The Fall - Episode 2.04 - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers

Not only has Stella got to live with the knowledge that Spector has violated her personal thoughts by reading her diary and computer, but now she has to hand these objects over as evidence. I can’t imagine having a journal that contains my innermost desires and dreams being passed on to my work colleagues. Let alone knowing that one day that this may also end up in court to be used against the man you are trying to take down. Nevertheless, it has to be done, and this being Stella it will undoubtedly only led her to be more determined in her search for Spector.

We didn’t see Rose last week, only heard a recording Paul made of her saying that she felt sorry for him as he must have had a terrible childhood in order to do the things he was doing to her. Whatever he is putting her through is left to our imagination at this point, as if holding her against her will isn’t enough. Yet that scene tells us that he does see her as special in some way, and he derives pleasure from her feeling empathy towards him.

Similarly, the counselling session with Annie Brawley also gave me the impression that he got more from it than simply being a case of seeing what she knew and misguiding her away from remembering. He was getting to know her, and gained a certain amount of enjoyment at being the person who could make a difference in her life. The same went for Liz Tyler, there’s no denying that he got a kick out of being the one who she could open up to.

Being an intelligent man should have taught him a lesson after how things went with Liz, but it seems like he can’t help himself. One visit to Annie’s hospital room was risky enough, the second is a step too far however and the Belfast police finally get the surveillance team in place. Now they are able to follow his every move, knowing where he is at any given moment, and they also have the information on the car that he stole. Surely it’s only a matter of time before his lair is uncovered and Rose is found? Or at least you would think so, but not everything goes quite as smoothly and to plan as they would like.

I know many are looking forward to seeing Colin Morgan make his first appearance in this episode as DC Tom Anderson. I thought I’d include this BBC Northern Ireland interview as an introduction to his character.

As we’ve seen in the promotional shots, he is involved with the investigation of a body that matches Rose’s description that has been found in the woods. He doesn’t have a great deal of screen time this week, but he does leave an impression on someone. I’m looking forward to seeing how his character develops over the next couple of episodes. Bronagh Taggart and Emmett Scanlan are also quite prominent again this week as McNally and Martin continue to question the people in Spector’s life, including Jimmy Tyler and his estranged wife Liz. Then there’s Katie, I am enjoying the relationship that she and Paul have, it’s compelling to watch. He kicks the head games up a notch or two with her this week. Its riveting stuff, and if I’m honest, I’m a bit scared at where it’s going to go next!

Episode 2.04 airs on BBC Two and BBC Two HD on Thursday 4th December at 9pm. Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

“Doesn’t she have some say in the matter, she’s not a possession?”

“Rigor mortis has passed, properly more than 36 hours since she died”

“God Paul, why is your phone always off? I need to speak to ya”

“Why, did he go home to his wife?”

“A body has been found. A female”

“Something her therapist organised for Annie”

“My diary is private, it is not intended for publication”

“Did he put pressure on you to make that call?”

“Oh forget your private embarrassment for a minute, you were talking about Father whatever he calls himself”

“Target is ascending now, repeat ascending now”

  3. Thanks for including that interview. He is so enthusiastic about each of his roles and so far I had the impression that he will be nothing like kind, compassionate Merlin!

I do feel for Stella: “My diary is private, it is not intended for publication” that must be truly awful. It would be horrifying for anyone, but if you have issues you are dealing with that nobody should know - it must be hellish! I assume that this is exactly what Paul intended!

Not sure whether this is more disturbing or his relationship with Katie. After what you said it sounds like she is getting herself deeper involved with Paul. I wonder whether what he is planning to do with her.

  4. He is a phenomenally good actor, I am glad that he is doing so well for himself and his talent is being recognised. He couldn't have gained higher praise for Mojo for example, and he seems to be well on his way to being able to pick his jobs now. I think he will do well for himself, and he fully deserves it imo. He's very gracious and earnest about it all too.

Yes, poor Stella, her face at the end of the last episode said it all really. Paul knows how to get inside people's heads alright! There's still been no murder up to that point, yet he's still just as invasive and manipulative.

  5. If this series doesn't end with Spector abducting Stella I'll be surprised!

  6. I think that would be too much, I don't think Paul will ever be discovered until the very end of the show, and also think he will end up dead, not in prison.

  7. All agreed on Colin! :) Loved him in Mojo and I would love to see Testament of Youth, but I doubt it will get to cinemas outside Britain. Maybe one day there will be a DVD!

I fully expected another murder in episode 2 or 3 and was "pleasantly" surprised. Looks like episode 4 will not be that kind!

  8. You know I can't reveal anything there, which is why I have to word things the way I did :( ;)

  9. I have the feeling he is trying to get her thinking he isn't the killer perhaps, or some other head game. I'm not sure.

  10. Hi Sandi. Can you tell us what you thought on Colin Morgan's acting in this episode? I can't wait to watch him in something new and in another kind of character! You know he is my favorite actor, right? ;) Thank you.

  11. He's always great to watch acting imo, I'm a big fan too! There isn't a huge amount to go on in this episode, I have a few things I want to say but am unable to due to embargoes unfortunately :( But he I can say that he is great, it's lovely to hear his Irish accent for a change, and I think we will get to know more about his character in the coming episodes more so than this one really.

  12. Ok! Thank you for taking the time to answer with so many details. You're lovely. I'm so looking forward to Colin's storyline then! It will be a pleasure to watch him again on my TV screen. Thanks again.

  13. You're quite welcome, I'm just sorry that I am unable to give away as many teasers that I normally do with the shows I cover. Understandably this show has the kind of format which relies on not revealing too much :)

  14. I totally understand your position. However you manage to tell a lot without giving out so much. That's very clever!

  15. I can see a hannibal/starling relationship building personally, I'm sure they said there were plans for the series to go on for a few more year so it's possible, or maybe I'm just twisted lol.

  16. I watched episode 4 and even if I know Colin Morgan is so gorgeous and one of the hottest men alive, I got surprised and found myself breathless when I saw how GORGEOUS he is on screen! He is amazing! His eyes and face say so much! He is absolutely so fascinating!
