The After - Amazon Cancels Series Order

5 Jan 2015

Amazon Studios has cancelled its series order for The After, a supernatural drama from X-Files creator Chris Carter. The After received a green light from Amazon back in March, after its pilot received positive reaction via the streaming service’s unique preview process. Only the pilot wound up produced, however.

  3. I wondered where the hell this was, I was so so about the pilot it had some good bits but the acting was overall pretty bad. Still its a shame we won't get to see more of it, guess Amazon's way of doing pilot season hit its first snag.

  4. The first real fallout due to Amazon's pilot season structure...
Frankly, I'm a little surprised there hasn't been more.

The delay time between making pilots and the start of Season 1 production after the public vote has come in and Amazon picks a series up seems so much longer than other networks. Actors and creative staff could latch on to other projects in the meantime. I'm not sure Amazon has priority position locked in with all the talent. Even with the best of intentions delays usually only lead to problems.

Personally, even if I found the premise intriguing, I found the pilot almost unwatchable due to the bad acting and writing.

  6. Oh, no! I was waiting for this, the pilot had me hungry for more. Dammit Amazon, that was literally the only decent show you actually managed to produce, IMO.

  8. The concept was interesting, but the Pilot was probably the worst I've seen in my entire life acting and writing wise.
Can't say this news really surprises me.

  9. Right now Amazon's strategy when it comes to streaming is to throw a ton of money at it. I wouldn't be surprised if they have hold contracts for actors and crew.

  12. This is true. Even in Transparent a couple of important roles had to be re-cast due the time lapse.
