Banshee - The Fire Trials - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers

9 Jan 2015

When Greg said “We drop in full throttle and see justice served Banshee style” back when I interviewed him last month, he wasn’t kidding. The Fire Trials kicks off smack-bang in the middle of some payback action. Emmett Yawners may be gone, but that doesn’t mean that his former colleagues have forgotten him. Nor are they in a forgiving mood when one of his murderers makes the foolish decision to come back to town after boasting of his exploits.

The sheriff and his deputies aren’t the only ones in Banshee with revenge on their minds though. Chayton Littlestone (Geno Segers) is back and he’s not a man to do things by half measures. Two of the people he will no doubt be coming for will be Kai and Rebecca. The former has a watertight alibi when it comes to the death of Alex Longshadow, having been in jail thanks to Hood’s attempt to bring him down on gun charges. Regrettably, this means that his niece is the obvious target to approach first. The question is how will she handle the news that he has her in his sights?

Once Chayton gets the tribe’s attention, and backing, he has no difficulty in pulling off step one in his plan for vengeance. I don’t want to spoil too much about the scene itself but it’s a pretty damn slick sequence of stunts with a reasonably high, and imaginative, body count in a short space of time. All accomplished without breaking a sweat. Makes you wonder what is next on his agenda, and realise how difficult it's going to be to stop him this season.

As for the Hopewell’s, things haven’t been running too smoothly for them in the month since we last saw them. Carrie feels as though she’s being pulled in two different directions. As a mum she has taken on some shifts at the local diner and is doing her best to keep her children’s home life stable. Yet she can’t complete forget her past. Part of her longs to be the free-spirited Ana, living on the wild side without commitments. I feel Deva could relate to that side of her mother this season, she’s been left feeling very confused after finding out who her father really is and so acts out in the only way she knows how. She’s not sure where she fits in, and unless the adults in her life sort things out between themselves I can’t see her ever getting a clearer picture either.

What they really need to distract themselves from all these problems is that one big, ever elusive, job they can pull off. So it’s a good thing one presents itself to Lucas while he’s out investigating the murder of four Marines from Camp Genoa. Even though it’s an extremely high risk heist Sugar doesn’t take much persuading, however Hood will have to entice one crucial member of the team back from New York. Luckily for them, things are about to go tits up in a spectacular manner for Job in the Big Apple - and luckily for us we get to see the whole mother fucking explosive mess play out in all its glory!

The Fire Trials airs Friday January 9 at 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT on Cinemax, below are some teasers to see you through until then. I will fill in any correct guesses on who said what later in the week if you want to leave any of your suggestions in the comments. Don’t forget to come back and vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

Congrats to VisitorQ who successfully guessed six of the quotes this week.

“When you have a guy like Hood leading the charge, well God’s gonna have to move a lot faster if he wants to keep up” Brock

“The way I see it, with a guy like you, I’ll get another shot”

“Do you really think you’re the right person to be lecturing me?”

“The register is also connected to the alarm, so you would have been better to take the whole thing and open it when you got clear”

“You try working with a mother fucking hand canon in your face” Job

“You’re fucking cops ok, arrest me!” Hondo

“I’ve come back cos I’d rather die fighting than die a slave in my own land” Chayton

“A little soon to be making daddy jokes don’t you think?” Deva

“Who you have become is exactly what he is afraid of”

“Burton’s interview style can be a little rigid at times, but he’s very precise” Kai

  1. Thanks! Been waiting for it! Sounds like we're up for a helluva great season.

"When you have a guy like Hood leading the charge, well God’s gonna have to move a lot faster if he wants to keep up" - Brock?

“You try working with a mother fucking hand canon in your face” - Job (or Fat Au)?

“You’re fucking cops ok, arrest me!” - Hondo?

“I’ve come back cos I’d rather die fighting than die a slave in my own land” - Chayton?

“A little soon to be making daddy jokes don’t you think?” - Deva?

“Who you have become is exactly what he is afraid of” - maybe Burton (to Rebecca)?

“Burton’s interview style can be a little rigid at times, but he’s very precise” - Kai?

PS. Will we get to know (in season premiere) what happened after last Rebecca and Kai scene in season 2? (you know what I mean;)

    Thanks again for this preview!

  6. You're welcome VisitorQ, you have 6 out of 7 right :o Well done :)

To be fair there isn't a huge amount of Rebecca & Kai in this one, they and Burton do have a few scenes but it's mainly about getting the rest of the characters in place for the season. They do feature a lot more heavily next week though after their scenes in this set up a few things for them.
