MOVIES: Captain America: Civil War - Black Widow Confirmed to Appear

15 Jan 2015

Joe and Anthony Russo were in Beijing today when the Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors were pressed about returning to helm the 2016 follow-up, which they reassure will commence principal photography in April. "We've been preparing for the movie since the last one debuted last year," said Anthony. "So, we've been working on it for a long time now. We're very happy how it's coming along. Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War and it's going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film." It had been reported previously that Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, was expected to play a part in Civil War, but it's nice to know for sure that she won't be killed off in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Furthermore, after promising that Bucky aka the Winter Soldier, will play a big part in the movie, the Russo duo were asked what new element will Civil War bring to the Captain America franchise. In response, Joe Russo stated the obvious: "The new element in this film is that Captain America and Iron Man get into a fight with each other." About that fallout, co-writer Stephen McFeely promises that it will be... "untidy." Anyhow, watch the full interview with the Russos below where they address whether or not China will have any influence on the movie.

  3. Oh thank god she won't die in Age of Ultron like some people have been speculating over the past couple weeks. Can't wait to see some of her backstory and Civil War is going to be all kinds of epic.

  4. Im so happy to hear, yesterday I got really worried thinking she would die in Age of ultron...what a relief.

  5. So will the cap die in this one? I've heard people saying he won't be in the next avengers because he's dead...

  6. People thinking that prominent Marvel characters are killed off to never return is just...dull

We're talking Marvel, the company that had Spiderman make a deal with the effing DEVIL to save Aunt May from dying and all he had to give up was his marriage.

Seriously, if someone dies this person is not going to stay dead

  7. What about Sam Wilson / Falcon?

    ReplyDelete
  8. So he'll die but not really?

  9. There're dozens of possibilites, I'll just name a few:

Cap is killed but his body remains intact, he's buried and assumed death. Little do people know the supersoldier serum within his body was slowly restoring his body and healed the critical injuries he suffered having him rise from his grave a few years later.

or: he's killed and blown up to pieces, only to be brought back by Thanos as a pawn to taunt the Avengers, as they defeat Thanos Steve is free again

and so on and so on and so on

  10. Now Sharon Carter, please.

  11. That makes me happy. She's a total badass and I enjoy her Natasha's chemistry with Steve.

  12. Thanks! I guess we'll have to see how it goes... I remember reading somewhere that Chris Evans had signed for a limited number of movies, so I suppose that will factor in too. Although I think Hugh Jackman said something of the sort too, and he keeps on going back for more...

  13. Gwen Stacy. But normally yeah. Even Jason Todd came back. And so will Damian Wayne apparently.

  15. Yes my Favorite Avenger is confirmed. I pretty much knew they wouldn't kill off the only female on the team

    ReplyDelete
  16. What do you mean. He basically was confirmed considering he's the one talking about the movie in the beginning of the article

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ikr. They can't just introduce her and not move on with her character. She has to be confirmed

    ReplyDelete
  18. Please. I'm all for having more of Emily VanCamp in the MCU, especially if her character is supposed to be related to Peggy.

  19. These are also the people that killed off Coulson in the last Avengers movie only to bring him back to give him his own TV show. There's a reason why there is a #Triplives campaign going on right now.

Also the guy who killed off the title character of his TV show only to resurrect her not once, but twice is heavily involved in this universe.

There used to be an old saying that nobody stays dead in comic books except for Uncle Ben and Bucky. We all know how accurate that statement is now.

  20. Good that Jeremy Renner's expected to have a role in the film -- Clint's in desperate need of more appearances and especially actual character development.

No word on yet on Anthony Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson? I'd be pretty bummed out if he just kind of disappeared for a while without mention. Also hoping Emily VanCamp returns.

  21. Anthony Russo is one of the directors. Anthony Mackie is the actor who played Sam Wilson. Neither of the Russo brothers says anything about Falcon or Anthony Mackie. On Anthony Mackie imdb page it just says "rumoured" against this project.

  22. Until Captain Marvel arrives, I have a feeling she is.

We are getting Scarlet Witch in AoU, but I don't think the twins will appear a lot outside of the Avengers movies.

  23. I believe Anthony Mackie already revealed he'll be in the movie. He was recently talking about shooting locations in an interview.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well duh.

Obviously she's going to appear. It wouldn't be civil war without some more superheroes.

  25. Thanks. I went on a bit of a google and found this out. I just hope that he gets a chance to develop his role. These films are getting crowded!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh. I got confused. I guess I heard Anthony and just asumed it was the actor. Thanks for the corection. But I just heard that Falcon will reprise his role in another article so it doesn't really make a difference

  27. If they kill Black Widow in the next four years I will be absolutely devastated.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why only that time-frame?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Natasha on the run with Steve AWESOME!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I mean seriously you should just win a billions and billions of dollars and fire everyone at Marvel and you should run the studio how you see fit lol.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If rumors are right then she will be in prison for aiding Steve Rogers which allows Scarlett to take some time off and spend time with her family. Which i believe she been hinting for a while that she wants some time off.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Simply because I only got caught up with the MCU (all the movies, AoS, the one shots) over this past month, she's one of my favorites (aside from Peggy) and four years seems about enough time that it wouldn't absolutely be emotionally devastating for me haha :)

  33. I read that Cap is killed at the end of the movie by Crossbone and will be back in Infinity Wars Part 2

    ReplyDelete
  34. That is the rumour bit the next Avengers is a two parter so I expect he will turn up in the second part. Cap never stays dead.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Some people have speculated Scarlet Witch could turn up in Doctor Strange because of the whole magic thing and that is the only non Avengers movie I can see her fitting in which would be cool if it happened.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sam is definitely in it, Mackie spoke the other day about it and the locations they are shooting at.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Especially when she had all of 5 minutes of screentime in CA: TWS.

    ReplyDelete
  38. you sure? wasn't that just some fan thing and not canon?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sharon Carter is Peggy's niece its in the comic books and lm sure they are keeping it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  40. No confirmation about Sharon Carter? I love Black Widow but I'm disappointed there haven't been a lot of Steve and Sharon scenes yet :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. As @Anesu7 said there, the Agent 13 character in the comics is actually named Sharon Carter, and is Peggy's niece. Or great niece? I'm not sure -- haven't yet read the comics, just going off of what others have said.

I don't think VanCamp's Agent 13 was given an actual name in Winter Solider, but I reckon they wouldn't change the lineage. They were probably just playing coy until they're more certain that Agent Carter will work out well before they unsuccessfully shoehorn in heritage love stories or the sort.
