ABC FAMILY ADDS TO ITS EVER-GROWING SLATE OF ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING WITH A NEW SCRIPTED DRAMA “RECOVERY ROAD”

Burbank, CA (December 16, 2014) – ABC Family has picked up a new scripted drama to series “Recovery Road,” announced today by Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family. This announcement comes on the heels of the recently announced pick-up of the docu-series “My Transparent Life,” as the network continues to grow its impressive slate of original programming.

Based on the popular young adult novel by Blake Nelson, “Recovery Road” focuses on a teenage girl dealing with addiction. Maddie has a reputation as a party girl who doesn’t think she has a problem, until she’s confronted one day by her school guidance counselor and is forced to choose between expulsion and rehab. Maddie makes the difficult decision to live with other recovering addicts at a rehab facility while facing the daily pressures of her teenage life.

“ABC Family is best known for its ground-breaking original series and ‘Recovery Road’ is right in our wheel-house,” said Burke. “This series will explore relevant social issues for our audience and shine a light on addiction. It’s a powerful addition to our line up and the strong, authentic characters are sure to resonate with our audience.”

The pilot was written by Bert V. Royal (“Easy A”) and Karen DiConcetto (“Ruby & The Rockits”), who will also serve as executive producers, alongside Craig Piligian (“Abducted: The Carlina White Story”) and Beth Miller (“Revenge of the Bridesmaids”) from Pilgrim Studios and Danielle VonZerneck (“Left to Die”).

Cast to be announced at a later date.

Part of the Disney/ABC Television Group, ABC Family is distributed in over 97 million homes. ABC Family features programming reflecting today’s families, entertaining and connecting with adults through relatable programming about today’s relationships – told with a mix of diversity, passion, humor and heart. ABC Family’s programming is a combination of network-defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. For 2014, ABC Family has launched the “WATCH ABC Family” authenticated service which allows viewers with participating TV subscription services access to 24/7 live viewing of the network, as well as continued on demand access to such popular series at home and on the go via a wide array of devices. ABC Family is also the destination for annual Holiday events with “13 Nights of Halloween” and “25 Days of Christmas.” ABC Family. A New Kind of Family.

  1. Cast to be announced at a later date.
Didn't they already cast everyone? Or are the recasting?

  2. They filmed a pilot. THR has more details but they dont seem to know if the entire cast is being recast or only part of the cast. I read the book and it is very good. It would be a shame if Samantha Logan is recast as the lead, though I am not that familiar with Logan as an actress, but it was cool to see ABC Family cast the role colorblind because I dont recall if the book ever mentions the race of the lead character.

  5. Sounds cool, but since it's on ABC Family it'll probably be cancelled after one season while ending on a cliffhanger.
