Next All-New BROOKLYN NINE-NINE Airs Sunday, January 25, on FOX

FOX has ordered a third season of the award-winning comedy BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, it was announced today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group.

Season-to-date, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is averaging a 2.7/7 in Viewers 18-49, up +17% in the key demographic versus last season, and generating the largest year-to-year gains of any sophomore series. Additionally, the series’ Jan. 4 broadcast delivered a Live +3 rating of 3.6/9 in Adults 18-49, the show’s highest Live +3 rating of the season.

In “Defense Rests,” the next all-new episode of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, airing Sunday, Jan. 25 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Sophia’s (guest star Eva Longoria) job gets in the way of her relationship with Jake (Andy Samberg), so Jake tries to smooth things over with her boss (guest star Chris Parnell, “Archer”). FOX ORDERS A SECOND SEASON OF HIT DRAMA “GOTHAM”
Next All-New Episode Airs Monday, January 19, on FOX

FOX has renewed hit drama series GOTHAM for a second season, it was announced today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group.

In the next all-new episode of GOTHAM, “What The Little Bird Told Him,” airing Monday, Jan. 19 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, in an attempt to get his job back, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) seeks to capture Jack Gruber (guest star Christopher Heyerdahl), a deranged electrical genius who escapes Arkham Asylum. Meanwhile, Falcone (John Doman) struggles to hold onto his empire after Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) makes her next move.

Averaging a 4.2 rating in Adults 18-49 and 10.6 million viewers, GOTHAM is this season’s No. 1 broadcast drama overall among Men 18-49 and Men 18-34. The debut episode, which exploded into Premiere Week with a 6.0/18 rating among Adults 18-49, outperformed “The Blacklist” and “Scorpion” and delivered FOX’s highest-rated fall drama debut in 14 years. This Live +7 rating reflects the largest post-three-day ratings gain (+0.9) of any broadcast drama, ever.

GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), GOTHAM follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. The series stars Ben McKenzie (“Southland,” “The O.C.”), Donal Logue (“Vikings,” “Sons Of Anarchy”), Jada Pinkett Smith (“Hawthorne,” “Collateral”) and Robin Lord Taylor (“The Walking Dead”).

GOTHAM is based upon the characters from DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Executive producer Bruno Heller wrote the pilot, which was directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” franchise, “Nikita”). John Stephens serves as an executive producer on the series. “Like” GOTHAM on Facebook at facebook.com/GOTHAMonFOX. Follow the series on Twitter @Gotham and join the discussion using #gotham. 1. Wow no Sleepy Hollow?

    ReplyDelete
  2. THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Anything else would be a complete surprise. But I don't like this premature renewing, think they should've waited a couple of more eps.
But hell the buzzz and ratings are awesome and why not!

    ReplyDelete
  4. don't like all three.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Wow, that was fast :D
Great news, the show is amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  6. lmao after 2 episode Empire is renewed

    ReplyDelete
  7. Biggest surprise so far in terms of renewals. Seems like it was passed over so far.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sleepy will be renewed.

Fox knew they'd get more buzz by renewing these 3 series first.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yay for Brooklyn Nine Nine, at least I have one network comedy left whilst all the others get killed early. Gotham is still so average for me but maybe it can improve. Empire is going way too soap opera territory so not sure how long I will stick it out.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes to Gotham (really need to catch up on B99) but can't wait to hear news about Bones, Mindy Project, and Sleepy Hollow.

    ReplyDelete
  11. All I want is a Sleepy Hollow renewal. Not into the others.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Empire was the first broadcast drama this season to hit a 4.0

Even if it falls it will still be much much much higher than Fox's current scripted average.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I dropped it early in the season but I was going to binge-watch it if it was renewed, which is still pretty certain I think.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mindy will definitely be renewed. You know, syndication.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That worries me too. It has had a bit of a sophomore slump, but I still love it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yup, and Weird Loners is certain to premier DOA, too!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Not surprised at all.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think they just didn't want to renew too much at once, otherwise it would look bad later on with just all cancellations. It's still pretty safe for renewal imo

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not seeing Sleepy Hollow renewed doesn't worry me as much as I expected.
The second season has been awful and if it doesn't improve, I wouldn't mind if it gets cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Worryingly FOX are holding off on a Sleepy Hollow renewal. They are implementing new creative changes for the show.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Great for Gotham & Empire! I am a bit concerned about Sleepy Hollow, after FOX said that they need more ratings data.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Do those creative changes include 22 episode seasons?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Broklin really works on Sundays, Gotham and EMPIRE were sure things! i hope EMPIRE stays a 12 episode series, less filler chapters and more inetresting storylines.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It has dropped a lot from Gotham. So I can see why they would want more data. As I wrote before, there has to be a contract issue or cost issue here in which even though the ratings are OK, they aren't high enough to justify continuing immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fox will give it 22+ eps because they need the ratings.

Let's hope the writers can keep things interesting without stretching the storylines and adding filler

    ReplyDelete
  26. Aww crap. I only care about Sleepy Hollow, if they get renewed I know TPTB will work on WHAT NOT TO DO for the third season. Also hoping they renew New Girl. Bones, idk, that's a question mark. They could get renewed, but I'd probably be okay with it if it ended. As for Gotham, It depends how the rest of th season goes, if iI decide to watch season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Great news!Congratulations to all the fans whose shows got renewed!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The only change they mentioned was to make the show more episodic than serialized.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It has, and when you compare it to season 1 the ratings have dropped a lot. Hopefully these new changes they are making will help bring the ratings up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sleepy is a self starter (it gets ghe same ratings even when it has repeats for a lead-in) so I don't think its rentention from Gotham should be an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I watch all 3 and i love all 3 so this is amazing :)

But i hope Gotham can improve, because i am a bit disappointed with it's quality

    ReplyDelete
  32. That could mean full seasons I suppose. Maybe it'll become more like Grimm and Supernatural which both have made it to syndication relatively successfully.

If Sleepy is going to make it the long haul it needs full 22 episode seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "Fox are very excited, and looking forward to another season of Bones, but can't announce yet due to contract negotiations with stars David and Emily".

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looks like next season may be the final season of Bones if they can get it renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It does. A lot of people have said on twitter that this season has been poor compared to last, and are blaming Katrina for that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Did they really say that? They are getting cocky with the Empire numbers. I really think Sleepy Hollow should be an easy renewal. But then again, so is New Girl who will certainly be renewed and that one wasn't announced now either.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Isn't the whole point of Sleepy Hollow to be camp and serial in approach? Turning it into a straight procedural would ruin the tone completely. If that is FOX's only option to potentially renew, I think that it's best to move on and let the actors go to another project.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Time to raise their paychecks. Haha

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't get when people say that shows can only work as 13 episode series. The producers can just say "sure we will do 22 episode seasons" and then simply do two 11 episode season within one like OUAT is doing. That is by far the best model. You still get the show to syndication without escalating costs and you still get the benefits of no fillers/ keeping the tone. It's simply two seasons within one.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Fox was just looking for buzz with this announcement IMO.

They handed early renewals to their 3 buzziest and highest rated live action shows for positive PR and that's all.

Sleepy, NG, and Mindy will certainly be renewed as well.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not just Twitter, all over, seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's exactly what I want The 100 to do but I don't think that will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm stoked for all 3 of them. I'm also expecting renewals for Bones (final season), The Mindy Project, Sleepy Hollow and New Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Empire" and "Gotham" were pretty safe bets so extra happy for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine". Great show that I'll need in my life even more once "Parks and Recreation" is over.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The CW somehow seems happy with the 100's different model, as it probably gives them greater scheduling flexibility. But I would feel better if the show started doing what I said, if only because it would get a higher episode count sooner rather than later, hence improving its renewal chances.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yup B99 is my rebound show since Parks is ending. I'm so happy it's doing well.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have my fingers crossed for Sleepy Hollow.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's not 100% confirmed, but it's what Journalists at the TCA were talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And what is more important it managed to get significant higher numbers than the pilot for the second episode.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I haven't liked her at all this season, her trying to save Abraham after all he has done is utter rubbish, even if she might have loved him once.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's the only reason I want it to happen to, I'm happy that they are letting Jason do it the way he wants to though, makes the story and pace better.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's all over twitter, were following the TCA tweets so we can make a roundup for the tweets about the Executive session.

    ReplyDelete
  53. YAY for all three!! Especially B99 because it's always a little bit in danger.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It stopped being campy fun early this season. It now takes itsself far too seriously and has become more of a soap opera. It is in need of a huge overhaul to get it back to season 1's success. I am fine if that means becoming more procedural as long as they get the fun and the aciton back instead of all this boring emoangsting,

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yaaaay for Gotham! It wasn't a surprise, but still happy for the renewal! <3

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow I could not be happier. I'm really enjoying both Empire and Gotham, and even though i'm not caught up on B-99 it's so funny and it's nice to find a legitimately fun comedy sticking around with Parks and Rec ending and Community's future after season 6 uncertain.

    ReplyDelete
  57. See this tweet.

    https://twitter.com/TVWatchtower/status/556515634951880704

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think 22 episodes would be the death of Sleepy Hollow. They are already having trouble filling the episodes they've got. Hence we get the same conversation in every single episode.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh god, I´m starting to freak out about Sleepy Hollow, if they haven´t renewed it already, maybe they won´t :(

    ReplyDelete
  60. I blame the writers being on social media and listening to the most vocal fans.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yay!!! Great news.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I hate her. I can't take her. The whole thing with Abraham, omgggg. I couldn't. The last time I liked her is when she was in purgatory. The last time I tried to continue to like her...I don't even remember. I think I stopped liking her during the season finale. And this whole season, forget about it. The last episode with Orion I wanted to scream.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not surprised at any of them.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm so happy for Empire! Every song from there is stuck in my head. I follow Gotham, but I'm concerned about the quality.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Any word on how many episodes ordered?

    ReplyDelete
  66. They need to just go for broke and make Katrina Team Evil. It would release Crane from the marriage, which drags him down, and maybe let him go a little darker. I say this not as a shipper, because I don't want him to hook up with Abbie any time soon. I just like his character more without the coupledom. And i'd prefer Katrina go evil. I love when a "good" character goes bad. (Angel on Buffy was a great example of this.)

    ReplyDelete
  67. It has a similar dynamic to Parks, so I also rebounded to it! Hoping for a Mindy renewal too. NBCU make great comedies, even though they seem unable to break them out on their own network haha!

    ReplyDelete
  68. That's great. I watch all three shows.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Can't imagine SH going anywhere. Ratings are still up there for Fox (better on average than Bones) plus Fox OWNS it, right? It's the closest drama they've got to the magic syndication mark too. I just can't picture it not getting another season. But I absolutely would like it to rely less on the serialized stuff. I enjoyed a lot of the standalones last year. Those also tend to be lighter and offer a great excuse to watch the magic of crane and Abbie solving mysteries, which is the best part of the show for me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The 22 episode TV season works for procedurals and comedies but I dont think it works for serialized shows. The split season with two storylines was a clever idea but the writers still have to come up with two major story arcs per season times 7 seasons....eventually they are going to run out of ideas or just repeat themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yeah. Brooklyn Nine Nine is great.. Gotham is great and Empire is AMAZING! Really happy about it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don´t really like stand alone episodes, I like them when there´s at least a little bit of the main storyline involved.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yay to Gotham and Empire!! I'am really surprised at how much I love them. I really need to catch up on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. And I'm starting to get really worried about Sleepy Hollow :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. I like your reasoning behind why you'd want Katrina to go dark side, particularly the idea of Ichabod going a bit darker as a result, but at the same time, while you're not looking at it through shipping goggles, I'm afraid doing that would encourage the shippers out there even further. I kind of prefer the idea of either leaving her ambiguous, sort of a double agent of sorts, or working with the team, and becoming the big, powerful witch who can use her manipulative abilities for good.
But if they can find a way to make her turn evil or dark without doing it just to satisfy shipper demands, then I could possibly get behind the idea.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think that's a big issue, too, yes. I like that we live in a technological age where people who work on shows and their fans can connect and express appreciation and so forth, but yes, some fans get way too demanding and too many writers, on many shows, let them dictate how to run the series, forgetting it's not the fans writing the show, it's, well, the show writers.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I hope so. I still like "Sleepy Hollow", and I think it deserves another chance to iron out some of its issues. Every series has a bumpy point somewhere along the line, after all, and some can redeem/have redeemed themselves, too.

    ReplyDelete
  77. YAY B99 & Gotham! Congratulations! :)
Also, I don't plan to watch Empire but congrats as well ;)

    ReplyDelete
  78. It's not performing too bad, I mean...I'd love for it to survive but frankly I dropped it after season 2s second episode. Just didn't manage to keep my attention.

However it's doing better than RBS and Bones

    ReplyDelete
  79. Not surprised by any, except maybe that Empire's renewal came quickly.
Really glad to see B99 renewed :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm happy about Gotham.

I'm surprised Empire was renewed when I think only 2 episode have aired.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Don't forget Mindy Project! Via syndication rule it is a certain renewal; I'm surprised it the renewal hasn't come yet

    ReplyDelete
  82. If they are going to make the show more episodic maybe they'll go for a 22 episodes season so they can get it syndicated faster

    ReplyDelete
  83. If it continues to be as dreadful as it is right now, the show should cease to exist. And I was a big fan of the show

    ReplyDelete
  84. The thing with 13 vs 22 episodes has to do with time; how much time do you have to write the episodes? Having 13 per seasons give more time to plan out carefully how the arc is going to be developed, but having 22 means that you have less time and more work to do to prepare the arcs and the storylines. Having split seasons like OUAT is huge work, as you have to, essentially, plan two seasons in the span of one season; in essense, it is the best model, but it depends on the writers ability to handle that job, otherwise you may end up with weak scripts due to lack of time and the pressure of finishing them in time to make the episodes on schedule

    ReplyDelete
  85. 22 episodes is a done deal they may even be worried the show will loose traction if it premieres midseason again.
    Hpe everything holds up regardless.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anddd look what I just found. Have you read this?

    http://insidetv.ew.com/2015/01/17/fix-sleepy-hollow/

    ReplyDelete
  87. Empire's ratings for both eps were just so HUGE though. For a network in such trouble, it makes sense to try and promote the success and try to get more people to check it out, now that they know it's sticking around. I wasn't going to watch at first, but I'm so glad I did!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Not only that, but they forgot what makes Sleepy Hollow fun: suddenly everything is super serious and the jokes are forced at best

    ReplyDelete
  89. Getting it to syndication would be good for the show, it can then have a few more seasons at least with syndication (hopefully).

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nothing to be worried about. The Following had the same sophomore slump - you could argue it was a bit worse - and still got renewed. Missing an early renewal doesn't mean cancellation. Unless Sleepy Hollow falls to 1.3s or below, it is safe

    ReplyDelete
  91. They are having problems because they are shitty writers/producers who chose to focus on the wrong things not because of the number of episodes. There were so many things they could've touched on such as the effects of purgatory on Abbie and Katrina, Irving and his family dealing with him being locked up first in jail and then the psych ward instead we got cfd, whiny villains, fan favorite charaters sidelined and misogynist writing.

    ReplyDelete
  92. With a 22 episode season, it would only need to survive through season 3 to secure a 5th and maybe even a 6th season

    ReplyDelete
  93. I like her as she is. I'm in an extreme minority on that, yes, but that's proof that not everyone can't stand her.
I think there's more they can do with her character, but I think the hate for her is beyond excessive and ridiculous sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yes you are in the extreme minority. I remember.

    ReplyDelete
  95. If the show wants to bring some of the humor back, I think there could be some great humor in seeing her mess with Abraham (I almost said "mess with Abraham's head" :p). I totally understand her sympathy for Henry, 'cause he's her son, and I think that conflict of feelings is an interesting thing to explore further, show the complexities of.
But I'd get a real kick out of seeing Abraham thinking things are going right between him and Katrina only to find out she meant absolutely none of it. It might also make him that much more dangerous a foe, too.
And Abbie and Jenny's tough natures are much more apparent-Katrina could be the opposite of that. Use her quiet, unassuming nature to lure people in, make them think she's trustworthy and good...and then bam, she lets loose.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yay for Brooklyn Nine Nine!

    ReplyDelete
  97. thanks you. Maybe you are right but we never know. I at least hope for no cliffhanger but I doubt so I'm still sad...

    ReplyDelete
  98. time for ABC to renew Agent of SHIELD........all DC show has been renewed beside Constantine

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yeessss. Empire hasn't even gotten to its 3rd episode and its already being renewed. I truly love that show.I really like the drama and the music. Its already one of my top 5 shows. And Gotham is slowly but surley getting better. Can't wait for both new episodes next week

    ReplyDelete
  100. Gotham's quality is fine. People just need to stop comparing it Nolan's masterful trilogy.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I have zero idea where you are getting misogynistic at but I don't disagree with the rest of this.

    ReplyDelete
  102. 100% agree. That is the #1 problem in a whole slew of problems. They forgot that their story is about a resurrected guy chasing a headless guy on zombie George Washington's orders. The only way something that absurd works is if everybody goes in acknowledging how absurd it is and having a whole lot of fun with it. The humor, the action, and the twists are what made this show. Now we have...um....er, yeah I've got nothing but soap opera relationships and emoangsting.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I like Katrina too. Count me in.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Gotham! I am enjoying the show though it is darker than what I normally watch. Glad to know so early that it will be returning!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yay for Gotham!

    ReplyDelete
  106. It will be, do not worry!

    ReplyDelete
  107. What did you think the demon pregnancy was or Katrina basically being a prize men competing for?

    ReplyDelete
  108. The demon pregnancy is a trope for most genre TV and it's not like having Ichabod pregnant would be anything but comedy in what they were taking very seriously. Katrina being part of a love triangle is annoying but not because of misogyny. It's annoying because love triangles are so overdone. I think you can make a case for a lot against Sleepy Hollow this season, but not for misogyny. It has some of the most kick butt women of TV and while the writing has been crummy this season, it has been universally crummy. It isn't a gender thing. Abbie Mills is still a good, nuanced and proactive character. Jenny is even better. A misogynistic TV show would not have done such a great job with these characters.

I think people throw out the word misogyny to mean any time they don't like how a female character is being written and thus it decreases the power of the word. So far I have heard that word used against dozens of shows and most of them do not apply at all. I hate the way they are using Katrina in this show as well. She's a great character that seems to be saddled with lame writing, but looking at how all women are portrayed in this series shows that misogyny is not the problem. There is no hatred of women here and the fact that Abbie saves Ichabod as much as Ichabod saves her is actually one of the best things about the show right now. It's one of the few things in balance.

    ReplyDelete
  109. So because a show has two good female characters then it can't have a misogynist writing? That has to be the most basic thinking and justification and is up there with I can't be racist because I have a black friend. And demon pregnancy being a genre trope doesn't mean it can't be misogynistic also.
