don't generalize me and lump me into that category.
you are quite literally thinking of ONLY the last episode.... and not the 23 episode season that the writers would have coursed out in May/June and have likely stuck to more or less.
ReplyDeleteOliver VS Ra's isn't over. We all know it. Again, they are vital to the story arc. The secondary characters aren't. Any 1 of them could die & the show still wont lose its focus.

ReplyDeleteIf all stars were actually picked legitimately, the 6th top scorer on a team wouldn't be going ahead of the teams top scorer. Theres a reason every year when an all-star team is announced, tehres 4 to 6 players that everyone says "wtf are they ding there?" and its because everyone ahead of them on the list said "no thanks".
