CBS Orders 3 Pilots - Rush Hour, Super Clyde and Joe Time

Following Minority Report‘s order by Fox, the other series remake of a blockbuster movie this season is getting a pilot green light. CBS has picked up Rush Hour, co-written and executive produced by Bill Lawrence. It was one of three pilot orders at the network, along with Greg Garcia’s single-camera comedy Super Clyde and Bill Wrubel’s multi-camera Joe Time.

Hour-long action comedy Rush Hour, which had a pilot production commitment, was written by Cougar Town co-creator Lawrence and the series’ executive producer/showrunner McCormick and executive produced by the New Line Cinema movies’ director Brett Ratner and producer Arthur Sarkissian. Staying close to the premise of the original movie, the show centers on a stoic, by-the-book Hong Kong police officer (played in the features by Jackie Chan) assigned to a case in Los Angeles, where he’s forced to work with a cocky black LAPD officer (originally played by Chris Tucker) who has no interest in a partner.

Super Clyde, from CBS TV Studios and Garcia’s Amigos de Garcia, is a remake of the pilot Garcia originally did at CBS in the 2013 cycle. That season, the first under his overall deal at CBS TV Studios, Garcia received two pilot orders from the network, one for Super Clyde and one for The Millers. The Millers, a multi-camera multi-generational sitcom, was a safer bet, while the single-camera, high-concept Super Clyde — about a meek, unassuming fast-food worker finds his calling, was considered more of a long shot.

Bill Wrubel’s Joe Time (formerly The Good Life), from WBTV, had a pilot production commitment. Written/executive produced by former Modern Family executive producer Wrubel in his first season after leaving the Emmy-winning ABC/20th TV series for an overall deal at WBTV, centers on Joe, a family man who struggles with the fact that everyone around him is pursuing their dreams and enjoying their lives more than he is.

  2. Super Clyde!! I'm so happy CBS is giving it a second chance but though the show has such a unique concept and the pilot was insanely great, I was really looking forward to the original mainly because of Rupert Grint. Such a shame he won't be returning but hopefully they'll find someone with the same charm as him.

  3. I'm guessing Rush Hour is going to be a procedural.

  4. I don't give Rush Hour much of a chance on CBS. Maybe if it was on FX with Rza in the lead role...

  5. Neither of these look promising

  6. the first Rush Hour was decent for a movie, but am not sure that the concept would work over a number of eps as it you can only do the "lost in translation/culture clash" schtick a few ways before it wears thin I would think... but you never know. I am curious about Super Clyde and wonder if Rupert Grint will be attached to it again... I recall seeing the pilot and remember thinking that it was just ok iirc

  7. I loved the pilot for Super Clyde. However, one of the main reasons I looked forward to that show was because of Rupert Grint so I do hope he returns for the second pilot :)

If not, I hope they cast another good actor in the role and do get picked up. The premise was quite fun.

  8. Pass.

With this lackluster crop maybe CSI: Cyber, The McCarthys, and Stalker have a shot at renewal afterall XD

  9. For maybe the first time ever, I'm actually looking forward to the CBS pilots! What world have I stepped into?!

  10. I really wanted them to pick up Syper Clyde back then but a big part of that was Rupert, not sure how I feel about them trying it again without him.

  11. It's been two years, so I doubt Grint will be returning.l

  12. All of these pilots sound too niche to be successful on CBS.

  13. I agree.

I was actually hoping another network would have picked up Super Clyde 2 years ago because it was a great pilot concept with a lot of talent involved.

The show would probably work out better on Fox than CBS, in my opinion.

  14. "Super Clyde"? Again? Why not. "Rush Hour"? Depends of the actors.

  15. I can't help but think that Joe Time's logline would have been better suited for a cable comedy.

  16. Nothing here for me!

  17. Hope Rupert Grint is still attached to be in Super Clyde, and that it actually gets picked up this time.

  18. I liked the 2013 pilot of Super Clyde, but I don't see Rupert Grint returning two years later.

  19. Huh. I thought Super Clyde was going to be picked up the first time around...

Really it shows that Hollywood is running out of original ideas.

  22. Yeah, the potential series is dead. They're doing another movie instead.

  23. Very important question: Does Super Clyde still have the same cast attached?

Personaly I feel there's some interesting prospects in these shows... we'll see I guess...

(BTW, fun info fact there has already been a Rush Hour knock off show, with Sammo Hung and Arsenio Hall, but I guess nobody remembers that... :P )
