Another key Little Mermaid character is heading to ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Ernie Hudson has been cast as King Poseidon in episode 15 of the fairytale drama’s current fourth season. In a twist, in addition to being the the powerful deity of legend, in the Once Upon a Time world, we will also discover that Poseidon is the father of the villainous Ursula, played by Merrin Dungey. The two will be joined by JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who will be reprising her role as Ariel.

ReplyDeleteMy guess was right and wrong about the king. I said Triton but the pic saying Ernie is playing Poseidon but the pic is Triton. I believe Poseidon is either Triton father or grandfather.. which would mean Ariel and Ursula are related.. or maybe they are not and Ariel might not even b a princess. .

(Season 1, Ep 13 "What Happened to Frederick") Because she died, the lake dried up and there wasn't enough water to both cure Snow of the infertility potion King George tricked her into drinking *and* save the life of Charming's mother Ruth, so Ruth sacrificed herself by sneaking the water into the cup Snow drank from at her informal wedding ceremony with Charming. (Season 2, Ep 3 "Lady of the Lake")

After his brother died of the poison and Hook turned pirate, he burned the sail so that no one could go to Neverland again - this was before he lost Milah and decided to go there by magic bean so that he could live long enough to get revenge on Rumpelstiltskin. She was referred to as a goddess in "Ariel".

ReplyDeleteIn the stage musical adaptation of the movie they reused this storyline, however they changed the reason Ursula was exiled in different productions. In the Broadway version it was because Poseidn had divided the sea between Triton and Ursula. Ursula then misused her power ao Triton took over her part of the sea.
In the Dutch/European version Triton and Ursula had 6 older sisters. Poseidon always favoured his elder daughters so to catch his attention Ursula secretly murdered all her older sisters. However, after she did that Poseidon still didn't give her enough attention, so she also murdered him and became queen. Triton figured out she killed everyone so he took the throne and exiled her. It is revealed that as revenge Ursula then killer his wife (Ariel's mother).
